Just had a good catch-up. Goodness me, this diary has been busy recently. Sorry about your scam scare KC but very relieved that you spotted it before any real harm could be done:)
I haven't had the one you mention but we get a lot of very dodgy landline calls supposedly from Microsoft or BT:eek:. I'm usually the one who answers the phone and am always vigilant with those sort of calls now, especially as the ones that show up as 'International' when we kinow no one overseas who's likely to phone us. We have a landline phone with portable handsets so it's easy to see from the display what the caller's number is. The number often means nothing though, unless it's an International one as these crooks change their numbers regularly:mad:
I've managed to convince OH that if I'm out and he answers the phone to just let it ring if 'International' comes up on the display. He's just about got that (he's so unsavvy with technology or communication methods in general:eek:). When I was out last week he answered the phone (not an International caller) and told me there'd been a 'funny' call with a sort of disembodied American voice on the other end asking him to press the 1 button. I panicked wondering what he'd fallen for:eek: but he said he hadn't pressed anything and just hung up. His only worry was that he may have been too hasty and stopped me getting some important information:rotfl:
I had major problems with BT when they were my ISP. I had all sorts of problems actually such as poor service, slow and unreliable connection, exorbitant prices:eek: but the final straw was when their BT Yahoo mail service was hacked. It was all over the media, a major worldwide security breach at Yahoo. I changed my password regularly but something very sinister happened to my email account and friends told me they were receiving all sorts of weird spam emails supposedly from my email address:mad:. I was planning on switching from BT anyway but I'd had the same email address since 1998 and didn't want to lose it as so many people knew it. More people than I wanted, obviously;). I did switch after that though, to PlusNet who are a branch of BT but have been fantastic throughout and cheaper too:j
I don't think the damage to me went further than my emails as I make sure I have different passwords and log-ins for everything but it's a creepy feeling knowing unknown people are accessing your private business.0 -
Hi CBC
yep, I was lucky to see that it was a scam immediately after falling for it! Thats important about your email address - I have a yahoo one, used it for years, and I store quite a bit on it, I'd be really loathe to lose it
I must have a think about that form of internet security tho.

Check out the weather warnings for Tuesday evening into Wednedsay. Looks like snow is forecast for the south eastern corner.

it's just the process, but I'm glad of it - it's why I'm working on the garden, I just want as much of this prep over as I can, and to be free to spend my energy out and about, the way my sister does

Oh my
Well, I love the look of snow - and I have some of those crampon things (not quite crampons ... spikes on straps) from Mountain Warehouse for the ice if it stays ... as long as I have a choice about whether to go out in any particular weather, I'm mostly fine with it, actually. Commutes, no!
I worked on the navvying in the afternoon - a lot of box, nettle, and bramble into the green bin, I might manage another bucketful tomorrow, but then I'm done - really pleased with it. It's made a huge difference, quite a few roots got dug up today as well.
I ordered a second Amazon voucher from SB today - I was faffing about a *lot* trying to get the most out of the system, and I realised, thats how they snare you back in all the time, they promise this and that if you do that and the other, and the main result is keeping you on their website for them to boast about to their advertisers. I actively keep shifting the balance back to *my* level of compromise - this week, I've had £20 in vouchers, thats a win.
