Chilli's on... well, some of it is, some ingredients still need to be bought, but the beauty of the SC is that you can add those later :)

I opened the pack of mince, ran a knife through it (cuts it into about 16-20 pieces) then tipped it upside down into the bowl) ... opened/drained the beans and tipped those in ... and opened/emptied a gifted cheapo jar of chilli sauce. Lid on and away.

I'll pop out later to get onions/carrots and I'll nuke those then add them in. Nuking lets them "catch up" so to speak :)
  • Morning All,

Caronc sorry to hear the January blues and Meniere's are affecting you at the moment, me I had a PJ day yesterday :o, very unlike me but it was freezing out and I just thought I am not going out there so vegged out in front of the telly. Downside I didn't speak to a soul all day.

Karcher hope you are starting to feel better and yes I would go for hot and spicy too.

Meg fingers crossed your greenhouse can be repaired, I have a very old small garden shed that I no longer use because the felt started leaking and about a quarter of the roof has caved in, I keep hoping the wind will blow it down - not happened yet 3 years on, boy did they built them to last in those days :D

Food-wise yesterday I had a hankering for cereal so had some bran flakes and prunes for breakfast, a lovely refreshing ham and pineapple salad for lunch.

I'm still experimenting with celeriac and tried out a Nigel $later recipe (tossed in lemon, butter, herbs, seasoned and baked) I had it with turkey and quinoa loaf and steamed cabbage on the side, the verdict = absolutely delicious. Although I didn't like celeriac mash having it in a remoulade and baked are definitely ways I will do again and maybe also try a soup next time.

Best go and get breakfast organised I'm thinking boiled egg and oatcake today

Just doing my tax return 2016-2017. Figures were done some months back, but I like to "sit on it" as I fear the submitting bit in case I suddenly wake up at 3am thinking "OMG ... I forgot about ...."

    :)

I've pulled out two cheese topped rolls to defrost, to go with my chilli. I also found some sweetcorn in a freezer bag so tossed that into the chilli to get rid of it. I do really "need" onions/carrots for the chilli .... but CBA so might go without.

    Good morning everyone,
Another damp raw day here, the wind is whistling though it's dry. I suspect the bin maybe be as far as I go today.
N2bt - the celeriac dish sounds tasty. I generally find Nigel Slater's recipes spot on for taste:)
PN- I'm sure the chilli will be just fine without the extras if you cba going to the shop;)

I'm not sure what my plans are for today, might be wildly adventurous and tidy my larder cupboard out as my inventory for it isn't up to date:o and I can mainly sit down to that which is a plus at the moment:).

I had planned to make cullen skink tonight but have put that on hold as my son isn't now coming until tomorrow. I'll have a rake through the fridge/freezer and see what takes my fancy:)
  • Cereal with almond milk and a yoghurt for breakfast.

  • The tax return doesn`t half niggle. I listen a lot to LBC and they have a current ad, it is a duck squawking tax tax tax. I had to pay tax this month so I did it, did the transfer, early I know but I am paranoid about forgetting. I still haven`t given up the accountant that we needed when dh was self-employed. He has been brilliant but it costs me. Another two years and I may well give him up as by then my tax affairs will be straightforward

Birthday today, 70  but I keep telling myself I am just a day older than yesterday. Going out tomorrow with dd and her family, on my own today but its fine. The weather is carp and cold so I am happy to stay in and do quiet things

I took the fillet steak out of the freezer last night, so guess what I am having at lunchtime? I expect I will still be full by early evening so may just have a bit of soup or nothing

Oh btw, I did the oatcake and peanut butter experiment last night, have been waking every single day in the early hours. I decided it could be a slump in blood sugar. Ate them at 8.45, not too worried about nightime heartburn as I am now sleeping on a slope of 3 pillows, very effective too wrt heartburn. Miracle, I slept all through, so now I know, I need to eat some low sugar food late. Not biscuits or bread or cake at all for last meal. I think I need to turn my meals around, starting from sunday. All carbs to be eaten by 2 and light protein and light veg for last meal plus old fashioned supper but has to be oatcakes and nut butter for me

need2be, I am loving celeriac, jamie oliver (online) also has a lovely easy recipe. Celeriac and unsweet early parsnips are much better for me than potatoes. I don`t have spuds in the house and avoid them if I eat out. Its all about available sugars etc. I too love nigel slater`s recipes and I love his style of writing

    Happy 70th Birthday kittie :bdaycake:

I had just started emptying the tin shelf when my Dad arrived for a quick pop by as he was out on his scooter. He spotted a tin of kidney beans (that I was actually going to ditch as they were a) out of date and b) I don't like them hence them not being used;)) and asked if he could have them as he fancied making chilli. Consequently he's headed off with those and a portion of the ragu I made so just some chilli to add and he has the basis of a couple of meals without the effort. Win-win all round :rotfl:
