We use the odd cooks candle , but for the house vegan that just doesn't cut it when pitted against a nice stinky craster kipper, fried. In fact even the cat isn't a fan0 -
Nope I can see why that could cause problems at least there is only me living with the whiff:cool:. My favourite en papillote is hake or ling, baby toms, chorizo and lemon zest (or juice) served with sweet potato wedges, pepperonata , crusty bread and a large glass of red, ideally eaten outdoors on a warm evening. Might be a number of months before I can contemplate having that scenario:rotfl:
Now I happen to have some chorizo, and some lemons. My chompers are still a little tender, even though the gnashing has stopped so the crusty bread will have to wait
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -

Good morning everyone,
I was expecting to wake up to frost this morning not the sleet & hail that was battering off the window! It's dry now though so I've got the windows open to banish the slight smoked fish whiff that was lurking. It's blooming cold though so I think thyey'll be getting closed again soon!
Mini pork pies again for lunch and dinner is tbc.0 -
A very sunny but frosty start to the day. I intend getting my rhubarb in & general tidying up the garden, but I'll give it a bit to warm up first.
I had a FB "reminder" on this day back in 2013 I posted picture of cars struggling in deep snow on a nearby hill, at least none of that today
Last night I took a FR ham hock out for defrosting and popped it in the SC this morning after breakfast
Hard frost forecast for tonight so a tasty ham hock will be very welcome for dinner, not sure with what, the new air fryer passed it's Harbour Trials with frying colours [sorry, couldn't resist that:D ]so maybe with chips or could try XCFO frozen roast spuds?
Lunch? Probably a cheese sarnie of some sortEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Lunch was cheese & cuc sarnie
Then out gardening, I nearly finished up face first in the border, slipped and only just steadied myself with the spade before I got beyond my tipping point, sigh of relief there
Neighbour's cat has taken advantage of newly dug soil already:mad: Luckily I put wire mesh over the rhubarb area
A very yummy whiff from the slow cooker, so much so I've put some dried peas in soak ready for tomorrow's P & ham soup fest
Decided dinner is air fried frozen chips, ham hock, eggs & mushroomsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Frost here this morning as well, not unexpected as when I came in 10pm last night the temperature was 1c and it was nippy, but at least it has stopped raining for the time being
Glad the airfryer has passed the test Farway :T
I walked into town for my hair appointment this morning to make the most of the good weather, it required a good brisk walk as it was still cold it's only a couple of miles each way. I picked up another small vension joint from the farmers market as the last one was so nice, I'll pop it in the freezer as I don't want it this weekend.
I reluctently agreed to work this afternoon (from home) under the proviso that I couldn't work earlier in the day so I'm now waiting for our IT guy to complete the server maintenance so I can help system test, I hoping it will go well today so it will finish on time before 6pm
It was nearly 2 when I got back so lunch has been a apple and some cheese. Dinner will hopefully not be too late, I brought a vension burger in town so will probably have that with airfry chips and veg of some kind there is plenty in the fridge to chose from. I have a chicken but I'll roast that tomorrow as sods law will be if i try to do it tonight the work will over run :cool:Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Last night I fancied a snack, so used 2 flatbreads and cracked open the 27p jar of 4ldi salmon paste. I've no idea what other salmon pastes taste like for comparison, but I wasn't over-enamoured of this one. It won't be on the "buy me" list ever again.
I might, at some point, try the beef or chicken ones, but not in a rush.
Today, for lunch, I nuked the Mr T 65p lasagne. That's tasty.
Not sure if/what I'll eat later. I probably will want to nibble something, but I've very little here that motivates me to action.
I could go out ... but it's bloomin' nippy and will soon be dark, so it's not worth it for whatever's out there....
I could always nuke some pouch rice, or I've a tiny tin of pears, a tin of pineapple rings, a tin of creamed rice, a box of honey nut cornflakes, so one of those will have to do... probably those cornflakes.
I've a few wine gums in the inside pocket of my car driver's door.... maybe I might manage to retrieve those later. Or not.... it is a whole 20 yards away.0 -
Good evening everyone,
Must be the weather Farway I've a ham hock defrosting to cook tomorrow for pea and ham soup during the week.:)
PN - I find salmon paste okay, vaguely fishy and slightly grainy in texture which I'm not sure varies greatly betwen brands.
Hope you don't get swamped with last minute work Brambling. I've still most of my venison in the freezer I must add some in to my next meal plan:).
After a further hail shower at lunchtime it's been dry. It's getting frosty now so it's a cold one.
I spent a good chunk of the afternoon proofing & editing my elder son's application, he hopes to submit it tomorrow. Then it will be a his fiancee's turn as her CV needs a bit of work.......:eek:My nephew will be popping by during the week so I can act as a prompter for the lines he learning for his uni applications. And folk ask me if I'm bored not working.......:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I've defrosted a chicken thigh to have tonight roasted with various veg, it's my favourite oven "bung in". The remaining mash has been portioned and frozen as has a couple of tubs of savoury mince. A rump steak is in the fridge to defrost for tomorrow.0 -
How did you find the time to work Caronc
Work over ran a little we finished at 6.30pm having had to ring India for them to call Texas, as we can't be trusted with their direct number  we're allowed to speak directly to the guy in Brightonbut his bit went without any issues
It seems the office has had another water leak this one worst than the last with 'water running down the stairs from the 4th to 1st floors  as well as extensive damage to those floors, the advantage of being on the 5th floor is we're above it all. We will be working from home at least on Monday and maybe longer but as our office isn't damaged we may get in before others. A few months ago they increased the water pressure in the building as we were having problems with lack of water on the 5th floor mmm I wonder second burst pipe since
It was a very nice burgerI decided against chips and had it with a jacket potato, onions, mushrooms and spinach
