Today it was a 'less than the price of a cup of coffee' find! I really didn't need a set of six matching wine glasses in perfect condition, (with proper ground rims too...none of those cheap rolled rims!), and priced at £1.50 for the set in the community chazza. I was sorely tempted as I am constantly bashing delicate stemware against the kitchen taps but I decided I could do without them. Then called into the big Sue Ryder place and spotted they were selling single wine glasses at £2 each! Quick change of mind saw me hot footing it back to purchase the matching set. The sales assistant was so lovely and insisted on wrapping each glass in re-cycled tissue paper and bubble wrap and then gave me a strong 'bag for life' to carry them in. Honestly, I doubt John Lewis could have given better service!!0

I got packed off to the wilds of Southport, and once work had done, leapt over the road into the charity shop I had spotted on google maps [it was still there!] (Flexi is Wonderful.) They were having a 5 for a £1 day, so I snaffled 5 books & 5 CDs to enliven the drive back.
I returned to find the passport had arrived & is now signed, tucked into the Radley case I found for 50 pence (celebrated earlier in this thread but I can't find the post!) and then into the firesafe.0 -
We have a fabulous charity shop in our part of the world, in an old Art Deco cinema. It sells a huge range of furniture and household items, no clothes. I have bought a set of virtually new Joseph Joseph scales for £2. £35 on their web site0

I have just collected a table - good solid wood, with legs held in place with bolts, from the local cancer research place for £6. A near twin we bought from a pine shop a decade ago for £40.
Youngest is already eyeing elder brothers room thoughtfully, but may not rearrange furniture til said brother has left the family nest.
Himself went on to pull an absolute blinder. Denby Imperial Blue such as we use daily. 3 dinner plates, 3 small plates & 3 shallow rimmed bowls (new each £16 reduced to £13 on the website & I'm not wholly convinced they'll cooperate with the existing bowls) all for a fiver, well wrapped & with a hefty Tesco bag gratis.
A fiver. Awed!0 -
I am soooo cross with myself!!!
First thing this morning I called into the BHF shop in Ambleside and spotted a Stellar jug/pan thing in the same range as my set of pans. Priced at £6.99 I deemed it overpriced and left it. Thought about it all day and decided to go back for it as I have always wanted this one....gone of course! She who hesitates loses out:mad:
So annoying when that happens. We went shopping in Barnstaple one day. There is a large charity shop near the car park and I spotted a beautiful Portmeirion dish to go with my expanding collection. OH says we'll get it on the way back, you know the rest. I couldn't believe it had been sold in such a short time

You should know by now, never listen to the OH when it comes to charity bargainsThe more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -
The clue from Fate was that it was near the carpark so you could have bought it, dropped it back into the car (gently) and carried on. Then cosseted OH a little if he was looking whiny...
<did I just say that aloud? oops>1 -
Browsing yesterday in CS, I bought a Joules stripey scarf for £2 and an Emma Bridgewater mug in excellent condition for £1.50.:)0

Dh and I have had a bit of an odd day with picking up and dropping off dd's at odd times so we've had about 3 lots of 40 minutes to kill and where else would we go but the cs's in close proximity to the drop off/ collection points.
The first purchase was the book a little Paris kitchen by Rachael Khoo we've been looking for it for ages and the rspca yielded a copy in excellent condition for 50p. We then bought a copy of "jive bunny the album" on vinyl for £1. Our very quirky eldest daughter will be delighted by this in her Xmas stocking together with coca cola glasses from nettlebeds sale a couple of weeks ago and a Cs Starbucks mug also from a couple of weeks ago.
The local sue Ryder then provided dh with a fab Gant shirt for £4. Our next location had a local hospice shop and I got a mason cash pudding bowl 50p, a black pinafore type dress for middle dd £4, an lk Bennett wrap dress for me which was a bit expensive at £10 but looks unworn and yet another shirt for dh.
Dh and daughters x 2 have gone for a walk around the travelling funfair whilst I'm perusing my new cookery book0
