...Or get creative with kebab sticks...
I've never eaten a kebab in my life so do not have such exotic items;)

Went to L1dl, two items in mind: Sweeties + powdered instant mash.
No mash! I went round that shop at least 4x, slower and slower, inspecting, looking. No instant mash.

So now I don't know if it was just that branch or all of them.

Seem to have consoled myself by buying 6 bags of crisps, 2 bags of wine gums, 1 bag of fizzy fruits, 1 of their "pot noodle" clones and a bottle of bleach.

I keep a pack in the spaghetti drawer - damn useful things. After use in the kitchen they get washed & used in the garden

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

In other news, the sea bass en papillote was a success, salt & peps, on the fish then lemon zest, thinly sliced padrons, leek, courgette, society garlic, cherry tomatoes quartered, crushed garlic, olive oil (of course), capers and tripoline pasta. And since the chompers have been okay today, some crusty bread as well.
That sounds gorgeous and what a lovely selection of "bits" :D

Like unrecordings I have a stash in a drawer that get used mainly for non-kebab things. They make great supports for tomato seedlings:cool:.:)

    Good evening everyone,

There was the most glorious sunset here today - I think the local FB pages will melt down with all the various photos. Fingers crossed it means a spell of settled weather. It's been cold today - it was quite gloomy until late afternoon and it seemed to hold the chill from an early frost. As it was dry I had the windows open for a bit but not for long as it was too chilly.
My FR ham hock, though not large, made a lot of very lovely stock which is now part of a big rib-sticking pan of pea & ham soup. Tempting though it is to delve in, I'll let it "mature" overnight and have some tomorrow as it will taste better and I don't want to ruin my appetite for my evening meal.

I think I might be getting more visits from the neighbour's cat seeking sanctuary as they have just got a (very adorable) pup:eek:. He is originally from a home with pooches and I'm sure through time, once the pup learns her place they'll get on just fine, He appeared earlier had a good "shout" then headed off, no doubt to the other places he visits to let them know his "dis" is very "gruntled" :rotfl::rotfl:.
My elder son submitted his application and is now helping his fiancee with her CV using some stuff I sent them which is apparently very helpful (as if I'd send anything unhelpful:eek:). I'll have a look at it once they're done but it was nice to have a day off from editing/proofing after what feels like a long run of being the "critical friend". My younger son has had attempt 2 at making bread rolls without virtual supervision this time and they look (and apparently taste) great. He's making good use of my restored Kenwood as he also used it during the week to mix banana bread and meringues for a work's charity coffee morning. He's putting me to shame as so far I've only used my new Kitchen Aid once:o.

Brunch was bacon, baby tomatoes & egg on toast with a good splogdge of HP followed by some grapes & a satsuma later in the afternoon. Tonight it's rump steak with baby spuds, sprouts, runner beans and a mushroom & peppercorn sauce.

    Evening all :)

Kebab screwers are happy for testing a cake is cooked too :D

My sister texted this morning to suggest lunch in town as she needed a break from her tax return (i refrained from suggesting she should have done it earlier) and she also needed a few things in town. What she didn't mention was she needed help with her spreadsheets to get the figures for her tax return  All sorted and luckily not too complicated to fix, sometimes it would be easier if she asked for help at the start rather than getting me to unravel what she has already tried to do  I think my nephew left the house this morning with the suggestion that she called me, coward ;) it did mean a later lunch than i though we would have and it wasn't on her :rotfl:

Lunch was nothing fancy a bacon roll (ciabatta) it was very tasty and you could tell a good quality thick bacon :) I did resist buying boots but encouraged her to :D I want some black smart boots which will go with work trousers as i don't think mine will last the winter, they're ok as long as it doesn't rain :rotfl: I just haven't seen any I like and unfortunately the ones half price in the sale were very nice but not what i need. I have also avoided opening the Sea Salt emails advising me of an addition 15% off sale prices and rushed my sister passed the shop :)

Dinner was roast chicken with braised red cabbage (it's just as well red cabbage keeps for ages in the fridge ) ) green beans and broccoli and roast parsnips. I forgot to take the parsnips out of the oven so they were eaten after the rest, only a couple of pieces were too burnt to eat :o Whilst the oven was on I pot roasted a small rose veal shoulder picked up YS (of course) I will let the stock settle and skim the fat off tomorrow and see if its ok to make soup with. So this week I will be sorted with chicken, veal and loads of LO veg, there may not be much variety but seeing as we are busy at work it will be quick healthy meals for a few days :D

I'm deleting Seasalt emails too Brambling - though I did sneak a peek to check the dress I bought hadn't been further reduced or I would have returned and reordered but it hasn't!
I know what you mean about wishing folk asked earlier, I often wish that with the voluntary admin I do would when I'm swearing over the figures.........
Lucky you with rose veal, very hard to get and very pricey when you can here.

Ditto on the seedlings. I've also a number of them wedged into my rain gauge to stop pigeons perching on it

As for the selection of bits for the sea bass, I had a plan then didn't stick to it... :rotfl:

  • I was so unhealthy this weekend. I drank so much alcohol when I went out on Saturday and I had pizza for 5 of my meals over the weekend.:o:D

Healthy meals this week, I think!

I just had a cup of tea, a big glass of water and a bowl of porridge with mixed fruit on top.

I'm going to make leek and potato soup later. I'm going to add some carrots to it as I have some in the fridge.

I think I am going to make a red lentil bolognese with olives and wholemeal penne pasta. I need to go out to buy olives later.:)
