    Thank you both.

Oh KC, that's so, so sad to hear. Did they have a little one? (Sorry, I struggle to keep up with your rellies). How awful, regardless.
Yes, one at primary, one just at secondary (I know, there's a lot of rellies!)

You are doing remarkably well to keep on keeping on with other things. Glad you have the cat to keep you company (and to get into mischief)!
Definitely looking forward to having the cat - and I more or less *have* to keep on with other things - there's a real sense of not knowing what's around the corner - she felt faint and fell, and had an operation that night, but she died 6 days later.

Sorry you are going through this.  Inquests and funerals can take a while so you should be able to arrange attending and they often have some kind of remote access these days

    Hang in there
Remote access would be good - our support will be more helpful in the longer term, I think.

    Hanging in :)

Thank you both.  It's starting to feel a bit more real now, and I've just found out that this is going to be ongoing till mid-November :(   Plan is for the lads to go back to school earlyish next week.

In other news - I put my curtain hooks on the right way round, then changed them to the wrong way round, so now I have to change them back again.  Distractedness does funny things ...

How sad to hear your news, what a shock for you all.  Waiting for a funeral is hard in my experience, being in limbo.  take care xx
  • So sorry to hear this KC. Feeling especially sad for the boys, what a terrible thing to happen to them at those ages. It's terrifying how fragile life can be. Best wishes to you all.

Thank you all, you're very kind.  I'm trying to not just sit here and worry, so making lists of what I can do *now* - getting ready for the cat to stay here for 2 - 3 weeks is the first thing.  Finishing off the curtains?  Deciding what car to buy?  Highway Code?  I have to be able to do anything that's asked of me in November, so I need to work on the things that I'd normally do then.

I checked out M&S yesterday evening, some joggers for £14 for easy wear around the house (though not deepest winter) - I've bought other stuff too, 2 dresses and more non-elasticated socks.  And another set of two sets of joggers 🙄 when you order there, you don't get a page saying "you bought them!" and I forgot that, so I have four sets of joggers.  Lucky that returns are so easy to make.  Made an Asda order for 4th October too, faffed around with it a lot.

Horror of horrors: although I'm only half a stone or so overweight (weighed at my sister's recently), my measurements have ballooned much more than that, I needed to order size 16!!! I'm not thrilled with that, not at my age, so I'll be looking at toning exercises, as well as trying to do more walking.

  • So sorry to hear your news - just awful and what a terrible sudden shock to all of your family ... poor kids as well ;( Life really is unfair sometimes

I have been catching up with your diary and was going to add - before you mentioned your niece fell- that next time you go to the British Museum - one of my favourite places in the world - that the Bloomsbury Centre is 5 mins walk away and has a huge Waitrose which has lots of GF/DF food etc to save you carrying things. I am gf/df and every time I travel you would think I was travelling for 10 days with no access to food - I bake GF DF Oat blueberry pancakes to travel plus loads crisps and GF snacks but I have discovered so many flights forget your allergy info or some places sandwiches are the only thing left so ...
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Hello LWAP, how nice to see you :) and thank you for your sympathies about my niece.  I found your diary again, posted on there.
ETA - and thanks for the note about WR Bloomsbury, that looks amazing.  Will definitely take a tootle up to the area next time I'm visiting.

So, the cat is with me, he's much less timid - he plays with toys now.  I got him batting at a feather on an extendible thingy from Home Bargains :) and he's discovered the living room windowsill, which he didn't really sit on last time.  Sunny in the morning 😺

Right, I have an agenda this week:
    - read some of the Highway Code today, driving lesson is tomorrow.
    - driving lesson is tomorrow 🤗
    - ring dentist for hygiene appointment and tooth appointment.  There was an obvious bit of bone loss in one specific area when I went recently, and a piece of the crown right there has just fallen off.  Obviously a big re-do needed.  Hoping there won't be a clash with the funeral, but stuff like this still needs to happen, and the evils of postponements are sufficient unto the day thereof.
    - French management company needs paying.
    - phone ex-business partner, a birthday this week.
    - coconut loaf cake to be baked today.  I need something like this with all the juggling going on.
    - curtains still unfinished: hand sewing the finish of the hem, and gathering the tapes are both to be done.
    - healthy walk on Wednesday.
    - text brother to see if he'll chat.  School run starts again tomorrow.
    - hopefully Friday, pick up the purchases from M&S, decide what to keep: joggers (4 sets accidentally ordered, I only wanted 2), no-elastic socks (but I have plenty, and they were only there to round out the 2nd accidental order), 2 dresses (one exposes my upper back, which is marked and scarred and generally yeuch).
    - gardening: a week till the green bin, which is half full from the neighbour to whom it actually belongs 🤣 but I did manage a bucketful of weeds yesterday.  At least 3 more sets of weeding this week are needed.
    - good grief my living room rug is dirty, between cat hair and cat biscuits and 3 humans trolling about 🤣
