I read this on holiday, it was good.
If you like David Baldacchi, try Nelson DeMille (if you haven't already).
He has a number of recurring characters in his books.
I like the John Corey character ones, especially Nightfall loosely based on real events.
He wrote The General's Daughter, filmed with John Travolta & Madeleine Stowe.
Was tempted yesterday with a lovely (maybe) silk scarf with pansies on.
But it was a square rather than long so I left it.
Have seen lots of Denby Manor Green stuff lately.
No Bayliss & Harding though, but TJ Hughes were filling their shelves with Christmas gift boxes.
Thanks Pollycat,
I will look out for DeMille. I like it when authors have reoccurring characters.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

I have been hankering after some pretty cut glass custard cups for ages, have occasionally seen some which are OK but not quite right and have held out in the belief the perfect ones would turn up eventually.
In a big warehouse charity shop yesterday, there they were. A set of 8 beautiful ones, exactly as I have had in my mind for nearly two years, all for £3. I am so pleased0 -
I will not covet the Mason Cash, bobsa1, as Himself is actually looking for the boil your heffalump sized ones now. Huge congratulations just the same!
Well done on the self dicipline C J & miword it has paid off!
Have I mentioned Colne? Handily just off one end of the M65, has a splendid market, near to Morrisons & Sainsburys, TKMaxx, Lidl, Aldi, Boundary Mill & several charity shops.
One had a table for sale in its front window, with a few plates to give an idea of how many you could sit at it - £10 for 21 pieces of Langley Mayflower (which was then migrated to Denby & transfer printed rather than hand painted). Shrewdly they whisked another set of plates on as I lugged that bag back to the car!
The Barnardos bookstall in the market sorted me more good reading - at 50 pence a volume, though I resisted the complete Sharpe. I have a Kindle, after all & we have promised each other we'll try to tidy up the main room for Christmas. We have gone a bit long on the want & read sections of "Something you want, something you need, something you'll wear, something you'll read"...
The hospice shop tempted me with a little wooden box with a marquetry stripe across its lid - an enchanting little thing for a pound & I'm sure will be useful (though why I should use it to carry 6 sugar cubes I haven't quite explained to myself yet.) I took a baked spud into work for lunch last week & forgot Everything Else, even pepper & salt - this little box may become a graceful condiment carrier.
Happy hunting!0 -

Has that reopened ?
It made me think about one of the headlines during the week: British shoppers are buying more clothes than any other nation in Europe. I suppose I do buy a lot, but these days only tailored trousers are bought new and I certainly don't throw any of my stuff out when I get sick of it.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

I dipped into BHF next door and came out with nothing, partly on account of the fact that I couldn't get near the books - a man was hogging the whole area oblivious to the needs of other customers - and partly because the clothes were such silly prices. If all chazzers were priced like this I probably wouldn't buy at all! Which would be for the best really: although much of what I wear has lasted for years and I frequently add to my clothing collection, some gets given away to my mum and sister, some gets secreted away by my sister when she thinks I don't notice, but very little ever goes into the bin through wear and tear, and even less finds its way back to the chazzer.

Very different to me.
I buy lots of stuff - quite often from the £1 Air Ambulance - and have a regular clear-cut, donating to our local Hospice shop.0 -

I'm not sure that Kondo will work on this occasion. I might not love it, but I've invested in it and I cannot afford to waste money on something I could be using.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

So, I'm at the stage where I think hard before buying anything new.

My view is that if I pay £1 or £2 or £3 for something that I really like and will wear even a few times, it's paid its way.0 -
I hate the fast fashion industry and buy absolutely everything I can second hand or from an ethical retailer.
Kondo doesn't work for me, I have loads of things I don't love and that don't spark joy but are in use all the time such as old leggings for muddy dog walks, vests for under clothes in winter and simple things like a plain black t shirt, in use all the time but who feels joy over a black t shirt?Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
