Now I know that you are all a bit confused by the title but bear with me.
I volunteer in a charity shop and for the last two years we have been fortunate to be the recipient of donatations of clothes and accessories from a donor on behalf of someone. These came in bin bags full of clothes a majority of which still had the original price labels on. Now we aren't talking primark, these were Autograph, Per Una, designer track suits and priced in the £100s. My point is that she never had the joy of wearing them which I found so sad and I am forced to admit that my wardrobe does have stuff with labels that I bought on a whim, 'just in case. too beautiful to leave behind'
Her donations really got to me and I am having a huge sort out of my wardrobe and seriously look at what I want to keep. To be fair my kids have informed me that when I depart this earth a large skip will be parked outside the house but hopefully not for a while yet.........
We all love a bargain and this is the back story to some of our donations that come into the shop.0 -
osbornbiscuit - A very thought provoking post! I can be guilty of such behaviour but I do try to avoid putting things away 'for best' in favour of enjoying them here and now.
Today's tripette to Otley and the 99p St Gemma's shop was a pleasure - no organised gangs swooping and grabbing all the bargains today. Got a TU ,white, short sleeved t-shirt in a fine jersey, (might wear it as a jim jams top) and a cream, long sleeved, polo necked jersey top by Papaya, (may wear under a sweater when very chilly) - both in very good condition if not b/n and 99p each. Then I wandered off to inspect the bargain 50p rail and was pleased to spot a pair of M & Co tapered leg trousers, b/n, in a raspberry pink colour and, errr um, 50p. The BHF shop had a nice pair of Jaegar black tapered trousers for £4.49 which seemed a bargain but I didn't need them and then in the RSPCA shop they had a lovely pure wool, fitted, M & S long coat in a gorgeous teal colour with a nice jacquard patterned lining. Looked brand new and priced at £19.99 but when I tried it on it came down to my ankles and I'm 5'9":o so I left it....can't be faffed with shortening a fitted wool coat!!

:hello:
All a bit sad today in my local CS. Lots of summer stuff that's been there a while on a half price rail, and didn't feel like they had much new stock in. Seems like they are instead stocking lots of 'new' christmas cards and decorations.
Still, it's not like I didn't find anything:
this Mint Velvet jumper https://www.johnlewis.com/mint-velvet-star-knitted-jumper-watermelon/p3809088 I probably shouldn't have bought this (I REALLY DON'T NEED IT) and it's a fairly small 10. But I knew I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it. £3.95 and good condition.
then a BNWT cream and navy dress from Paper Dolls. I think this is an ASOS brand. Tags said £44;I paid £5.95. It's really pretty - I can't find the exact version online - although I worry it might be too young for me! It's a navy blue bottom half, sheer cream sleeves and a cream bodice with navy blue buttons. It looked really nice on, so I should just stop worrying.
A Burgandy ribbed turtle neck from Per Una. This looks brand new. It's not dissimilar to this: https://www.marksandspencer.com/striped-funnel-neck-slim-fit-jumper/p/p60287221?color=BLUEMIX and has the gold buttons on the sleeves. It was £3.95 and will be great for winter.
Very excited as I am off to Cambridge on Saturday to look round all the charity shops there. Trying not to get too excited! Happy hunting all.0 -
I've been lucky last few trip's into cs over a couple of weeks. Picked up some lovely cosy jumpers for winter! Today's trip was a great one as I came across a lovely dress and a little thow for a fantastic price of £6!! Now that's my outfit sorted out for my best friend wedding next year! !
Also picked up some short sleeve tops all reduced to a £1 each! !! Had a good ramage though the box and came across a good selection. Great to wear underneath jumpers. Also for next summer too!! Hopefully I won't ruined them by painting in them!!1 /10 nsd 😀0 -
This is one for the knitters. Five balls of Merino and Possum blend wool from New Zealand. They were marked $14.99 a ball and I picked them up for $3.99 a ball and then got a 10% discount for being over 60! Thank you Salvation Army! The former wondercollie0

Had a good day yesterday.
Found a brand new, still in packet eye mask.
Silk eye pillow (hand printed silk).
Exactly like the pink/purple one, on eBay for £9.99.
£1.00 local hospice shop
I might gift to a friend...
A First Avenue coat.
Apparently this brand "is a stylish womenswear brand designed in the UK for the modern mature woman. The brand offers head to toe wardrobe solutions focusing on quality and style, providing great value."
So there.
I guess I can't argue as I'm nearer 70 than 60 (just). :rotfl:
This is in khaki green soft-touch material, zip front and poppers, a warm lining, a back thingy designed to keep your shoulders dry, a removable hood and back vent with poppers. A bit like those waxed coats IYKWIM.
It's very long on me and will be perfect when I'm out for the day in rain.
£1.00 Air Ambulance
A Joules short-sleeved T shirt in navy with pink, blue and yellow flowers on.
VGC.
Will look nice with a needlecord pinafore I have.

Still on the silk theme...
A 100% silk scarf, handpainted in gorgeous colours.
It's by a company called 'Invisible World' and is this design:
https://invisibleworld.com/collections/silk-scarves-1/products/700-long-paj-scarves-spring-bouquet
which is probably the one I'd have chosen anyway.
RRP £21.28 but I paid £1.00 from Sue Ryder. These Hand Painted Silk Scarves are made of a light, translucent silk weave called paj. They're painted one at a time with a brush and silk dyes, then hand-rolled and stitched at the edges. These scarves are how we started in the silk business over twenty years ago, and we?re still dealing with the same family of silk painters.
Really nice story about the company's origins on the website.0 -

Gorgeous scarf Pollycat and love the eye mask thingy too.
Got a serendipitishus buy yesterday....a pair of 'odor-eater' shoe insoles for 50p. Perfect for another recent buy of shoes that are just a bit too big, now a much better fit. (And no I don't have smelly feet....I hope!!:o). Also got a, yet another, pair of 'George, tapered leg black trousers from the half price rack - b/n and £2.25. Both from the community chazza.0 -
Pollycat - I've seen a few coats in that style recently, one was a Targetdry one, they are great for dog walking etc, I have a riding one and just don't need another so I left them for someone else.
miro - you do very well with tapered trousers, I don't as I find the ankle bit ends on my calf so it is just too narrow and grips my leg if that makes sense.
I've had a good day in the pouring rain. Age UK had half price bric a brac and dresses today, I got two Russian Standard Vodka copper plated mugs, they are hanging on my dresser and really catching the light - 75p for the pair, brand new Dunelm tea and coffee caddys, pale pink and ribbed £1.25 for the pair, a lovely Joe Browns jersey dress, the top is navy blue and a mock wrap design and the skirt is navy with a floral design in various blues, purple and white - £2.50 and a Fat Face winter jumper in cream with a turtle neck, mohair blend, cable knit body and plain sleeves, really lovely and immaculate condition - £3.99.
I also found a gorgeous dark purple long cardigan, 2 front pockets, v front style with buttons, from a brand called Cash Ca England, this is a brand sold in Harrods, Libertys etc, it is 100% cashmere and a short cardigan with a crew neck and buttons is £275 - £4 paid for this. The same shop had a jumper from the same brand, a COS jumper in 100% wool and a lovely & Other Stories jumper but all three were too small for me.
Later in the day in another town I got a M&S grey boucle coat, single breasted with side pockets, concealed buttons and in lovely condition - £7.50. I wanted a coat in this style in black but I loved this.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
