l save all the wax papers from cereals as they work perfect as liners.
Very MSE!!
a chef she knew said all hotel chefs etc always costed out the recipes they used , to the very last penny
Perfectly sensible for a business. And an interested concept to bring into the home too.
I keep trying to run the freezer down for xmas - then getting stressed where I see gaps and refilling it. I got some questionable bread out last night (it was a freebie but there was a tear in the wrapping and some had got soggy which I didn't realise at the time. Cut some of the soggy crusts off before I froze one portion but hadn't realised for another. So couple of slices went out to the birds and I'm working my way through the rest that had the soggy crusts removed).
Thinking tonight will be a re-run of last night for me. Not sure what OH will have when he gets in but he's happy to freezer dive himself.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

@kerri_gt - would the dodgy bread bits do for bread pudding of some sort?? (mom used to make what I think is closest to bread & butter pudding and always used pineapple chunks instead of raisins - served hot with ice cream and maple syrup - nom!)
OH has proposed pasta for tonight but has also said will be going shopping. I'm going to ask that salad makings be purchased as I am trying vaguely to be good.

HM burgers and chips here tonight, naked for me with halloumi fries.
DD and her DH are staying with us whilst they rip out and redo their bathroom, bedroom and lounge in their new house. Love having them here, but they appear waaay too settled, I might have to start starving them back into their own place 😂😂Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

@Brie oh that's a good idea about the bread pudding, or even bread and butter pudding. I hadn't thought of that. The dosgiest went to the birds (where the crusts had gone soggy with the rain before i collected it). I've used some of the bread i cut the crusts off today for eggy bread (brekkie) and a sarnie for lunch. I might investigate making a pudding with the rest.
Dinner tonight was a repeat of last night. Starting to feel much better in myself now so long as i keep timing the drugs correctly.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

@kerri_gt - glad to hear you're feeling better at long last. My suggestion for the dodgy bread is to whiz it in the food processor to make bread crumbs to use as topping for things like cauliflower cheese etc.
@Brie - your mum's take on bread and butter pudding sounds luscious, any chance of a recipe please?
I had a half baguette loaded with these courgette pickles that I made yesterday evening Crunchy courgette pickle recipe | BBC Good Food along with some nice cheddar and tomatoes for an easy end to a busy day.4 -
Found a bottle of Maple Syrup in cupboard, cant see a expiry date on it,. No idea why l bought it so i'm trying out a recipe for 'Maple Syrup BB Chicken' cooked in the Slow cooker, then shredded to have on Buns with Garden Salad. After we will finish off Yogurt Orange Cake that l made yesterday.
Think my costing for whole meal is approx £1,40 per person.
.
While i'm in kitchen will try out a recipe to put in smaller slow cooker called 'eggless Irish Fruitcake' if it works out will store it in cake tin for weekend so don't have to cook a dessert.3 -

@summertime_2 - maple syrup goes with everything!! On ribs, use in a marinade to bbq salmon, on your porridge or pour it over the bread pudding below!!!
@goldfinches - happy to oblige!Bread Pudding (as it’s called in Canada)
Butter 4 – 6 slices of bread and lay in baking dish
Mix:
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp white sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup raisins or tin of drained crushed pineapple (my fav but I think any fruit would work)
Pour over bread and let sit for 3 hours
Place in a cold oven, sitting the baking dish in a pan of water.
Bake at 300f or 140c for 1 hour or until it’s well set and golden brown on top.
Sorry - I don't know gas marks!!

Storm Blas is absolutely battering us here. I’ve not known constant rain like this since living here.We are having a beef stew tonight. It’s got beef, lentils, butternut squash, carrots, leeks, potatoes, seasonings etc
lunch I’ve got broccoli, leek and cheddar soup. I had some broccoli and leeks left and I hate waste so used them up to make 2 very generous portions of soup. That will do me today and tomorrow:money::rotfl::T3
