OH now wants stir fry tomorrow - hope the noodles are ok now I've got them out the freezer.

So he's having a picky tea and I have no idea. I've got the beef in for the casserole slowly cooking on low (will cook that for an hour or so first before adding anything else) but that's not really for today. Had I have known I'd have got something else out the freezer, perhaps mince for hm burgers or a steak. Might be king prawn alfredo as I have one in the freezer still. Or a mushroom risotto that's been sat in the cupboard for ages (though that would go with the steak thinking about it...neither of which OH likes / eats)

Ended UPC having a bowl of the casserole I made. Despite there not being much meat I still made enough for four portions. Used up a handful of the pearl barley that's been sat in one of my jars for eons, and the end of some macaroni that wasn't enough for macaroni cheese or much else. Found the Iceland frozen casserole veg were very good, £1 for 1kg - not necessarily all veg I'd have chosen as it has small onions in but TBH for that price, I'm not complaining.

I made the beef in the slow cooker, it wasn't fully defrosted. It was a topside joint. Not sure I would do it again. Maybe it's my slow cooker but after 5 and a half hours on low and it was still a bit tough. I ended up slicing it and putting it back into a thin gravy to reduce the dryness. Everyone said it tasted lovely but it was a bit of a faff to get there.

Homemade lamb and vegetable soup from the trimmings off the lamb joint and left over vegetables from lunch/ fridge. Done in the slow cooker. Yummy.

P.s when making soup that I am going to liquidise I aleatory chop up the stalk of the broccoli and cauliflower and chuck it in. No-one knows when it is liquidised!

  • Soup and chicken/sandwich for lunch today and supper this evening will be some rissoles using some of the cold pork and cooked stuffing, mashed carrot, swede and potato and red cabbage winter salad. Baked apple with dried cherries and plain skyr for pudding and a cup of black coffee to finish.

Children are at school - think it is sausage day. Which will be one turkey or vegetable sausage in tomato sauce with mash, carrots and peas. - it really is mini portions. They have yogurt or fruit for pudding. I feel sorry for the children whose only hot meal is that tbh.
    I had toast and pât!

Dinner - fish and chips with green beans

I have made oat biscuits and boiled fruit loaf too.

Re slow cookers if I’m cooking on low it is an all day job. Ie turn it on at breakfast then turn it off for dinner. In other words a good eight hours. If I turn it on at lunch then it goes on high. My slow cooker is a non fancy £14 one from Tesco.

    Oh, that's disappointing. :(

TBH, if I'm doing a beef casserole with cubed beef my slow cooker says more than 5.5 hours on low.

Pink pie (minced pork version of shepherd's pie) with a mashed potato, swede & carrot topping.
I have some past-their-best tomatoes that I might slice & put between the meat and mash.
