If your family is anything like mine on clothes, buying when you see it secure in the knowledge that it will be used is perfectly reasonable! It's the buying clothes for the satisfaction of the bags full & complaining about the lack of wardrobe space that bemuses me about sis-in-law - if she wasn't certain of a (brand new) garment, why Did she buy it? It's hardly a race or a challenge, & if she misjudges her menfolk's tastes to boot?

I walked away from three Firefly T shirts today as youngest just shook his head. Husband would have bought them and worn them proudly in a heartbeat but not his size. Lad got a DVD & husband a lantern, so they're happy. Me, I got a glorious bundle of photocopies on military equitation kit sent by a friend & have just surfaced after two hours of solid reading! (Apparently "and crooning"...)
  • My recent charity shop bargains include a lovely polka dot Boohoo blouse for £1.50 (which unfortunately I don't get to wear because my daughter has swiped it!), a black M&S blazer for £1 (just the thing for interviews and funerals!), and a lovely leather jacket without a mark on it for £4. :j

With it being the school hols youngest dd15 is constantly requesting money for lunch when meeting up with friends, cinema, bowling etc. I was averaging £50 a week! We are in week 5 of the hols and I’ve told her it’s stopping. She now has to work/ earn the money. Yesterday she took advantage of my eBay account and has listed various clothes she no longer wants and made her first £10 sale this morning. As I only paid a couple of pound for the item as it was from the cs, worn by her then no longer wanted I’m quite pleased with the return! She has also been offered the opportunity of being paid for gardening but currently seems to prefer eBay!

Gardening is steadier money & noone takes a cut.

She'll be gardening within a month when she realises How Much Effort & what a percentage ebay takes...

How are you for board games, is her maths up to poker & how do you feel about hosting a home cinema one day a week? Has to be cheaper to get the mob over to yours at least one day a week, be it developing their maths (poker!) or just watching DVDs.
Also suggest hosting a clothes exchange so they can get new looks for pennies?

  • Hello everyone!

I haven't been in much, but then I haven't been in charity shops much, either.

Can I brag about my bargainous purchases in a local pawn shop that is going out of business instead?

Today I got a 3 box set of a film series that I really like for £1.

The best bargain, though was a FitBit for £25! :j

Sometimes you can just see that one person has donated a ton of stuff, yesterday in one shop there was a rail full of mens checked flannel shirts, all in the same size and very similar to each other, underneath was a rail with several pairs of 32W 32L jeans, all low waisted - these were DH's size but he doesn't wear low waisted which was a shame as they were nice otherwise.

Yesterday I got some more clothes:eek:.

Jaegaer light blue shirt with 3/4 sleeves which can be turned back further and fastened, cotton and silk blend, it is a size 18 but not huge and I am going to put 2 darts in the back - £2.99. A New Look dark green jumper with a cross over front and dipped hem at the back £1.99, White Stuff long shorts/capri trousers, sage green colour £4, Next slim leg jeans £2.99.

For DS a pair of H&M classic chino shorts £3, for me a H&M polo neck jumper in a wool blend, grey with seam details, super long sleeves with turn back cuff, boxy cut £3.99, M&S pure linen shirt in pink and white gingham, long or rolled back sleeves £3, Weird Fish cornflower blue top, linen blend with buttons to the front and seaming details £4.

I saw so many other things I liked but left, including a pair of Berghaus walking boots for £8.

I have had that a few times - always wished I could just trace the person down and exchange wardrobes! :rotfl:
