This has got to the point where I am not sure I will keep this account, even though I get £10 a month if I stay.

Please can you post details of the account that pays £10 a month. i.e Its name and how to find it on the web.

I looked at the normal M&S current account its not that one.

    Many thanks

It's a switching incentive, but is no longer available at £100 + £10/mth for 12 mths. The current offer is £50 + £5/mth for 2 years - all via gift card (as I'm sure you've seen).

Hi has anyone applied for the Hsbc Advance account looking for get the £200 bonus. How strict are they with the branch visit or telephone call to switch. What questions are they asking.
Any help would be appreciated Thanks

I tried to open the HSBC advance account on Saturday in my Canterbury branch and had a very unpleasant experience with one of their staff. Despite clearly checking on the original call to HSBC that the £1750 a month didn't have to all be salary which they said was the case, this was an issue when we went in. My salary varies so they put in £1750 per month salary in the end but I was still rejected. Apart from terrible customer service in the way I was spoken to, the girl just said she didn't know why I was rejected and couldn't give any more information so I left none the wiser. My credit score etc is fine. After this experience and since hearing more about HSBC's lack of ethics environmentally I am more than happy to stay with Co-Op (and have signed up for their everyday rewards instead).

Apparently you did need to actually go the branch (with ID, passport, DL, bill etc). Questions included income, outgoings, job title.

Don't worry too much about HSBC. They are notoriously difficult to open accounts with.

I applied for their account and was rejected for it, but they offered me their basic account, which I declined as I was only interested in the better account.

I've never been refused an account with any other bank before, nor would I expect to be, because there is no reason why I would be refused. So it is obvious to me that they use a most peculiar weighting system.

That's good to know, thanks Steve. I didn't know that. Happy not be a HSBC customer now! :)
  • I have been with the Halifax for the past 24 years and they recently greedily took 1000 pounds or so from me when I sold a flat I inherited abroad. My complaints fell upon the deafest of ears. In order to recover some of that I decided to switch current accounts - the recent TSB deal seemed a good one and their ethics stack up well.

However, I don't know if anyone else has had the same but frustratingly, having spent ages entering all the data and seemingly been ID-checked and approved, their site just crashes. This happened twice.

Has anyone actually managed to open one of these TSB Classic Plus accounts?

Just spoken to someone at HSBC and they advised they had a backlog of over 10000 applications, and they are looking at 3-4 weeks to process them all.

Just a heads up to anyone reading their website that states they would call back within 2 days... they won't!

I've had a minimum of £5000 in my accounts throughout January but my interest this month is £11.76, whereas it was £13.38 last month.

Before I tackle them about it, has anyone else had a similar experience?

Some months are longer than others. BoS use a "month" which runs from the first working day of the calendar month to the day before the first working day of the next.

Thus the BoS "December" was longer, due to the New Year's Day bank holiday, and "January" is shorter.

Interest is calculated by the day. As Jan 1st was on Sunday and 2nd was a bank holiday interst paid in January for December would be for 33 days whereby January would then only be 29 days
