Hooray for catching up and powering through lists :j I'm guessing you haven't met the builder before? Hope that goes well when he comes round to have a look. Are you hoping the work can start asap?
Right on both counts, teapot :)

You mentioned getting a pac number from three - I used to be with them then the signal deteriorated to the point of being useless so I switched provider and contacted them for my pac no. It may have changed as this was a few years ago but I think it took me almost half an hour to get the number from them. They put me on to what I assume was some sort of 'retention team' who kept arguing for me to stay and offering me deals. I just kept repeating 'no thank you, I just want my pac number' in the style of a broken record and eventually he did give up and I got the number. So, make sure you are sitting comfortably, in a calm mood and can think tranquil thoughts before calling them ;)
Ug! The bane of my life. I think I might turn threatening if they keep me on the phone that long! My "middle class snotty" comes out to play very easily in those situations :rotfl:

I really do love reading your To Do lists, KC. You have such interesting things on them. Maybe not as interesting to you as you're the one having to do them but definitely interesting to me:T' By comparison mine are very boring and humdrum.
Awww! You've got it in one, not interesting at all to me, I'm having trouble with the caravan holiday thing ;) in particular. And remember, all my to do lists are so big at the mo because this is stuff I want to wade through to get to the point of actually *living* if I was doing less of the admin and carp I might find the phone conversations easier, for instance :kisses3: but I appreciate what you're saying - it's part of the fascination of diaries, other people's lives look so amazing - you live in the countryside in a detached house, for instance, that's a dream of mine!

Lovely to see a fellow spider-plant owner:T. Mine have gone beserk this summer, I've had so many 'babies' to pot up some of which are on old plants that haven't produced any for years:eek:. I don't know what to do with them all, I've offered them all over the place but they seem to have really fallen out of favour. I don't know many people who have any sort of houseplants any more:(. Do you think spider-plants might be hardy enough to plant outside? Well, probably left in pots but put outside. I sometimes used to put them outside for occasional days in the warmer weather but never at other times. I don't intend to do it yet, there was a hard frost last night, but maybe in the Spring.
Don't know about the outside stuff - I quite like the cascade effect of the ones that grow babies, like my single remaining plant has just done, though.

Another spider plant lover here, but no I don't want any more:rotfl:. They are supposed to help filter air in your home.

That's it! It's because of the air filtering qualities I'm prepared to keep them around, I wouldn't bother otherwise, to be honest, I'd have herbs like chives or something.

I had an enormous Swiss cheese plant too :) I had to give it away too, though I don't know what happened to it. And something we called an upside down plant? This one, I think https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/cyperus/cyperus-umbrella-plant.htm

    Happy Friday to all :)

    - ready the caravan holiday paperwork that I've torn out from the Sun.
    done

    - get the final accounts details, which will also entail opening the post :)
    nothing at all :(

    - speak with my sister, for the holiday, the Tesla, and the general catchup.
Yes, but now I've sent the detailed email about the holiday, I need to speak with her again, to check what she thinks.

    - email nephew with the baby photos (of his baby :) )

    - setting aside the photo frames I want. Putting the family photos in the scan pile. Getting rid of the useless/broken bits, my storage is getting crammed with it all.
I've done a "first pass", so to speak, not bad at all. I've put them back where most of them were, not nearly as cramped now, and it contains all of the frames, not just some.

    - text Glasto friend about reason for delay in arranging visit
    done

    - phone Three - get my pac number, my sister thought I'd died as I didn't answer two texts (and didn't answer a landline message because the kitchen fitter was here). I want to change from them anyway, they're useless round here.
Nope. Wild horses couldn't make me do that right now.

    - plant up some house plants (spider and aloe vera) to take up with me the next time I go see bro. Sister doesn't want any.
Nope. I'm off into the garden now, and if I don't spend too long out there, I might give this a go later on.

I'm catching up, I'm definitely catching up.
Ha! Insert here something along the lines of "and much good its done me", as the distant family thingy is on the go right now. Never mind. Progress is about clearing the decks, not living in a utopia. Progress achieved, mischief managed.

Be careful what you wish for, KC;). For 'dream' read 'recurring nightmare'. House is becoming more ramshackle by the day, location is isolated rather than Midsomer Murders village-like (although definitely murder-free:j). Sadly, countryside grass isn't always greener:(

Oh absolutely, CBC - the dream is absolutely incapable of fulfilment these days - I haven't even been able to cope with my little suburban plot, one like yours would be impossible. And I remember staying with a friend of mine who had a lawn of a couple of acres (husband made money in the City!) even with a ride-on mower, it took her hours to mow the grass. Death watch beetle meant she had to have the heating on full pelt even in the hottest summer. It was an eye opener!

Right, I'm just about to contact the kitchen planner, as the builder guy was supposed to phone me yesterday, I thought - he's supposed to come round today, and I'm *not* waiting in all day, I'll go stir crazy. I have a phone call at lunch time to wait for, and I then really want to go to a local garden centre. Until then, I have to do something useful with my life :)

Oh, KC, I feel for your friend with all that grass to mow:eek:. A lot of time is needed even with all the top-range equipment :(. Fortunately, we don't have death watch beetle (sounds so menacing and sinister doesn't it as indeed it is:eek:) but have lots of other nasties. It seems a never-ending slog to merely keep things at bay.

I envy you your plot even though it has involved a lot of work. Eventually you'll have it just how you want it and the reason it still needs such a lot of effort is because you had health issues for a very long time which prevented you doing what you wanted. The size of your plot sounds ideally manageable. Once you catch up (if one ever can completely catch up with what needs doing in a garden;)) it sounds as if it will be lovely. Also, you have the urban fox to visit you which to some would be a drawback but in my eyes any wildlife (so long as it's of the outdoor variety;)) is a blessing:j.

I think I've always under-estimated the amount of time needed to keep things at bay: "entropy increases" is more than just a catchy phrase!

That's exactly right - I haven't done paid work all my life to now spend my retirement slogging like this forever

Me too about the wildlife outside :kisses3:

Actually, I think I found where the fox was living. I have a "dead shed" (the roof fell off, ahem) and when I started the first round of work on the hedges, I chucked all the big deciduous branches in there, to moulder quietly until I got round to dealing with them/putting them on the bonfire. But when I was up the ladder recently sawing off laurel branches, I saw that at the far end, there's a big fox-sized nest been created! :D Fair play, I wasn't using it :rotfl: but that wood will be going this year, I need to prune back the hedge (and small trees) that are growing in it.
