  • Hi all,

I have just completed a switch to the COOP with 4 DDs, and I started the switch before the offer was withdrawn, so according to their T&Cs I should still get the £150.

It says it should be paid within 45 days, but how long has it taken for most people. I hope it gets here soon as I want to switch the TSB, but their offer is only if the switch completes by 30 December. It's going to be tight!

    Thanks

My payment took 40 odd days, so i'm not sure it will be paid before the end of the year,

check out this slightly older thread on a previous £150 offer, others say the same.

  • How much do people consider ethical banking and media news (good and bad publicity), on the bank they choose to go with? Would you go with a bank account that offers you less but does it ethically?

It's hard to imagine, for savers, that banks could offer much less than they currently do! If things go on in their current mode, savers will be paying banks to take their money. At that point savers might deem it better to withdraw their savings from banks, thus causing a shortage of money and in turn the shortage might drive up interest rates. This of course relies on the central bank not pumping even more non-existent cash into the economy, without any suggestion of when/how this non-existent cash will be withdrawn.

My second quoting of one of your posts in the space of a few miniutes. But I promise I'm not stalking you.

    Something of a thorny question.

Look for example at Airdrie Savings Bank which only has a few branches in Scotland but is available to all U.K. residents through Internet Banking: The only independent savings bank left in the U.K., mutual and ethical. But its instant access savings account offers only 0.035% AER and its current account has a monthly service fee of £5.00p.

I support both mutuals and ethical investing witnessed by my quite long standing support for Credit Unions. But I didn't go with Airdrie because I get a better interest rate and free banking elsewhere. I should feel guilty about it but I don't

What is your definition of ethical banking?

How would you measure the ethical-ness of a bank?

Would the cocaine-snorting CEO of an ethical bank with a massive black hole render the bank unethical?

Not sure how you define an independent savings bank, but I reckon OneSavings Bank plc would be another one.

I have personally come across a hugely unethical Credit Union (EBCU, liquidated last year) and am nothing but shocked by the interest rates credit unions seem to be charging people. I understand CUs often are the last resort for some people to get a loan but I question whether people are really helped by loans with huge interest rates i.e. is it ethical to do so.

Yet again you have twisted one of my posts out of recognition. Honestly Colsten this is reaching epidemic proportions. Are you doing this purposely or is it just that you don;t understand what I write. Your post otherwise doesn't deserve a reply. Bye-bye.
