Suddenly much warmer here but was overcast to start with and the house stayed cool, opened the door at lunchtime and was hit by a wave of heat! Warm again tomorrow then back down to low 20s again, phew. Was nice to get out for a walk this evening though.

Made vinegary harissa and tomato orzo salad at lunchtime. Said it served 2 but I've popped a portion in a lunchbox for tomorrow and still got another serving. Good hot weather food! Prawn, chorizo and rustic bread skewers on the bbq tonight, with a green salad in a lemon and basil dressing 😋

Brambling

A slow morning for me for some reason I couldn't sleep and was still awake at 4am, unfortunately his lordship still wanted his breakfast at his usual time.

Like JKS I didn't realise how hot it was until I went out after lunch, the car was very hot too! I popped out to get a prescription.

Fruit and Yogurt for lunch. Microwave Salmon and asparagus risotto for dinner with a parsley chimichurri type sauce

Up early again, and out picking blackberries after a spot of watering, and topping up the bird bath. I found I have two runner beans, that's a glut for now! probably use them at the weekend. Loads of flowers so if they ever set it will be a glut

Must be fresh Tuna time here, I'm going to try one for dinner, nothing as elaborate as Caron's , just pan fried fried and trying to avoid it getting tough. Defrosting at the moment

Good morning everyone,

Weather forecast looks like a rinse and repeat of yesterday's torrential showers with the odd sunny interval. I need to do a bin run and water the greenhouse but hopefully can avoid getting soaked.

Didn't get the big freezer refilled yesterday as it was early evening by the time it was up to temperature so a job for today while DS2 assembles our new cupboards. The extra storage should make a huge difference. Once the freezer is sorted out I'll get another chunk of the outstanding admin tackled. Ham hock 1 has been in the slow cooker overnight and despite it having been in the freezer for longer than I want to admit too seems to have cooked well. I'll cook the second one tonight and hopefully it will be fine too.

East Asian flavours would seem to be the way to go with fresh tuna for me and DS2 really enjoyed it too so I'[l make the effort to have it more often. I think the miso based marinade went a long way to tenderising the flesh as it was beautifully tender. There's LO noodle salad which I'll pimp up with more veg and some boiled egg for lunch.

While out and about yesterday DS2 popped by M&S and picked up chicken sausages x2, corn and potatoes from this deal Summer Grill Dine In | M&S Food . The sausages are huge for 121kcal each but I'm not sure I'd want to pay £6 per pack the overall offer is good value. We'll have this meal for dinner with salad and HM coleslaw and I'll freeze the spare sausages.

Very warm day and a very warm office! Good day though, just haven't done much since I got home!

Portion of the harissa tomato and chickpea orzo with mozzarella for lunch. Burger on the bbq tonight with a few new potatoes, salad and a sort of slaw to use up some white cabbage.

Now officially into drought here, and sun is out on cue.

Last night's tuna steak was in the OK, but nothing to rave over, category. I have one more in the freezer and I'm unlikely to get more unless some super offer. Years of rationing and 1950s school dinners mean tinned tuna tastes fine, and I'd prefer a pork chop anyway. 😁

Lunch, cheese toasty keeps tempting, so may go for that

Good morning everyone,

Better day so far today though the forecast isn't promising. The new cupboards are built and semi filled, my what a difference! DS2's next project is to add some additional track lighting to the conservatory area as it's very dim. Fine at this time of year but less so in the darker evenings. Ham hock 2 has been slow cooking overnight hopefully it's good too. The meat from the first one has been shredded and vac packed for soup. Assuming all is okay with this one I'll do the same before combining and reducing the stock. Freezer sorting out is ongoing, I'm determined to get the inventory system I used back in place, it worked well before DS2 moved back but fell by the wayside during Covid.

The M&S chicken long dogs were delicious, I could revise my thoughts re the £6 per pack. I cooked one of the packs of four and there's one sausage LO which will get used up at lunch along with other LOs. Easy dinner tonight of butter chicken curry using a jar of sauce which we'll have with rice/cauli rice and salad.

ETA - picked 2 cucumbers and one cherry tom yesterday. 😊

I had a homemade pizza yesterday for a late lunch as I was to be bowling early in the evening but we were sadly rained off so the pizza also turned into a late night snack.

I took a shopping trip this morning to matalan for casual trousers then aldi for some food. I noticed their chicken mince was on offer and as I’d never tried it before, thought I would give it a go tonight.

Can't believe it's only Thursday, been a long week! Catch up work day but don't feel like much actually achieved 😶

Brambling

I fell asleep in the chair last night and dragged myself to bed at 10pm with out posting, I then tossed and turned all night as I was too hot and sweaty. Today hasn't been any cooler.

Boiler man came after lunch and I asked him just to quote for new boiler etc as it is 21. He could do it when I'm away but that's not fair on nephew so if I'm happy with quote he'll do it the week I get back. He retires next year but his son will carry on.

I popped around my sister after dinner to chat holiday, we are going to Northumberland for a couple of weeks from Saturday, its forecast 17c and rain 🙄 I don't mind the temperature I just hope it's not too wet. My brother and sil are staying nearby for a couple of nights which will be good. Nephew was given cat instructions, his lordship is getting fussy in his old age but loves my nephew so won't miss me.

I brought some nice rolls in M&S yesterday and had a ham and cheese roll for lunch today.
