Our Vegas to Manchester return last month was on TC airtanker.
It was overhead entertainment.Not good.
Our flight was G-VYGM aircraft,so knew before hand it was overhead.
I downloaded the TC app before hand, and it worked fine..not much on it for free, but you could pay think it was £6 for premium content...which was still not very good.
To be fair, as it was just the return flight, I only tend to watch the odd film, then try and get a bit of kip...never happens though.
If I’m honest I didn’t particularly enjoy the flight, but I suppose that’s because we didn’t pay for our usual window seat, took a chance and they put me and the wife in the middle two seats of the middle row..not even on the end two seats,so one of us was on the aisle.
I just felt that this time with TC it’s about them being as “cheap” as they can be.Also the numerous flight changes between booking and going.
We ended up with about 4 hours layover in Seattle instead of the 90 minutes when booked.
When we flew with them the time before it was direct both ways, had window seat both ways and seatback screens, so I didn’t mind that time.
I think people tend to “compromise” with TC because they have great direct times from Manchester to Vegas, and it’s usually a fair bit cheaper than Virgin. But the annoying thing on our trip last month was sometime after booking with TC....including the return being indirect...Virgin price was cheaper going direct both ways.
For next years trip I will hold out for a decent price with Virgin...I will probably even pay a little more to go with Virgin. But if the price with TC is considerably cheaper, I’ll still be happy enough to book with them.
Although it will have to be direct both ways.0 -

We have paid for 2 seats together there and back which added an extra £100 plus I think it's £55 for my extra suitcase coming back plus the money for premium tv package for 2 plus drinks .there and back ...so it definately adds up...it works out not quite as cheap as you first think. As I have said previously because when we go in the winter months I only want direct flights and honestly we have never been let down by Thomas Cook whereas we have with other airlines. In years gone by we have flown down to gatwick and then flown with Virgin and flew down to Heathrow and then flown with BA.....I don't mind doing indirect that way!!0 -
Hi both and thank you for your replies. Sorry forgot to mention dates - we are looking to go around 7 April for 7 nights (school holidays which are always more expensive, but that's what happens when you work in school).
These we just 2 of a list that came up on the Thomas Cook website. The Mardi Gras Hotel and Casino because it was just off the strip and the Excalibur Hotel & Casino for no other reason than price really. The price was for 2 people for 7 nights.
I have also found this one too;-
Desert Rose Resort
USA, Nevada, Las Vegas, The Strip
As l said we have stayed at the Platinum which is just behind Bally's so don't mind walking to and from the strip.
If you have any better ideas on good deals l would be grateful.
Again thanks many thanks. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
The Mardi Gras is a dump of a motel. We've stayed there, well we were allocated it on arrival. Took one look and paid to stay in the Luxor.
Stoneman, your description of Mardi Gras is more to the point than mine;)
I specifically booked it for the reasons given but If I had turned up and it was hotel allocated on arrival I too would have been as disappointed as you.0 -

How can you tell if it is an air tanker flight? We have booked with Thomas Cook premium Economy and expected seat back entertainment. Starting to worry now.0 -

Flight code GVYGK has seatback entertainment
Flight code GVYGM has overhead entertainment.
Go into your flight booking on TC.
Look at the seat configuration, if the first row of seats on the plane has 4 seats in the middle row it is a GVYGK flight...and has seatback TVs.
If the first row has 3 seats in the middle it is a GVYGM flight, and entertainment will be from drop down screens.0 -
Thanks, it is PE at the front of the plane, so its 2 3 2. But, Its a Thomas Cook flight, so should be okay ( I think)0

By even having a Premium Economy option at the point of booking, this 100% will NOT be an Air Tanker plane, for the simple reason the two Air Tanker planes dont have Premium Economy.
The only way it will be one will be if it is swapped, and you would be informed of this as I assume they would have to offer you the option of a full or partial refund.0 -
Hi, heading to Vegas February, 2019. I will be five months pregnant then and was wondering if any of you have done Vegas when pregnant? Did you find it hard with all the walking/ the heat? Any tips for surviving the long flight from the UK?0

You won't have to worry about the heat, you'll need to take a sweater with youThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
