Was that the Boxpark thingy right next to the station? Where the theatre used to be?

Which side of the big smoke is it on?
To the south, beanie - in the 1930s, London Airport was at Croydon, but as London grew, they moved it out to Gatwick.

Right next to it, yes, apple, immediately to the west. Don't know about the theatre :o Do you mean the Fairfield Halls? They're two blocks south of the station (I just checked it out on hi-res google maps :rotfl:)

Nah, not Fairfield. It was a small independent one. Painted black.

I never knew it, sorry apple. Might have been *after* my time. Or I went into central London for theatre and ballet (I saw Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn, I really did!). Or I was three sheets to the wind ... there's a reason I don't drink much these days!

OH and I used to often go to gigs at the Fairfield Halls. 38 bus from the Balls Pond Rd to Victoria then train out to Croydon and walk round to the Halls - happy days .

Essex Road end or Dalston High Street end? :D Wherever it was I imagine it would have been well noisy 24/7?

I know it well and can picture it :D. We lived round the corner in King Henry's Walk for a while then Boleyn Rd and finally Mildmay Park. Its all changed a great deal now and there is a boutique hotel in Dalston Lane - who'da thunk it.
