I’ve made a large pan of a sort-of lamb pilaf for tonight (and to finish off tomorrow night, there’s heaps of it).

All the ingredients - minced lamb, basmati rice, red peppers, green chillies, garlic, ginger, ground cumin, turmeric, curry spices, shallots, spring onions, fresh coriander, baby spinach, flaked almonds and pomegranate seeds - were all free from the Community Fridge. The volunteers there do such a magnificent job of saving so much food from being thrown away.

Steak on the bbq tonight.  I would like jacket potatoes but agree that it's not the day to turn on the oven.  OH has voted for tinned potatoes instead - possibly my least favourite way to have taters.  Think it might just be cool enough to get the cushions out of the garage so we can enjoy a summer evening.

Melon and black forest ham to start?  Or tomatoes and mozz with basil?  Or just prosecco??

Courgette fritters with halloumi and side salad.
It was going to be stuffed courgettes, but I’m another one who’s  not turning the oven on.

@elsien those fritter sound delicious 😋

The moules last night were delicious, so plump… it was £18ea for mussels, chips, garlic bread and a glass of white wine each.  Huge portions too.

A little more frugal tonight with cheese and charcuterie, various pickled veg and making some seed crackers to go with it, ciabatta too.

The fritters weren’t overly successful but tonight’s attempt was better.

Roast sweet potatoes with spiced roast chickpeas, garlic yoghurt sauce and cherry tomato parsley salsa on top.

With the rest of the halloumi on the side. Will be making this one again.

roasting some lamb breast with shallots, peppers, tomatoes in red wine stock (thank you whomever told me Tescos sold that!!).  Just don't know what to have it with.  Rice? Jacket taters?  Well I expect there will be left overs so that will go lovely on a jacket tomorrow so I guess it will be rice.  We always get the basmati and wild mix.

Fridge gravel curry, using LO chicken and various bits of veg, going down the coconut milk route rather than tomato base, rice for him, quinoa for me.

L/o mixed salad, was lovely, previously cooked baby potatoes not sure what to do with it all.  Just had my all time fav sarnies for lunch but afraid was a scaled down version.  Many years ago (50 or 60 or so) I used to buy large tin red salmon for Sunday dinner for family,  approx 7s 6d   but cheaper than meat,  retained some for sandwich, salmon in malt vinegar,  proper butter,  white bread and little stick things, now called chipsticks or similar.  Today it was pink salmon,  white vinegar and marge with reduced price bread.  I still enjoyed but have ordered some malt vinegar anyway, so much nicer on chips.  Will buy some more red salmon for another day. Special treat for me.  Times change.
