Ooh, lots of exciting planning in here. Hardly on your scale, but I keep meaning to go on the cruise that goes down the entire length of the River Mersey
They cancelled it during covid, but I must investigate if it's started up again!

Ah I'm talking rubbish of course - it's the whole length of the Manchester Ship Canal, not the Mersey. And yes, they've started up again!

Ooh, that's great! Never done that - I suppose I've always been too busy with family when I go up on visits, but you might do it in a day? Or have a little break in Liverpool, there's an awful lot to see, after all. Or the Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port. Very nice!
I've had a walk to a couple of local events, that was good to see, but still very subdued. I've been sorting inherited pictures into decades (good lord, they're really mixed up!) and carrying on with laying out genealogy notes, but I've done enough of all that now. Don't fancy any gardening, oops!
I bought a pair of binoculars yesterday from Amazon - I have a monocular, but even the stub of it, let alone the extension, weighs 450 grammes, and I can't hold that up to my eyes on and off for a fortnight. So the binocs I bought cost £30, only weight 260 grammes, and aren't quite as good at magnifying, but that's probably better for handheld - these are x 10, whereas the stub of the monocular is x 12. The full monocular is x 20, which needs a tripod, no quibble, and I'm not doing that!
Anyway, Amazon (with a few other things) is supposed to be turning up this evening - I'm quietly freaking out about that, so I may let them leave it on the doorstep and take it in once they've gone. I'll be really glad when I've stopped ordering stuff - I think the only thing left is my grocery shopping, a week on Wednesday2023: the year I get to buy a car4 -
Good morning campers! I may regret trying to get things done so early (comparatively) but hanging about when I want to get going won't help, so we are where we are. I've decided to stop working on updating the genealogy records, and the family photos as well - I need to get to grips with packing for the trip, learning a few words of Icelandic and Greenlandic, weeding and trying to plant out things that really should be planted out before I go. So I have:
- done the HW, a whole 2p gained
- finished a whole A4 sheet about one very large Victorian family, makes sense to pack it all away now.
- tidied away the photos, happily in their decades but still very mixed up inside that
- checked on Amazon delivery: binoculars, silicon spray (double glazed windows are very dodgy at the back, need lubricating) and battery nightlight still to arrive, scheduled today and tomorrow. Boots order on a long delayBinocs are same spec as the ones in Lidl, but twice the price - I can't get to Lidl currently, so its a compromise I have to make, thats okay.
So, today I need to:
- tidy my desk upstairs, and the shopping in the porch.
- lay out my big suitcase on the ... I was going to say desk, but I might try to tidy up the spare bed too, so I can use the desk.
- plant perennials, if the sun lets me: angelica, sage and mint. That would be wonderful, let them grow proper roots in the soil before I go away.
- I'll be chatting with sister today, plus a RL friend online.
That'll do!2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
Next set of stuff done:
- chatting and arranging, hurray.
- some tidying, including putting small suitcase I use for weeks away in this country into it's home in the understairs cupboard.
The cupboard is where the meters are, so I had a read, and then an input. I last input on 7th May, and since then I've used one therm/erg/whatever it is of gas! Very pleased with myself, quite frankly. Used 189 units of electricity, which sounds a *lot* for one person that's kind of frugal, switches everything off at night. I have a teensy solar panel that's supposed to directly recharge my phone (I think - it's never been out of the box) so I'll give that a go.
Anyway, my DD happens to go out today, and my balance should then be £51 in the black. Which is up from last month, slightly, when it was £29 in the black. I checked out the deals they're offering, and they work out to 39% more expensive than the one I'm on now, so I'm just off to re-read Martin's latest assessment of what might happen in October.
Binoculars are arriving any time between 4.15 and 7.15. We'll see.

Hope the binoculars arrive without incident. I love mine, although I confess they mostly get used for trying to see what the farmer is doing at the other side of the field than anything wildlifey 😂5
