  • Merry Christmas everyone.:santa2:

My bleep bleep washing machine broke last night! What great timing, Christmas Eve night!

I am going to have to do something to cheer myself up. Is it too early for a drink, lol?
    Redwoods turkey roast
Had a bit of a trek getting one this year as Holland & Barrett used to keep that range in stock permanently, but not this year. We ended up ordering one via our local vegan grocer and froze it (we always get it in early)

I used to shop at H&B quite a lot but now the supermarkets are so good for vegan stuff I tend to only shop there a couple times a year.
CF3 today. Cat is pretty much back to normal

    That is good.

  • CF3 technically became CF5 as we put a couple of eggs out for the crows. Cat is most definitely back to normal. The Spode came out and we discovered the round 9" tureens are superior to the 9" square ones because they have a vent. Probably the best vegan xmas dinner I've had, even though it was only subtly different to the last fifteen or so: Vbites (Redwoods) turkey roast, roast potatoes, beetroot, parsnip, garlic, shallots, stuffing balls, steamed carrot, broccoli nozzle, sprouts, frozen peas & tinned potatoes (no mash though). And gravy. And bread sauce. We omitted the yorkshire puddings as we forgot they need defrosting first
Cat had a slice of proper turkey from the deli counter. I'm nackered...

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

    Good evening everyone,
I hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday. My son has popped to his Dad's and later we are heading to my sister's with cheese and LOs for a couple of hours.
We had a lovely relaxing day yesterday, our food all worked out really well and apart from eating (and drinking) we just chilled out playing some silly quizes and watching a bit of TV before my sis & nephew headed home around 10.30pm.:) My son & I sat up for a bit chatting before I headed to bed with a cuppa & my book. My word my skinny nephew can eat a lot - loads of canapes, two full plates of Christmas dinner and then he was the only one who managed to get struck into sweets etc. later on. :eek:The rest of us were all too stuffed after dinner.
Tomorrow the four of us are going out for dinner and then on Saturday I've folk over for lunch. I think from Sunday until New Year I should be "Nil by mouth" though I know that won't happen....
I'm just psyching myself up to sort out the fridge and make some brunch - I've the cheek to be quite peckish!:rotfl:

    Good evening everyone,
Back from my sister's about an hour ago - full of food yet again! :)Before my oomph completely deserted me I did a rattle through the fridge and froze various bits that were lurking as well as taking out some stuff I need for Saturday to defrost. My son has headed to the local pub quiz with his mates, not sure when he'll pitch in but he has keys so I shan't be waiting up.
He braved Morrison's earlier to pick up some milk for his Dad and returned here with a large FR turkey that was reduced to £5 from over £35 .:D He'll portion it tomorrow for me into more CFO friendly pieces and I'll find room in my freezer for it somehow. At that price he knew I wouldn't want him to pass it by and I do like turkey so will happily use it up. I reckon I will get at least 20 meals from it plus a large pot of soup so very :money:at around 25p per meat portion. Thankfully the joint I want for New Year's day (beef rib roast) is in the freezer so that will free up some space when I take it out to defrost in a few days. Most of the other lurking LOs will be getting "transformed" into turkey soup tomorrow to have as part of lunch on Saturday. Christmas turkey soup is our favourite soup of the year so I'm not expecting any surplus from that to need frozen nor any LO HM sausage rolls as any not eaten will be used up no problem over the following few days.

Despite all the food I've eaten I've still not had a mince pie or piece of stollen, last year I ended up having neither but aim to make sure that doesn't happen again this year. It just won't be tonight......

I think I got bored of stollen in November. I don't have a sweet tooth, and we start early here. Back to CFO. My bubble & squeak was extremely poor, forgot to defrost sausages last night, didn't really think about the component pieces of the squeak, so ended up with far too many carrots & peas. Still it fulfilled two requirements of bubble & squeak. It just didn't taste that good. Tomorrow is fishandchipsnomatterwhat, but before that we need to unseal the airlock and someone needs to volunteer to venture out to get some bread. Much as I'd love to go on YS safari, I'm staying in. I've got a doctor's note...

Pigged out too much yesterday and not on healthy satsumas. As a consequence I was still bloated this morning so I skipped breakfast

Feeling a bit peckish now so lunch will be attacking the YS turkey crown again, another T & stuffing sarnie I think.

I'll take the opportunity of a having a knife in my mitt and slice the rest into meals size portions & freeze it
Well done Caron on the YS turkey but I'm a bit like Un
Much as I'd love to go on YS safari, I'm staying in.
I'm also staying in today, just couldn't face the loons on roads or in shops

Dinner, most likely T & S sarnie again, + mince pie and picking at nibbles for rest of the evening:o

I managed to wash the kitchen floor with congealed turkey fat from the S Cooker, it's slippery stuff once let loose from it's newspaper wrapping:mad: Today would be a good day for owning a dog:D

I've got a few opened back bacon rashers left but have frozen the other pack while there is lots of date left on it
Stollen remains un opened so far, still using up my pressie cake

  • My washing machine broke Christmas Eve and now my TV broke on Boxing Day.:mad::mad: We only have one TV in the house.

I'm so annoyed, we were wanting to save money and now we have had to shell out almost £800 to buy new stuff. We got the long warranties in case either of them break again.

    Grr.

I have had three vegan sausages and a packet of crisps today. Really CBA to cook anything properly today as you can tell.:rotfl:

I might make a batch of pasta later with a shop bought sauce. It's the Sacla vegan bolognese sauce. I've had it before and it's quite nice.

  • Doing well on the LO/surplus front here. Xmas dinner is completely gone apart from a 3" square slab of roast stuffing. According to my spreadsheet the fresh packaged stuff is all still well within date, so Mrs Un was prodded out of the airlock to get nice bread (for the olive pate), slicey (for toasties) and tinned pineapple rings (for sausages on sticks - vegan & otherwise)

How annoying Wednesday when things go wrong all at once, I'm very much aware that my washing machine and fridge freezer are both over 12 years old and about the same age and the dishwasher although only about 8 is templemental

Good deal on the turkey Caronc you've trained your son well :rotfl:

Back to CFO today and back to work, although from home and only making sure things are ticking over. I had the gardener come back in for a short while this morning and he removed some dogwoods, a japonica and my corkscrew hazel all which were beyond me to remove, the garden looks a lot better for it and I'm thinking about putting a greenhouse where the dogwoods were at the bottom of the garden

I'm happy to get back to more normal eating (less carp) yesterday was spent with my sister's family at mutual friends of ours, she's a good cook and as usual made far too much food and tried to force feed us (I think she may be related to us :D as we never knowingly undercook) my lemon and raspberry trifle went down very well but not exactly light and healthy :p

Lunch today was a piece of my friends nut roast wellington (I acquired LOs yesterday :)) my only complaint was it wasn't more as it was lovely and I had to fight her son for a share :rotfl: I must get the recipe from her although it will require decreasing quite a bit as she made two large ones, her BIL and son's OH are vegetarian/vegan. Dinner will be mackerel fillets from the freezer with runner beans and broccoli and probably new potatoes.
