Oh gin in the afternoon Brambling how decadent:cool: though could get "messy" visions of last seen on the midnight train clutching a kebab;);)!

unrecordings after the aubergine custard comment I did wonder for a moment if you were planning some cheffy "pine and chips" combo but assume the Fraser Fir is for bauble hanging/cat tormenting rather than dinner:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

If you were to try that, Fraser is the one to do it with, very aromatic sap compared to say a Nordmann. I always chip our tree in January and save the finest chippings to put in jars on the radiators. Mrs Un uses the same supply to keep the hoover fresh. As for the cat she's not so much a tree fiend, but loves red tinsel. In one of our last years of going overboard we had a ton of presents under the tree. a little £9.99 train set going round the tree, and I made a swiss chalet out of an old box for the cat who'd occasionally venture out of the chalet, derail the train then return for a further nap - It was very much like a cross between Godzilla & Krampus (until she got bored of it about two days later and completely abandoned the chalet

Still got the chalet though, Mrs Un is determined to try it again this year

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

I would never live it down if I was caught sleeping it off in a siding but almost worth it to embarrass the nephews :rotfl: , I'm told they wake you up before then :D

I believe Mrs Un is a vegan so fir and chips could work :D.

'morning all. I had a restless night so feeling a bit lethargic this morning, weather looks fine for your ginny outing in Chichester Brambling. I hope they've the lights up by now, last year it looked very Christmassy

That was one thing that was never a problem with the Portsmouth / London train, it couldn't go any further because it was the final destination whichever way one was going

Later than normal breakfast of porridge, with an orange sliced in, not as juicy as your one sounds Caron, I had some of the local honey drizzled on it as well. I can taste the difference in the honey, has a sort of pleasant "bite" to it, not syrupy sweet

Made pan of yoghurt to replenish my stock

Absolutely no idea of today's meals, the freezer + nuker is looking a likely supplier of food today:o

  • Cake for breakfast - all gone now. I think it reached a state of equilibrium after about a week and didn't get any staler. I think it was made on the 14th. Xmas tree is going up, boiler service this afternoon, it's very cold & frosty, cat is not happy. She'll cheer up later when the last bit of chicken comes out and the hoover is corralled back into the cupboard

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

I spent the last week looking after poorly grand baby who could not go to nursery so on Wednesday night I decided to "treat" myself to a ready meal which I promptly regretted as I spent all night being very ill. I had wondered if the little local shop was storing food promptly in chiller cabinets etc and think I might have my answer.

After the last two days on fluids I have been adventurous and made a boiled egg and a roll with some tea. I doubt if I will want lunch and think tonight will have to be something very bland like soup. Annoying as I have just had a grocery delivery of lots of meat and veg which is filling the fridge.

  • I had lots of beer last night.:rotfl: I ate at a Harvester before the concert and we shared vegan nachos and then a vegan burger and fries. It was very nice.

I noticed that there were police at the tube stations with what happened. Someone I know was at London bridge when it happened and she had to be evacuated.

I've just had more chips for breakfast along with some crackers and marg.:o:D

I am really craving orange juice. I probably have scurvy from eating mostly freezer and junk food all week. I will have a green smoothie when my T*sspots delivery arrives later.

Lunch was boring & slightly stale LO rolls with cheese & cuc filling

Dinner, still not decided, either a big frozen pizza that has been on standby since Nov 2018, or a recent purchased frozen curry

I made the sticky ginger cake loaf, it looks super.

I'm supposed to store it at least a day to mature, maybe I will, or maybe I won't :o, it looks soooo tempting & smells tasty.

I also popped in some crystallised ginger I had knocking about
It will go well with butter or custard I reckon

Today is one of those annual events we all have.... so I've done nothing at all, nothing new, nothing different. Any thought of going out "to do something" was scuppered by the fact it's bitterly cold... and you think "Why am I going out, just because it's this date, when I have nowhere to go, nothing to do + it's bl00dy cold".

    :)

    So far today I've scoffed:
    2 bits of toast
    1 f/bread with 3 fish fingers
    1 small pack of doritos.

The bread, f/bread and fish fingers needed using up.

I COULD.... get a takeaway to eat, but I'd not enjoy it as I've not got "my bowl" and other environmental factors will mean it'd not be an enjoyable eat at all. Also, these days, there's so much traffic + so many parking restrictions/yellow lines etc that it'd be a research project just to find a takeaway with easy/free/guaranteed parking outside.

    So I won't be bothering.

I have 3 weeks to find/secure my next temporary address now... there's a shortage of rentals that fit my specific criteria though, so a bit miffed at that.

No property of the slightest interest has appeared for sale either this week.

All round, things are looking quite bleak :)

    Good evening everyone,
:bdaycake::bdaycake: PN sorry it's been a bit of blah day, hope you find another temporary rental soon <<hugs>>
elona - that sounds nasty but hopefully your tummy settles down on a bland diet. Small shop or not they should be storing chilled goods properly so if you have conserns could be worth a chat with your local environmental health.
brambling hope you enjoyed your afternoon and avoid waking up in any sidings. My nephew regularly falls asleep on the last train back from Glasgow and has to get a taxi back from the terminus. :eek:Mind you I don't need booze to fall asleep on trains I used to do it regularly when I commuted and missed my stop a couple of times.:o
I love the smell of a real tree unrecordings, my pooch used to be fine with ours for days and then you'd catch him sizing it up for a quick leg lift:eek:. Since the boys left home I just get an artificial one now it's fine though not quite the same.

Oh sticky ginger cake Farway, bet it's lovely fresh but like us CFOers better once matured a bit!:D
Glad you missed getting caught up in the dreadful London Bridge event Wednesday.

It's been bitterly cold here today, it was still -2C late morning and it's -4C now. Very icy underfoot as well so doing the bin run was challenging to say the least. I didn't want to leave it as it had a smelly fish bag in it. If I had known my sis was going to pop by I'd have waited for her to take it to the bin on her way out and saved myself some stress!
I think I mentioned before that my secondhand (though had 11 years) 1960s Kenwood Chef was failing. The old models are becoming very pricey and harder and harder to find. I'd reconciled myself to buying a new one and really fancied at KitchenAid but they were too pricey. I'd decided if they fell below my upper spend amount I'd treat myself and been watching various sites for the size I wanted (I wasn't so fussed about the colour). Well I'm very, very :D as I ordered a black one today in the sales for a good bit below what I was prepared to spend which makes me feel strangely :money:for what is by any definition a luxury item. Once it arrives I'll get back to sourdough bread making:D.
Lunch was a pastrami & cream cheese bagel with veg sticks on side and tonight I'm having a sort of venison stroganoff using some of the trimmings from the deer legs I got recently with tagliatelle. I was intending to have "Balmoral Chicken" (chicken stuffed with haggis) as it's St Andrew's day but I forgot to defrost the chicken.:o That will be for tomorrow instead;).
