broccoli shame, am I the only one?

I have a confession to make.... whilst trying to cut back (been made redundant and am pregnant) and noticing how much the broccoli has gone up in tesco the last few months I took things a bit far the other day. I bought some broccoli but pulled all the florets off so didn't have to pay for the heavy stalk bit. Felt like a criminal when I'd done it and expected a hand on my shoulder. Even used the self serve tils so no odd looks from the cashier!
Is this really bad!!!!!!!!!!? :embarasse

No, I do it aswell, but only because on the few occasions i buy it, I have seen other customers do it, so whats good enough for them is good enough for me!!0

I'm not sure really if this is bad... sounds like something I would do though if I actually bought the stuff. I sometimes buy it frozen, but that's about it.
I suppose it is bad if you start peeling bananas too before putting them through the till... :rotfl:Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I don't see anything wrong with this, infact Im going to do it myself next time I buy some.We should all do it and it would become the norm.0

Probably not, but am I imagining it or was there a story a few years ago about a woman who got done by the supermarket for doing just that???
Could have been a local story, but positive I read it somewhere!0 -
Hi there
Im one of those who prefer the stalk... but here in Germany in front of all the veggies in the supermarket there are bins so you can pull of old cabbage leaves etc before you weigh and tag it yourself.... the look i got the first time i just picked up a cabbage and weighed it -without removing the outer leaves  ..they obviously thought i had lost the plot :rotfl: so they actually see it as the norm to do that here....-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

if they find a bin full of stalks at the end of the day they'll just put the prices up...

LOL, sorry, yes I do this as well and I feel the same.

The stalk sometimes weighs more than the Brocolli does - it is huge at our local farm shop. I too feel like a criminal but why pay for food that you know is going to go into the bin and that you have no intention of eating? Surely that is a waste too?
This did make me smile though as I have done the same thing for a long time.0 -
We feed the stalk to our guinea pigs and put leftovers in the compost bin so I don't mind paying the extra. But if it's going to waste, why pay for it?I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0

I choose one with the smallest stalk I can find. I also rub onions a bit so flakey layers come off, and my worst thing is the ziplocked bags of grapes, I open them and take some out to get a bunch the right kind of size, only if they are all huge and the prepacked ones are too small!0
