If I’ve done a lengthy post on here I always copy it before I click post comment just in case it frizzes on me. You can tell it’s happened a few times! 😂DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

I'm sort of happy to over-compensate in relation to temperature ... but actually, I shouldn't be, because if its un-necessary for covid, then it's needlessly polluting in environmental terms. Maybe I'll tone it down a notch.

this new laptop is over-responsive to the mouse, very odd. But maybe I *will* go back to cutting and pasting, thanks for the reminder.
I've been stuffing my face since then, or chatting to my sister (which used up my phone energy, so I'll phone nephew tomorrow), but the quince "jelly" is ready to put in the jars. Way too much for the 2 jars I've got ready, so I'll put in some jars that have been through the dw and freeze it. I really must be more precise, I'm sure this is because I put too much water/lemon juice in. Got to appreciate the finer things of life2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -

I’ve just had a super strange chat with a child about mince meat not being meat. They are vegetarian so refused to eat it. 😂DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

LOL - I was sorely disappointed many years ago (when I first moved to the UK) to discover that the mince meat in pies was not actually meat! I was expecting a little savoury pie & it was puckeringly sweet!
KC - I was going to suggest that you bring the quince jam up to a boil & evaporate some of the water, then add a squeeze of lemon juice to help it to set...but it sounds like you have already put it into jars, perhaps it will work as a fruit sauce on cake, or a drizzle on porridge?

I always put my jars through the dishwasher to clean them properly, then heat them to 120c from cold in the oven while the jam is boiling. Then ten minutes on timer for the jam to cool a little, when I decant it into hot jars the jars don't crack. I love the Bonne Maman wide topped ones. My friend in France has found lids that fit them that are pre-printed with "Homemade". I keep looking...

Thank you lovely peeps! Topics:
laundry: OMG and wearing out laundry faster than necessary adds to microplastic pollution (my fleeces aren't 100% cotton, for instance). Okay, thats sorted me, I'm going back to 30 degrees.
quince: yes, I'm afraid it's bottled now. I confess, some of it is in a screw topped jar that *had* been through the dishwasher but was actually just stored in a cupboardI put all 3 jars in the fridge overnight, and today I'll put them in the freezer. With the weighing I managed to do after the fact, there's 950g of quince juice/liquid and 800g of sugar dissolved in it. It never set
but there's kind of sludgy bits in it
it's obviously trying
If I'd done it at the right time, I'd have been able to use the whole harvest - I bet there'd have been 2kg of juice that would have set well. I've slurped a few tablespoonfuls left over, and it's really tangy, so I've got no problem in using up the non-sterilised bit really soon over everyday food
Harvesting the food my garden grows is one of the things that get left behind by the need to catch up on maintenance. I'm lucky to have the chance.
mincemeat: it's one of my favourite Christmas foods, along with really good Christmas pudding. I haven't found my recipe using fruit juice and ground almonds that gives the extra gooiness, but I willAnd as for Christmas pudding, my sister's making me some of her special recipe, I have soy-based single cream substitute (which I actually *like*) and half a bottle of "Christmas pudding wine" which was part of my mother's small alcoholic stash that we split between us. I'm looking forward to that
2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
Yesterday evening was one of the reasons I never mind too much when I don't follow my list exactly. I didn't do *any* of the Christmas card stuff (though I will today) but I spent ages on the JL website, adjusting the shopping basket, and actually clicked and bought the lot. By intent, I spent a lot more than usual, because I'll have an income after this year, the state pension, and my capital has survived much better than I thought it would. Everything I've bought is a consumable, also by design: spices, pates, biscuits, oatcakes, that sort of thing. The stuff for my sister's family is being delivered to her, as actually meeting up with her offspring is doubtful ie not going to happen.
As I say though, today is about the cards, and I have plenty of stamps, though I'll be buying more at some stage, since first class is going up so much on 1st January - there are always some occasions when first class is to be preferred.
I may even get my act together and clean the rest of the shoppingespecially since I've figured out how to do it without wrecking my back. Life is good.
