It's so lovely to hear of other people's bargains and I'm very envious of the seasalt top for £1
I managed to nab an Emma Bridgewater recipie compendium sort of thing for £2.50 and bought a necklace and earring set in a lovely jewellery box for £4. Its very vintage boho if that's a thing but will suit dd number 1 down to the ground as she has an eclectic taste so has been added to the Xmas stash. I've no idea how much it would have cost originally but I'm really pleased.
Not cs but local freebies via freecycle and freebies on gumtree has seen me get a fantastic 4m x 5m beige carpet. Truly lovely and immaculate together with brand new underlay and a bathroom suite that whilst not New are completely modern and lovely. It's astounding what you can get for free as people are so generous and it saves it going to landfill0 -
I bought a Superdry dress from Barnados for £3.50.
Don't really need any more summer dresses but this fits really nicely, with a flared skirt.
Not my usual bright colour, it's grey and white aztec print but will be a great day dress for my holidays then after a couple of wears, I'll use if for a pool cover-up.
Just have to chuck one of my already selected dresses out of the case to make room for it.0 -
Hello! Newbie to this thread (and pretty new to the forum!)
Picked up Barbara Kingsolver's novel, Flight Behaviour, from Oxfam at the weekend for £2.49 in near perfect condition. I've literally just finished The Poisonwood Bible so I am very much looking forward to diving into this one.0 -
I found a good as new Seasalt raincoat for £7.50 in my local hospice shop . Current retail price £89.95 !!
I have lost a lot of weight over the last year and it's so nice to be able to buy normal size clothes again. I don't want to spend huge amounts though as am hoping to still go down a few more sizes. So, charity shops are perfect !Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -

Welcome to the fold & happy hunting!!!
My most recent C.S. bargain was a beautiful official Wicked NY t-shirt with a gorgeous arty Elphaba design on it for £2 - it’s about $30 new!!!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Had an absolute cracker of a day out! Just Bolton & Ramsbottom, but oh my! Two real eye-catchers - well, by my reckoning. An SOS talisman in a watch strap for £4 (ordinarily £25 plus & seen at £50 plus on ebay!) You never know when one will come in handy, either to replace on mislaid or to badge up a son Just In Case like.
The other dilly, a real cutie, was a homemade "housewife" with a vintage thimble, spool of two threads spun around a needlecase enclosed in a modified shotgun cartridge for £2. (It was in a tin of sewing gubbins for a tenner but I asked the manageress if she'd accept £2 for it & she said yes! (She really should have opened it up & looked, but it's come to a home which will not just cherish it but use it & take the idea further. A old mini maglite, once its wiring's totally cracked can be fettled into a handy keyring container, but we've not dropped a loaded needlecase in with bobbins of thread yet....)
And for son who-has-taken-up-mountain-biking, I spotted tyre levers (for helping get the tyre off so you can patch the inner tube) - three in nice loud but robust plastic - easy to spot, hard to loose! All mine for 49 pence!0 -
Had quite a few charity purchases this week after several weeks of not finding anything I wanted to buy.
Highlight of the week was an official Disneyland Paris mug with a picture of the dwarf "Grumpy" on it. Me and DH were at DLP at the end of April and saw this exact mug! DH chose a different Grumpy one which I bought him as a souvenir. Got this other one for £1.50 in the charity shop, it was around 15 euros at Disney! Only problem is I was so pleased that I gave it to DH that evening, I've since realised I should have saved it and given it to him at Christmas. They had another one with Marie from Aristocats but I couldn't think of anyone I could use it as a gift for, so I left it.
Also bought two books, both pricier than I'd ideally like from a cs, but very large and one was a hardback. The paperback one was on figures in English history and was only £1.99, I'm going to go through it and mark all the pages that have women on for future research. The other was a collection of diaries from 1945 to 1949, marking people's thoughts about post-war austerity. This was £4.99 which is a lot, but it was a large hardback in very good condition and I left it for a week before finally deciding to get it. Both books were from Oxfam, always one of the priciest charity shops!
Final purchase on Thursday was four baby grows. Don't have children at the moment but we're thinking of starting a family next year and looking around at some of the costs of things is making me go  So I've decided to buy some gender neutral clothes in charity shops as and when I see them. DH is a bit worried I'll get very upset if we turn out unable to have any of our own, but I figure that if that's the case then I'll be able to donate whatever I've bought to a women's refuge where it can do some good. The four baby grows I bought were 50 pence each, two newborn and two 6 to 12 months and all plain white, so a grand total of £2. From what I remember from when my siblings were babies (and from what I've heard from friends) there are plenty of days where babies go through several changes of clothes and I'll feel better about it if I know I haven't spent a fortune on things in Next and Mothercare."You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.
