This was also where I managed to have an embarrassing CS fail. When I was trying on the trousers and a few other things I noticed a tan-coloured belt with a studs and fastenings and complicated bits at either end. It reminded me of horse tack, and I like classic tan for belts and it was £1, so I bought it. Then I got home and realised, ladies and gents, that I had bought a handbag strap. Oh yes. I am almost sure of it. I wrapped it round myself and discovered it was not a belt, but a handbag strap. :rotfl: Never mind, I think the CS gods were playing with me to make up for my bargains later in the day.
Hang onto the handbag strap (lol no pun intended) - so often I find a really nice bag with the metal loops for a shoulder strap but no strap.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Magpie - if you like the handbag strap as a belt and can wear it that way then why not? Or like bogof says hang on to it. As for vintage the 90's are vintage now, how depressing is that? I buy vintage and have to be careful with the sizings, when I was growing up there was no such thing as long legs for women and certainly no tall ranges so that is the first thing I check, plus I am probably two sizes bigger in 80's and 90's sizings, I don't really like 70's styles and I would never get into anything older than that I don't think.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Ooooh has handbag envy!! Well done on the Ted Baker find
My handbag purchase on Friday from the BHF shop was not so good. Spotted this gorgeous black, croc-effect leather Viyella bag priced at £15. A very 'grown up' bag for when I'm in 'respectable middle aged laydee' mode. Thought I had inspected it thoroughly and the assistant stressed to me that it was returnable if the price tag was still attached. Thought that was a bit strange as it was unlikely to not fit!! Anyhoo, got home and recklessly removed the tag. Then later in the day as I was giving the bag a polish and spruce up I noticed that the blooming' handles were not leather but some sort of ropey stuff with a black plastic coating and the coating was cracked and was peeling off the ropey stuff where the handles flexed. So disappointing!! Spent ages racking my brains as to if or how I could fit it. 'Ping' lightbulb moment.....off to Homebase for some black insulation tape which turned out to be the right shade of black(!) and the right sort of dull glossy finish. Wrapped round the 'bare ropey bit' looks OK , hardly noticeable, but not sure how durable it will be. Still mad with myself tho cos I would have returned it.

Could you take the handles off and replace with chain or something if it looks right?
I saw a few things this weekend with 'Sold as Seen' written on the tags which I thought was odd. One of them was a Regatta parka at £15, a bit of detective work turned up a zip pull in one pocket, it seems to be one of those two way zips walking coats have and one of them had broken off so I'm not sure it would even zip up. That aside I thought £15 for a bog standard brand that is available in Matalan was crazy even if it was perfect.
Yesterday I picked up another Pyrex dish, a bigger one this time and £2 paid, these are the white ones with a pattern on.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

A Weird Fish blue/grey short sleeved checked shirt
Burton blue/white short sleeved checked shirt
£1.00 each from Age UK
And a fake (I'm sure) Ted Baker bag in a lovely glossy blue with pink poppies and butterflies on. Still has plastic on the handles and the shoulder strap is still folded up with the brown tape round it and packing is still inside.
And a fake (I'm sure) Ted Baker purse in glossy black with red poppies and butterflies on.
Bag £10.00 and purse £5.00 from hospice shop.
Good buy or not?
It does look the business.0 -

At our hospice we have to destroy any fakes cannot even send them as rags.0 -

Maybe they were convinced the bag & purse were real.
They certainly weren't marked as fakes. That's just my take on the items.
And in fairness to the shop, I didn't ask if they were genuine.0 -
You bought them as you thought they were worth that to you - they'll delight some family member if not, no?
I'm sure they passed your mantras even if they mighty blink a bit at Martin's!0 -
Few nice little bits and pieces at Barnardos this morning, scented Xmas candle in a glass jar, pack of ten pink heart shaped candles and two soaps in a fancy pack from the Hugs range. All 50p each and already earmarked for Christmas stockings.0

I was on to them as fast as we would be on a long-coveted piece of Denby.
Bag open, checking lining etc, purse tucked under my arm ready for later inspection.
They are both really pretty, I'll enjoy using them and won't crow about 'designers' and if anyone notices the Ted Baker logo, I'll say they are probably fake.
I'm a gal who doesn't pretend I've paid a fortune for anything, even though I sometimes scrub up well.0
