Discovered I still had the tin of corned beef I mentioned way back
I've always loved corned beef, cooked/hot or cold in sandwiches/salads - it used to be cheap. These days it's more of a luxury item!
Tinned budget varieties cost ~£4.40/Kg (£4/Kg at Lidl) - so it's possible to buy "proper solid meat" cheaper!
I nearly bought some the other day, in Mr T's there was a tiny bag of "bits" from the deli marked as half price and tossed into the reduced section, but for the tiny volume it felt like the price didn't stack up as a reasonable/worthwhile buy!
Mr T's Deli stuff and sliced/packs work out at £8-16/Kg!!!0 -

Hope you enjoyed your day just for you, Kittie, and :bdaycake:
Happy 70th!
Hmm. I had a very CFO moment this evening, when I took a package of cooked turkey pieces in a clear zip-lock bag out of the freezer, and then after defrosting, had the joys of bacon curry for the first time.
I could have sworn it was brown leg meat, not cooked bacon...
Luckily, dopiaza is an onion and tomato based curry, and that went quite well with the bacon, which was something I'd precooked when it hit its UBD, with the intention of finely chopping it for Estonian pirukad, at some stage. The sauce was Aldi's tall jar one, with the spices on top.
We have snow here in South-West Durham, which has kept me at home, as four inches is too deep for me to cycle in, and too dangerous for me to try and walk in, with my sticks.
This is the first time snow has kept me from going out, recent mild winters have meant it hasn't been around long enough. Thankfully, I stocked up last week, and a good friend diverted to Aldi on her way to visit with a couple of items that I wanted and needed.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Couldn't help but laugh but I think most of us have has the dreaded freezer guess/UFO moment. Glad you are managing ok in the snow and a friend could help out with supplies:)0 -
Farway - people keep referring to this/that/the other film on Netflix (though this may be because some of the Facebook groups I belong to are U.S. based and it's more part of the "culture" than here...).
Talk me through it. What's the Basics For Idiots version on how-to and how-much?0 -
Seeded toast with marg for breakfast.
I'm still not sure about going out later, the weather is wet and chilly.
I think I will just have a yoghurt and some fruit before my brother gets here. I have lots of washing and vacuuming to do before then!0 -
Good morning everyone,
Good news about the house MrAJPI:D, less good about the tree though at least nobody was injured!
It's much brighter and calmer here this morning so hopefully my son will have an ok drive up the road.
I'm not CFO tonight and I'm not sure what we'll have for dinner I'll see what the "boy" fancies:), rib roast is out of the freezer for tomorrow though and I'll prep mash & cauli cheese later so they are out of the way;)0 -

I went in because of my children have it, both over 40 BTW
I needed a thingy to plug into back of TV, if you already have web connected TV it is not needed, or you could watch it on a laptop for instance, but I think watching a film on a laptop would be eye squinting in the end
My plug in thingy is a Roku, my son had one spare, gadget mad in his house, but I guess others are suitable. DS came over and set it up, but really any of today's 12 year old could do it. Just needs your Wi Fi password entering, no doubt You tube has it somewhere

Once in and working you can test it by viewing say Iplayer stuff, or You tube etc
Then sign up to Netflix, there is a free one month trial, but needs CC number first. I opted for the basic one screen, non HD version £5.99 a month, on the assumption I can always upgrade or cancel if not suitable. It was fine
My reason for joining was the carp on TV, and a wider choice. There are options to pay for films, but unless you must see the latest films there is no need
So far I've watched The Crown and liked it, and am about to boldly go into new Star trek series, with today's manky weather I will be battling Klingons at warp 9 this afternoon:)
Breakfast was HM yoghurt with honey
Lunch will be a part baked baguette, with BF ham & salad filling, the PB baguettes are near use by date
Dinner, change of meal plan, the YS mac cheese is on use by today so that is dinnerEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I think I will go out later to a new (to me) place around here. It says on the website that it has veggie/vegan options, if not I can just have a beer and then eat at home afterwards.
