We can all now officially stop eating.

We've seen it all now :)
  • Speaking of ginger, I saw a McVitie's Jamaica ginger cake in the Coop the other day. I didn't know that they still made that. It reminds me of Sundays after church as my grandparents used to buy it for afternoon tea.:D

Having bought the 1cel4nd chicken fillets (£1 for 17) and over 1Kg of chips.... I've decided I don't like that bag/type of chips, but the chicken is passable.

Won't bother buying again. Chips because I can get other/better ones for 10p/bag cheaper -and- chicken fillets because there will be other products to try so no point repeat buying them just because they were passable....

But I was fed up with the sight of both.

Today i cooked up the remaining 8 chicken strips, ate 4 with a large portion of the chips and popped 4 into the fridge for later. Those chips will take some getting through though, probably four more meals left in the bag.

While cooking ... I witnessed a repeat performance of "open a 4 pack of quarterpounders, cook all, eat all, add 100g of cheese and something else". So "4 is a portion" appears to be normal for some people. That's like ordering a ½Kg burger!

Like everything else, they're not as good as our memory remembers. Recipes have changed over time and, I guess, so have our tastes/tastebuds and expectations.

I bought one 3-4 years ago, I was disappointed. I can't remember why, but I know I wasn't over-enamoured else I'd have had a hankering for another one since.
  • ^ I always used to like the gingerbread pudding we had at school. It had a thick layer of gingerbread icing type stuff on top of a gingerbread sponge. Delicious with custard.:)

Now you mention it, we had a ginger sponge.

It was about 2" or more high and you were served with a square block of it - and instead of regular/yellow custard it was served with an off-white hot sauce, maybe vanilla custard?

    Loved that.

2020/New House Resolution: Do lots with ginger. :)

    Good evening everyone,

Shame the curd wasn't that gingery Farway, personally I'd be wanting it to have a real kick.
Used to love MacVities ginger cake topped with custard, I bought one a few years ago and it definitely seemed to be scant on the ginger!
Walkers shortbread is decent sheep-shaped (wouldn't want to say that after a few wines) or otherwise CG but if you see Deans it is IMHO even better. HM is best though.:) (PS - Samosas dipped in soup doesn't sound that random to me!)
Today has been a bit eek, as planned my sis & I went to do final meter read/check planned to be 5 minutes or so then head for a coffee and a bacon roll. Got there and one of the "yale" door locks broke....:eek: Thankfully there's another door we could get in but it needed sorting pronto so we could hand the keys over in the afternoon. I'll not bore you with all the details but all I can say is avoid the national "emergency" locksmiths unless you are on your front step in your underwear with a chip pan on the stove- £89 call out minimum for same day paid when booked, minimum 2 hours labour at £40-£50 not including travel time which was extra plus minimum charge of £40 for parts. Suffice to say I declined and managed to get hold of a local firm, there in just over an hour, replaced the barrel which had eroded, realigned the catch hole in the frame for the mortice which he noticed wasn't aligned properly was off and obliging helped us read the electricity meter which was high up in a cupboard! As they charged a flat fee for all jobs of up for an hour so best to make the most of it. £60 all in what a difference :D. Needless to say I would use them again:). We got there in the end with handing in the keys and short of a payment issue tomorrow we're good to go, just waiting for the confirmation then I'll pop the remaining key I hold through the letter box. I'm so glad it happened to us rather than the new owners tomorrow.:eek:
I was starving come lunch time as no breakfast and no planned butty so lunch was a generous portion of LO pasta from last night. I had intended to make a quick turkey & veg curry for dinner but with all the kerfuffle I was late getting the turkey out to defrost so that's got bumped until tomorrow as despite being in a metal bowl it's still a frozen lump. Freezer/fridge rake instead and as it's blooming baltic here tonight I want something warm & filling so beans and/or eggs may well feature.
