Monsoon silk - happy flashbacks! Miword that’s a cracker!

Oh that man! He’s found an Arthur Miller duffel in my size (even down to the short arms!) in black wool in time for the fireworks. I may be warm throughout for the first bonfire night in ages... (I was always cosy when expecting but youngest is 17!)

Now to seek the right scarf - suggestions?! (Why not cashmere? As I wouldn’t recognise it!)

I'm thinking of using existing navy shoes and bag? It's a wine colour in real life. I also have black, or cream, or silver sets. :)

Cream, and pearls, if it's an elegant do.

Silver, and sparklers, if it's a thrash bop.

Navy would look too Mrs Thatcher and black would look like half-mourning.

    Trust me, I'm a man.

    Lordy! Lordy!
We seem to be knee-deep in cashmere. ;)
    Great bargains, guys.

    DFV:
Duffle coat sounds fab. Well done that man. :T
    I too have short arms.
We could do a swap for a batch (8 portions but negotiable :D) of corned beef hash.
I'm feeling generous as I'm away from home after spending the evening bopping(?) to a group who have just done their last arena gig after 26 years.
Relaxing in the hotel with a bottle of wine in my 6 foot wide bed.

    And you're right;
    that dress is a cracker.

I don't get to the charity shops much these days, but I stopped at a couple in my home town this morning as I was up for a visit. Whilst at the butchers, a dress in the window caught my eye in the local hospice shop.

On closer inspection, it is Monsoon Twilight, pure silk and a size 16 so I walked away (I'm a 12). I got chatting to one of the volunteers outside though and she convinced me to try it on - well, it only fits like a glove! Perfect for a charity ball in a month, and means that I don't have to wear the dress I wore (out with the same people) on Thursday night - cost me £15.

The second charity shop had a Le Creuset casserole dish which I was very tempted by (I don't have any, even though I adore their ranges) but I already have a large cast iron one, and a smaller ceramic one, so I didn't think I'd get any use out of it and at £10, decided to pass.

Lovely dress. I didn't think £10 was a bad price for a Le C casserole, I saw a gravy boat for £15 recently, it was lovely but less useful.

DFV - I love duffle coats too.

I don't know if I mentioned a little find of a couple of days ago, it was a sage green Braemar 100% wool Made in Scotland jumper. V neck, looks unworn, I think it may be a mans but I love my woolies and don't care. There were 2 others the same but one grey and one burgundy, these had been worn and were smaller even though the size on the tag was the same, I think they hadn't been reshaped when washed. They were all priced at £1.50 on the sale rail.

Yesterday I got 4 x Sainsburys brand new cereal bowls, these are a big size, the label on the bottom said they were the Ethereal Cereal bowl, they are grey on the outside with a white raised dot and white on the inside with a little green line pattern, they are on the Sains website at £3.50 each, I paid £2.45 for 4. Also got a Yorke Ceramic, Made in England vintage gravy boat, cream with a wavy patten, I display these types of things on my dresser but do also use them, I love to keep vintage things in use.

Have been out again today and have come home with some more stuff.

Pair of Matalan faux suede chelsea boots in light brown, really good condition and will be good with dresses and skirts - £4.

I have a rather eclectic style and in Oxfam I found a hand made hanging thing, it is about 2 feet long and has handmade stuffed fabric chickens in a very naive style, they have some tufty bits and some sequins and there is 10 of them separated by blue glass beads, it is very rustic and the end is a rusted metal bell - it is very me - £4.99.

Yesterday I was in a museum and I was wearing a pair of jeans with turn ups and my black doc boots, I saw a woman in the same boots but she had wide legged cropped jeans also turned up, I sort of stalked her for a bit and today I went on the hunt and found a pair of Per Una dark indigo jeans, lovely and wide, fab condition and have a deep hem which I have turned back, they look so good - £4.40 paid.

I found a pair of Next wide leg trousers on the £1 rail, they are black with a faint grey check, just need a wash and a press.

I saved the best till last. A pair of Russell & Bromley leather brouge chelsea boots, leather lined and leather soles, the downside is they are bright cream so I am going to dye them dark brown (wish me luck or if you have experience of this - help me please), these seem to retail at £275 and I paid £4.

The rest of the family hate the hanging chicken thing and the jeans plus all the wool jumpers I buy but I am a bit of a hippy at heart and don't care what they think.

I've got a hanging chicken thing (only its worms) & I hang it happily every Christmas & my family have become resigned...

Just outlive them a few months, and see if they insist on carrying on pointlessly?!.
  • Local Sense shop has "bargain of the week" DVDs now 10 for £1, so got some.

Still "bargain of the week" so got some more :rotfl:

This is a really great price. I buy dvd's and then donate them back so they can repeat the whole process again. I see lots of people looking at them but in some shops they are £1 each.
