Well m'lud, the T&C say you have to 'pay in' £1500. If you rely on the switch balance and don't pay in £1500 and don't get your bonus then good luck fighting that one with Nat West customer service!!

Agreed. You might get away with using the money in the account that was switched, but the terms and conditions don't say that. While a customer service adviser may say that it is okay, that won't hold much wait if it turns out that you don't get paid. Pay the £1500 in to the account to be sure.

In fact, they don't say that. They say 'deposit £1500 into your eligible account'.

The balance on the switched account is a deposit to the NatWest account.

So, as the switch offer T&C do not specify that the £1500 deposit must be paid after the switch completes, it follows that the balance switched can form part of the required £1500.:)

I'm not convinced that you would win that argument if they chose to pick it. There is a risk of people trying to get too smart for their own good and playing semantics.

The existing balance of a switched account could reasonably be viewed as not meeting the requirements of a deposit.

The offer has closed to new applicants, but if you opened an account before the deadline then you can still switch (and gain the bonus) as long as you do so before 16th March (i.e. your switch must complete by that date).

This was actually for my partner but many thanks for everyones comments on this issue. However to be prudent he will deposit £1500 in the account and then withdraw those funds. Not straight away though as I tried and came up against the fraud dept.

Email 1: ""Done and dusted. Your current account has been fully switched..."
Email 2: "Want all your payments in one place?...We can move your Direct debits and standing orders for you with our Switcher Service..."
    Hmmm.
