That's not actually true as stated - if you care to read the 'how this site is financed' article (linked from the bank account article and at the foot of each page) then you'll understand exactly how affiliate links are used. You'll presumably have noticed that MSE use affiliate links for many banks and institutions, including your precious Nationwide, so you'll obviously be suspicious of Nationwide too?

No doubt you'll see my username and number of posts and incorrectly conclude that I'm some sort of bank stooge too, but, as regular posters on here have pointed out before, it's perfectly feasible to dismantle silly and facile assertions about the industry without actually defending it or being employed within it....

Oh, so your opinion that nothing beats Nationwide [sic] is actually not supported by your own experience, as they clearly cannot service all your requirements :p

It's also the last time I'll be using FD - hopeless bank.
Can you share what's hopeless about FD, and why? Which banks are you comparing FD with, which of FD's products are you comparing with which products from other banks? (Before you ask: I don't work for any bank, in any capacity.)

I have just tried to open and switch to a new current account with RBS, to take advantage of the switching offer, but after submitting the final page of the online application form, it gave up with an error message. I'm really not impressed by that at all (and it was rather a long form, as well)!

Was I just unlucky, or is the RBS online banking platform still rather wobbly behind the scenes? I'm sure everyone is aware there was a period not so long ago when they had at least 3 or 4 major outages, but I would have hoped that they would have managed to put that right by now...? No amount of opening bonus is worth it if the underlying service turns out not to be reliable.

Hello, I might apply for HSBC account because of the £175 incentive but I was a customer with them for a long time and closed all my accounts with them but not sure exactly when.

Is there a way to find out when I closed my account with them? My noddle account only shows the credit card I had with them and not the bank account (not sure if that would deny me the £175 incentive?)

Certainly don't mention to them. It is for them to find out ! Can you add or not include a middle name, for example?
Thank you for reading this message.

I found that it crashed after just about every page. One could restart at the point where it crashed, though, and so finally get the application completed. Very poor. The RBSdigital bit was even worse. Eventually sent in the info required by post.

    Certainly earned the switching bonus..:)

    Is this normal for RBS...?

I applied online (without any crashes as above) on Sat .
Yesterday I got an email asking me to upload passport (but not address ID) to digidocs and do an esignature, which I did. It said I did not need to send any docs.
Today, I received a letter sent on Sat asking me to send in name AND address ID as well as a signature.

I telephoned RBS who said I didn't now need to send in any docs, but "could" send in the signature so that they could confirm the letter they had sent had reached me and that the address was therefore correct !!! But that I didn't have to....

The info and instructions I have received online, by post and by phone all seem to contradict each other.

Also, I don't usually have to send in docs as I am easily verified electronically. Do RBS always ask for ID to be uploaded or sent?

Incidentally the operator confirmed that the switch offer would be honoured as I had applied by 28 June (the end date of the offer) even if the account was opened by RBS after 28 June.

When I opened an RBS current account in February I also got an email requesting ID and proof of address documents. But when I rang up their call centre to confirm what was required, they told me that nothing was needed and I could ignore the email...the account was fully opened within a few days.

  • Hi guys,

bit new to this - I see there are currently 2 bank accounts giving a £175 bonus for switching.
Am I able to switch 2 of my current accounts, and get the bonus from both?
Forgive me if this is a silly question - as I said, I'm new to all this stuff.
    Thanks

If you can meet the criteria for both then yes
