.... elephant in the room but what are all those people stuck for hours on the motorways etc doing for a toilet? I mean - if you are out on your own, I guess it is no big deal, but if you have cars at the back of you and cars at the front and it's daylight, you are going to have to grin and bare it...
    ...
It is tricky - also depends what sort of private business you're trying to conduct, localised spots ideal for it .... and what you're wearing :)

If you can pre-plan and pack the car appropriately, fine - but what of those 100 people trapped on a tiny train in the middle of nowhere.... in the pitch dark. You don't know where you are, or what's outside, you can't see a thing, there's freezing rain falling .... and you only got on the train to get home from work (having been let off an hour early) .... and now you need to conduct some very private business :)

Even contemplating jumping down from the train, in the dark, onto the trainline rough stones, which slope sharply away from the track .... could be a leg breaker.

    Sounds really yummy :).

My little tot made her first snowman yesterday and the squeals of delight was so lovely. Last night she looked out of the window to see if he was flying :)

I've been making stews and soups this week - the freezer is bulging lol

Andrew, I've been thinking of Tim. Hope he manages to complete on his house :)
How sweet - one of those lovely memory moments from having a small tot:)

    Quiet literally I would imagine.....:rotfl:
A ex-colleague of mine got stuck in snow on the M74 for six hours once. Ended up crouched in the back of the car having to have a wee in a coffee cup ....

This house has keema on the go. I'd got to use the lamb, I've got spuds I need to get through, I've got onions ....and a raft of spices. I used a pot of tomato I'd frozen (I freeze the tinned tomato liquid when I serve tomatoes with a breakfast or with mac cheese) .... and I've peas in the freezer, and I had 3 frozen chillies, so it was a no brainer.

Whatever you call it .... later I'll have a tub of hot steaming mince, spuds, peas, onions .... in a spicy sauce. :)

My goodness where are you? I'm moving house!

    ...and I'm coming with you...

Can't complain in some ways I guess - as have been getting in weather reports from nearby. Friend in nearby village informs me she was still out "doing her community duties" she does yesterday (complete with her cat still doing its usual "follow her like a little shadow" accompaniment - though her little paws were having to walk through snow to do so, but she was determined not to let her human out of her sight whatever-the-weather).

Someone else I know nearby has been commenting there's a storm raging round their house now.

But I did choose a town that has marginally better weather than a lot here and a house within that that is marginally more tucked-away/sheltered. So I can see that smattering of snow out my window and there's a mild wind....but I've got one of the most sheltered (comparatively speaking) houses in this area at least.

Bitter cold and windy here in nw ,my little estate is snow free o the ground which means my walk to work should be too.
I've had 2 gfree teacake loaf slices that I took out of the freezer when I tidied it up.
Hm leek and potato soup and a yogurt will be lunch at work.
I'm off for a week after today :T
Just a shame that when I woke this morning I thought it was already Saturday! !
    Hi ho hi ho.

I do now regret not buying a vacuum pack of naan breads to accompany my keema, but that's life. It is physically possible for me to walk to the shop to buy some, but, even though I can get there, did their staff? Is the box empty when I get there? So I'll just go without. Will probably serve the first portion with a mountain of chips :)

One of the things about going outside is whether you have appropriate outdoor clothing. I don't.

For those used to walking dogs, or going ski-ing, or keen hikers, you'll have a raft of warm and toasty proper hats, gloves coats. I've always driven everywhere and lived in the South - I don't possess a coat ... and I've got a £1 hat and some £1 gloves...but nothing close to "waterproof" or "warm". Nothing insulated and "suitable for sub-zero temperatures".

    So I'm staying inside.

As for the comment earlier about somebody using skis..... I've never even SEEN a single ski in my life, so that's not an option :)

I've got £8 Shoe Zone wellies and some £1 thick socks.
  • ...and back on the food front...I can't say I fancy "Californian food" today (which is where much of my sorta way of eating originated I guess).

Soups and stews are sounding more appealing. Thinking maybe a carrot/tomato/lentil soup might be on the agenda today...

I have been thinking the same thing as I know there are such things as "shewee" but if people are stranded without food, drink or warm clothes then I doubt they would have something like that.

You made a good point about the practicalities of living alone and I have been staying home over the last few days rather than risk going outside and slipping. At least one of my dds phones me every day so eventually someone would twig. Some organised people make a point of having a mobile phone in a pinny pocket so it is always with them but so far I am not one.

Just about to have porridge for breakfast and have some chicken to mix with veg from the freezer and some chopped tomatoes and have it with pasta unless I decide to make a crustless quiche instead for later. I have several tins of soup and some sachets that will help warm me up as well.
