Dull but mild again, so I've decided to try again with toad in the hole, posh bangers out defrosting, this time I'll try adding the batter while on the hob as per Caron tip, at least that is the cunning plan.

Apart from that nothing much to report, finalised the Asda list for next week, again jumping the gun before they cross it all off as out of stock, I'll dive back in next week to recheck and amend if possible, nothing exciting missing, pleb cream crackers for instance

It was a nice quiet work day so the to do list was ticked off  :) I popped to Lidl lunchtime as I only needed a few fresh bits and refused to pay 27p a banana in T express  :o

That's inflation for you, seems like only yesterday you were refusing to pay 25p for one ;) . I did see real Weetabix is just silly price now, but it's a while since I bought the branded ones

    Meals today
Lunch, I have YS Mark's mushrooms, so those plus scrambled eggs on toast
Dinner, excellent gold star[fingers crossed] toad in the hole, plus steamed fresh cauli & cabbage and maybe some frozen green beans if I think of it in time

    Good morning everyone,
Hope the wee has improved Brambling.
Fingers crossed for the toad Farway.
Hector sitting this afternoon as DS2 is off to an engagement lunch.
The accounts balanced pretty much straightaway  :) , just all the notes etc. to do now.
Fridge bits for lunch. Freezer food special tonight of Southern Fried chicken thighs, oven chips, onion rings and corn cobette. Bit of coleslaw on the side and we're good to go.

A lazy day for me I woke with a headache early and after dealing with the cat went back to bed for a few hours, it was gone when I got up but I've been behind all day

lunch was a scrambled eggs on a toasted muffin. Dinner monk fish from the freezer brought for a £1 YS and I decided not to share with my sister 🙂 it was a 2 portion pack but TBH they would have been two very small portions so I don't feel guilty pigging out on one large, with board beans, green beans and new potatoes.

Thanks, it sort of worked, came out of the oven looking just like Delia or JO had done it, however it quickly reverted to Farway standard as it slowly collapsed soufflé style. Tasted fine of course and your rellies liking the soggy bits would have feasted well on its limp and soggy carcass
There are LO which with brown sauce will be a fine CFO banquet

Dull but mild this morning, with hint of brightness trying to peek out
Up later than normal again, missing nothing though because nothing planned ahead for the day except my overnight Panny loaf now cooling on a rack, the Toad affliction must have spread, this one is denser than the last despite same ingredients, but from what I've read so much can cause this, ranging from air humidity to phases of the moon :D

Lunch, stale crust, toasted & topped with grilled cheese & piccalilli
Dinner, the last LO roasted 1/4 chicken, with HM AF chips & salad. I may pop the LO 1/4 chick in the AF with the chips to reheat, depends on AF space come the time

    Good morning everyone,
Sounds as though your toad needs longer in the oven or a higher temp but I think some soggy bits are inevitable where the sausages pull the mix down. If you want the LOs crispy remove the sausages and bung the batter in the air fryer or oven. It wont re-puff but it will crisp up a bit.
Some domestics today, I want to change my summer duvet for a heavier tog and will get DS2 to turn my mattress.
Cooking duck breasts later, not had duck in ages and will make cream of tomato soup but apart from that I've no plans. We'll have the duck with roasties, tenderstem, asparagus and gravy. LO SF chicken for lunch shredded in a wrap with salad.

  • I had toast and marmalade for breakfast with a cup of tea with soya milk.

Lunch was mashed potatoes with lots of veggies and gravy as I just fancied it. My husband just bought us slices of cheesecake so I will have that now.

Washing and cooking day for me and my sister popped around for a quick cuppa for 3 hours this afternoon   :) . They took the little one off the aggressive ventilator this morning and were trying her back on the one they first had her on  <3 she will be on it a little while longer as they are unable to clear her lungs at the moment

    Lunch was a sausage sandwich.

After my sister left I filled the oven up to cook for the next couple of days, I made half the recipe of JO comforting chicken stew using port rather than opening a bottle of red and chicken thighs as they were all I had in the freezer. I stuffed a large aubergine with a 'Moroccan' inspired mince lamb with dates and toasted pinenuts, sprinkled with local feta cheese 😋 and then because I had to fill the oven  :D I made a small brioche bread and butter pudding (half a brioche loaf in the freezer) and a rhubarb and berry cobbler (clearing rhubarb and berries from freezer).  The aim is not to put anything else in the freezers until I can condense all into my small chest freezer

Dinner was some of the chicken stew (I think it may do 3 meals) with some green veg and a portion of bread and butter pudding 😋

Looking bright out but no sun yet

I'm still tinkering with the Asda shopping for delivery Wednesday, I'll finalise it later once I know what is still available, or not

Lunch, LO ex toad sausage, reheated in AF, in sarnie, snap Brambling
Dinner, the other bit of LO toad, reheated, with fresh cabbage, cauli & mash

  • It is foggy again here. I just popped out to a charity shop and the air feels very damp.

I am wondering what to have for lunch. I have lots of cherry toms so maybe pasta. I have asparagus as well so that can go on the side. I think I will roast that in garlic and olive oil in my air fryer, yum, yum.

    Good afternoon everyone,
Glad the wee one is off the aggressive ventilator Brambling.
Late on parade today as I'm just back from my first face to face GP review since before COVID. Bloods etc. done but BP etc. all unchanged.  :)
Hector rolled in horse manure yesterday so he's had another bath!
The duck fillets were gorgeous and I managed to get the fat nicely rendered without overcooking the meat.  There's a small tub of duck fat in the fridge for future roasties.
HM cream of tomato soup for lunch, Dinner will be JO's sweet and sour pork with stir fried veg and rice
