Hey - Pastures - this has gotta be a first:rotfl:. We've agreed on something food-wise:rotfl:

I've been trying to nudge you in the right direction ... you're still in pie & chips denial :)

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Errrr....well....there may be pies around made with wholemeal organic pastry with ingredients of my choice (has distinct suspicions there are in fact these days:cool:).

I have been known to eat chips. I've done the Slimming World diet a couple of times (which did work - but then Life went a bit :( on me for a while and hence about 2 stones went back on again - temporarily I'm telling it..). So - I realised potatoes are "free food" on it (as they only use the teeniest leetle bit of spray oil) and did sometimes do them (cut spuds in large type chips/boil for few minutes/put on baking sheet with teeny bit of spray oil and bake). My definition of a portion size of that (with it being "free food") was to do double the normal chip-size portion. Then there wasn't so much of the plate left to fill with food that "counted" iyswim. That tended to be things like baked beans/grilled tomatoes/eggs (not fried).

Very different definition of "a diet" working its way onto the scene gradually now (only one packet of the Cheese Mountain left now - so not much cheese I have to "exercise willpower and resist"). The previous diets were basically the first one being down to "that bl**dy job" I used to have/was having to hold onto. Then weight went on rather for first couple of years with the combination of house renovation (now done) and nfh (now behaving themselves finally after much "standing up for myself"/finding out about relevant laws - thankfully). Hopefully nothing else will come along to disrupt eating from here on in...

One thing that "sold" latest cookbook en route to me was I spotted comments in his recipes about "you can omit the oil and use water instead - eg to saute x/y/z" - so they should all be readily adaptable. Plus they look eminently suitable to feed any meat-eaters - and they might not even realise the meal didnt contain meat until afterwards....

I too have gross memories of canned sardines but pilchards in tomato sauce were far worse. Shudder.

I thought fresh sardines might cure the horror, but I didn't much like them either.

I love puttanesca, although haven't tried it with sardines I am however partial to the tinned ones on toast or the fresh ones grilled/fried with new potatoes on the side. Mother used to love cod roe but was the only one in the house who would eat it, I tried it once but didn't like the texture, yuk, yuk, yuk.

I'm going stir-crazy here, haven't been out much as the temps barely reached 2c for the past couple of days. I nipped out to L!dl yesterday and there was a very annoying rattle in the car and I found a half empty small bottle of water that had froze

Last nights piri piri fish was very tasty the spices brightened up a boring bit of frozen pollock, had last of the oven chips with it.

I'm just about to have brunch, instead of bacon I'll dry fry some parma ham have it in a sandwich topped with a fried egg :D and tonight its the last piece of chicken plate pie from the freezer, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts.

  • Hello all

Thank you Caronc, Wort and Buckslady for your kind words. We are all relieved about mum. She does have various health issues, and I have promised to help go through these with her and GP/consultants, one by one with her deciding which is the next one she wants to tackle. My parents have helped me so much since OH has gone, and I want to ensure they both have the best quality of life each, that they can enjoy. Don't know how long I still have to enjoy them, after all, and want to give them they help and support they've selflessly given me.

On the food front, I may have accidentally eaten a large bag of crinkle crisps and a piece of chocolate.....

    Sp far:
    Porridge with banana
Veg burgers (mushroom and spinach) with jacket spud, side salad.
    Soup for tea. Diet yogurt.

Snow is, well, snowing down and has been all morning. Want to just cuddle myself up and hibernate here. Although the dog will poke me until I take her out later.

Shudders at sardines. A bit stinky and slimey, although the dog loves them as a treat!

My name is Farway and I'm a tinned sardine and pilchards lover:o

More rain this morning, another day indoors but plenty to get on with or needing to be done. I do not include cupboard tidying in this objective, my heirs can sort them out

Breakfast was HM yoghurt with honey

Lunch will be PB Baguette, with a couple of slices of the YS ham, maybe salady bits or just mustard, not sure until the time comes

Dinner, has to be the last slices of YS ham, was going to be with baked spud but spud has gone manky so the better bits of it will be chips instead:(
Probably with eggs now instead of a smear of salad

    Thanks Farway, I needed a chuckle! :D

Like your phrase "a smear of salad" - I am assuming it's a garnish, and not because it's mouldered away to mush.... :rotfl:

I will go one better, my name is Irene and I like marmite Shhhhh!

Farway, I'm sure there is a support group out there somewhere with a 10 step programme to mend your taste buds.

But, yum, puttanesca, I'll add that to this week's list of possible meals. With anchovies though :)

From the freezer earlier I removed a portion of nut roast (that I made for Xmas) and a WHOLE takeaway carton of mashed swede (because I was too stupid to freeze it in smaller portions)....

The fridge has some mashed spuds I made 3-4 days ago that need using up.

I have fresh carrots I bought in the week.

So lunch will be: nut roast, mash, swede, carrots .... might toss some peas onto the plate and do some gravy. Maybe stuffing, see how I feel when I'm actually reheating that lot.
