'morning all, back to normal but not allowed to drive or make financial decisions for a few more hours, after effects of the sedation it seems, note to self, do not buy a car today:D
The camera showed all clear, one less thing to think about at least:j
One choc ice was taken on return from hospital last night, found that worked fine, so I nuked LO beef stew & LO runners, then it was full pelt into YS crumpets & jam:o
I slept very well, must have been the cooler night & sedation still in my blood, up a bit later to a hot day due
Breakfast pot of tea, porridge, banana & honey
Made 1L of yoghurt, now incubating
Watered the pots out the front, more toms now ripening but I've still not picked the red currants, may get on to that this afternoon
Lunch is going to be cheddar & salady sarnie
YS cheese & onion quiches out & defrosting for dinnerEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Not eaten yet today ... I've been really fancying a choc ice for the last few days though - can't think why!!
Just dealing with some flying ants I've just spotted by my (fully open) door, so getting rid of them so I can keep the door open ... not sure how many there are ... but I need to kill them (individually) before they take flight and pop in to see what I'm up to indoors.
Food to eat today ... no idea... but as I've got hash browns, eggs, beans and sausages, that seems highly likely at some point.
EDIT: Ants... ah ... followed the loose trail, only to discover their numbers are increasing, the area they cover is quite large... I could be gone some time0 -
PN if it's 'flying ant day' it could be an all day job :rotfl:Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0

Glad all went well Farway:D0

Farway - glad it's over.
PN - I've had 2 "flying ant" days since moving here. I've learnt one needs to "get on the case" instantly if they're getting in and a hoover hosepipe is one way to deal with it (ie hoover them up). Hopefully - once hoovered up = dead.
I think I've been so busy stomping all over ants when I spotted them on the ground outside for the last few days and throwing cornmeal around to tempt them out of hiding that, hopefully, there won't be many due left to surface now. The Nippon gel has just turned up - so will have to lay trails of that now.0 -
Had a 40gram bowl of honey nut cornflakes. It's quite muggy here, so CBA to get anything more strenuous.
Gave up with the ants... decided, with a shrug, "oh well, they'll fly off soon enough" and left them to it... did about 7 full kettles of water before deciding it was too hot to bother0 -
PN, Round here the clue for "flying ant day" is the gulls start circling like vultures, I think you are near the coast, or are your gulls so stuffed with pasties & chips they will not stoop to eating flying ants?:D
Too hot to sort out the red currants, job for another day, again.
Dinner decided, it is the now defrosted cheese & onion quiche, with salad, and now I've enough I'll using my own tomatoes,.
I've got three different colours, quite cheffy, may even go & fight the cabbage butterflies for some nasturtium flowers & leaves
A choc ice may follow some crumpets later:oEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
That sounds like my useful fact for the day - ie gulls circling like vultures = Flying Ant day.
I read something recently about they like eating them/seems to recall they get a bit "drunk" on them?
We have seagulls round here (darn it) - so shall now be keeping a weathereye on them.
Right - better think about what to have for dinner. Well I had thought - but decided I feel too hungry to wait as long as the recipe indicated. Probably courtesy of trying out more of an "idea" than a recipe for lunch today - couple of ripe bananas, ice, plant mylk and flavourings all blitzed together. So that made 1.5 pints drunk down - but stomach now feeling empty again.0 -
I have almost given up on my allotment, ever since I started to dismantle the structures and then the very hot weather came. I no longer feel inclined to weed, far too hot and am cerainly not putting new weed fabric over dormant empty beds, although I will put my older fabric on some. To my surprise the cabbages are doing very well, standing strong and upright. All I am watering from time to time, are the plants that will be coming with me. I never thought I could release my allotment but it is actually easier to do that then break free from my house
I made 2 litres of juice today, mainly cucs and added beetroot, lemons, apples carrots and mint. It tastes fine and I have put one portion away for tomorrow and frozen three. Lettuces are bolting and green chard has been attacked by something akin to flea beetle. I have plenty of beans and courgettes and cabbages, that will do all through summer. I have left the ben sarek blackcurrants, too hot to pick and the raspberries have stopped in their tracks
Food tomorrow, hard boiled egg to start with something or other, assorted veg with a piece of pan fried fish. I just cba re food right now and thank goodness I made plenty of rolls because there is always a roll with cheese. EA is coming early afternoon, so will not be cooking fish until after she has gone0 -
Good evening everyone,
Sounds as though you have enough going on kittie without worrying about managing your allotment. Would any of the other holders be interessted in using your empty beds temporarily or is it worth sowing a "green manure" crop that who takes it over could benefit from?:)
I've never heard of gulls circling as an indicator of flying ants. I've not seen a horde of flying ants since I was a wee girl and hope it stays that way;).
Trip to see the nurse went well, my meds are doing what they should be at the moment thankfully:D. The premises at the new practice are really cramped re waiting area/reception but it was quiet when I went so it was fine and I could get a seat. Everyone was friendly/helpful so no complaints but I can't see how they'll cope with the 1000s of new patients transferred to them when the winter "busy" season kicks in. I'll worry about that as when I need to!
Really cba cooking tonight so it's going to be a bung it in the oven and leave it to it job- I think oven chips may well feature:)
ETA - I have an almost ripe tomato and one not far behind. "Stupice" variety so a decent size- can't wait until it's ripe enough to pick:D:D0
