What are you making for dinner?

  • We're having a pretend chippy tea tonight - sausages, battered cod bites (hm from freezer), hm chips and mushy peas, plenty of salt and vinegar. Might even wrap them in greaseproof and newspaper for the full effect.

I’ve turned a chunk of leftover roast pork into some chilli-spiced pulled pork, which I’ve added to quesadillas along with grated cheese, some sliced jalapeños from a jar, and some mashed black beans with added spices.

Lidl dusted sole with chips.  simple.  just need to decide if it's a chips with malt vinegar dinner or chips with mayo dinner.

I have a rare evening alone as DH is out with friends, so Frank and I will have a movie night, sirloin with creamy mushrooms and strawberries and Greek yogurt whilst watching Wicked Little Letters 🙌  Frank has a new chew and no doubt any offcuts from the steak.

My darling husband has many good qualities but one of his failings is the fact that unless a film has romans in it or is set in the WW1 or 2 he has little interest 🫣 luckily, for the most part, I’d rather read a book 😊

Ha ha - that resonates with me @Islandmaid! Mister CJ only wants watch films that are set in WW2 or which have cowboys in them. Or generally anything noisy which involves shooting.

I have a dilemma over tonight’s dinner - I‘ve just returned from doing the big shop plus a visit to the Community Larder. I have some chunks of previously-roasted pork loin in the freezer which I could defrost and turn into spicy Singapore noodles (which would use up a lot of stir fry veg collected from the Larder very nicely) or I could do a pasta thing using part of a catering sized bag of lamb ragu (also from the Larder). I need to ponder this over a cup of tea while I recharge my batteries 😆

We got some crayfish delivered yesterday 5kg of them 😳 splitting between friends, so the rest of the weekend will be crayfish, Aoli, padron, salads etc with some spiced chicken thighs for variance, and a couple of bottles of chilled rosé.

Summer has made a brief appearance, so we’re making the most of it 🤩

I had lots of courgettes so I diced some and they went in the oven with some bits of chorizo and a garlic. Had them with pasta and creme fraiche. Also picked up a free baguette from a local house where they leave unused food outside so I made a garlic bread.
Rice pudding is in the oven, because we needed more carbs!!

OH is doing something wicked which involved merguez, chicken breasts, harrisa and cous cous.  I'm in charge of wine.
