    Good afternoon everyone,
When my old TV died a couple of years ago I was persuaded by my offspring to buy a 42inch which I thought might dominate my living room (it's not a big room). It doesn't, in fact seems like a smaller presence than the old one, I think because the new one is so flat and streamlined whereas my old one was boxy and bulky. I really like it though wouldn't want anything much bigger.

Son arrived safely after driving through quite a bit of snow and is cooking chicken wings for dinner tonight. Lunch was toast with cheese and tomato followed by some fruit.

ETA - glad your Mum is ok Irenadler
  • Well - only 6 tv's to choose from at Argos, for instance, in 43" size - as the other choices in that size are "smart" tv's (so I wouldnt have them - similar reasons to refusing to upgrade my mobile phone from a very basic level one indeed):rotfl:

I'll think on caron on that one....

Right - time to think about dinner. Have got that (non GM) soya mince out of the larder and thinking maybe a sauce of some of that/some canned tomatoes/onion/garlic/every flavouring I can think of/spinach chucked in & wilted down with it. Hmmm....maybe some spicy potato wedges with it....

I had two hot sausage rolls about 3.15pm.

Then I said my final goodbyes to Mr Chocolate Santa.

EDIT: Later on I had 2 digestive biscuits and a focacchia/flatbread thing from L1dl I'd bought over Xmas and frozen (mainly because it had a 30% off sticker on it -AND- "it was Xmas" so I deserved a treat of some overspends). Sold in packs of two they're the size of a large pitta bread. It was nice enough, but in no way worth the full price (I think two are about £1.35 normally).

Does that sound like a set-up that could work for me? - and I could just pay Mr Computer to come and "sort me out" connecting up "whatever-it-is" and then I just get a monthly (reasonable level) direct debit for the cost?

Given your set up using the large TV screen already, you can go directly to Netflix on the PC & sign up https://www.netflix.com/gb/ and then binge watch with screen swiveled round

My TV is 22" I think, may be 24, I think large would be better for subtitles, my son reckons I need a larger TV but I think it would dominate the room. He being gadget man has a TV projector thing with surround sound and shows films projected onto his wall, smart ar5e:D

Reminds me of my mum, she insisted on sticking with her 12" B & W TV long after everyone was colour, her eyesight was poor so maybe it was a flickering wireless to her?

Food, the YS mac & cheese was fine, OK for YS of £1.25, a rip off at normal £1.79. I'd buy again YS

Irenadler -pleased your mum's ok. She must be relieved.

I had a ginormous jacket potato for tea with half a small tin of beans, and cheese. I feel absolutely stuffed and I ate it an hour and a half ago!!!

personally, I don`t see the attraction with netflix, I have amazon prime, would have it anyway and a fire stick. Paid for once a year and that is it, however I don`t sit glued to tv and much prefer audible while knitting at the same time, two birds with one stone whilst also stash busting and making nice things

Thnk you so much for birthday wishes, I am very happy to say that yesterday came and went and now I am back in `one day at a time` mode, however food was richer than normal, although I restrained myself when out. Back to normal today, including some exercise if there is any half decent weather, still black out so I have no idea

Good breakfast so a good start: mixed berries, amaranth, spelt, hemp, walnuts
lunch must be something with fish, I shall have to try and find a sardine recipe as I have lots of tins. I have enough veg for a decent assortment
last meal will be soup, made it on friday evening and was nice, quite thick, the usual hearty type ie carrot, tomato, lentil. The tomato gives it a nice tang

They give me nightmares. Mum used to have a big stock of tinned fish under the stairs... she'd stand in the kitchen and put margarine on two bits of white bread, then open a tin and "pick" out all the backbone etc... then the fish would be put onto the bread and "mashed down" with the knife. Sardine sandwich .... gross. Whole bits of fish with skin in a tomato sauce.

I've no idea what it actually TASTES like - the fish/skin and that backbone just didn't look nice.

Cod roe was another one... ewwwwwwww.

Tried both - and ...yep...personally I think they're both gross. I have tried sardine sandwiches - in my case with "buttery" spread (not margarine) and with different bread and I think it's pretty horrible personally.

Hey - Pastures - this has gotta be a first:rotfl:. We've agreed on something food-wise:rotfl:

Errrm.....:oand I've just bought yet another cookbook:o. This time it's "Vegan 100" by Gaz Oakley (aka the Avant Garde Vegan). Awaiting that now.

    Good morning everyone,
I love tinned sardines & pilchards etc. but less keen on cod roe unless it's in tarmsalata. In my teens I had a Saturday job in a fishmongers, the roe used to be stored raw in a tub with salt water and seaweed to keep it fresh. Even with gloves, fishing them out made me squirm......_pale_
Not CFO today as catering for my sister's birthday (though my son will do most of the actual cooking!). "Proper" roast dinner of rib of beef and all the trimmings followed by lemon tart, raspberries and cream. We won't be eating until later this evening as my nephew is working so I suspect a "roll and slice" will be getting munched at lunchtime.:D
