Oh CBC! You poor thing! Projected novels matter not at all compared to the worries and trauma you've been going through with your brother's diagnosis. I totally understand wanting to see him, and feeling desperate about it, and it makes wanting to see him all the more important. But you can't see him until he agrees
and with such a short diagnosis that must feel agonising. And you're not being supported in it by your OH, either
you have such a lot on your plate, CBC, I'm glad you wrote it here - just sorry I haven't been on here till now, for today.
Are you ready to go at short notice? With an overnight bag all packed? That will help ... do you know what you want to say to your brother, about the relationship between you? Do have a think now - I don't know if you're going to be able to visit twice, and you want to say what you want to say, so to speak.
The short notice vs advance train ticket and sounding "mercenary" (which you don't, not at all!) is tough - I don't know how far along your brother is, but it varies tremendously from person to person, and for each person it varies in effect. My mum sank very quickly, quite a few people wanted to visit and it ended up with the visits being about 15 minutes long, or cancelled at short notice - it really can be hard. But my Norfolk rellie, who was diagnosed about 6 months ago now, hasn't had a stretch of 4 weeks at home - he's not been in a hospice, he's been travelling - river cruises, city breaks, winter sun, you name it. All I'm saying is that each person has to be accepted at their own level, however hard it is for people like us left behind.
Will he accept cards? Photos of where you live, funny ones with cats on, daft sayings or wise sayings? To let him know, without demanding anything from him.
Wishing you a positive resolution with it all xxx2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
And for my own mse stuff ... not much, is the true statement! I went a healthy walk (and it was cold, I got really tired), sat around eating, did half an hour in the garden (ooh, I'm starting to focus on the grass thats growing in the borders :j:j especially helpful right now because the rhubarb is so tiny). Faffed around with SB, but not very much, and worked out how to get the French maintenance company's figures to the accountant - they issue invoices for the stairs, for the ski locker, for the front door, all separate, and I haven't paid them separately. But they put everything online, so a history of transactions for this year shows it all :j
Otherwise, I've mostly been catching up with Silent Witnessbut I have a to do list tomorrow as long as my arm
Sleep well all.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Morning! Lots of to-ing and fro-ing on the airwaves the last few days, setting up plans and checking on things - life is finally starting to move along, thank heavens.
Checked with French accountant about the format for the information they need, she replied very very quickly, so all good there, I can do that today.
As its 1st February, I can dispose of my tax papers for the year 2011-12. Hurray! I'll try to shred the confidential stuff in time for the rubbish collection tomorrow.
Garden - paying attention to the grass in the borders is great. I've decided to get rid of the two cranberry bushes stuck at the edges - I've had them 6 years and they only ever gave me 4 cranberries. Same as the gooseberry bush I killed last year, it was suckering like crazy.
Sorting the jewellery was freaking me out - I have a beautiful silver "snake chain" that I couldn't find. Found it: took forever, but very well worth it.
Oh, I bloggited! I've decided to give up the cat one - its **images** I like best, so flickr, facebook, even pinterest, will be fine. Gives more space from my ISP for the other one, which is now to be renamed "the blog"
It all seems very minor, but it's all taking a lot of time - and freeing up a lot of space.
SB seems to be trying to get rid of peopleI'll be focussing on getting the next 100 points to get another Amazon voucher, then doing what I can. I confess, now that I'm addicted to Game Of Thrones, I bought the next two series on DVD. SB came in very helpful there

Hurry up and get that novel written missus - you've been discussing it since before your non-fiction book!
I do love a bit of Wyndham, I think you should bring back the cozy catastrophe, all my favourites of the genre are now 40 years old :eek:0 -
I remember reading your book

Okay!
:rotfl: I *am* bad at talking and not doing sometimes, but I was just emailing a friend and telling her that my desk is clear (physically clear) now that the accounts are done. Today is the last day I'm not focussing on the writing, so from tomorrow .... its all systems go :j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

:kisses3: Thanks!
French accounts just submitted by email - no proof yet of the bank charges for the current account - I'm threatening to send my bank statements, and they can pick out the 80 cents a month from it allalthough in truth, the bank will send a statement in a couple of weeks
Papers are in a complete mess, everywhere: I declare French accounts for English tax years and French tax years, and they're different  so the filing system has to be in flux at this time of year. Never mind, all done now :j
Sorted the paper to be shredded, from the Very Old Tax Papers, the bulk of that will be quick, the fiddly bits much longer.
Can't bear any more paperwork just now, so I'm off out into the garden - either filling the bin for tomorrow, or more weeding, though its cold out there :xmassmile2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Glad thats all done.
You are more hardy than me.
Way too cold for the garden here :eek:I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. I love Game of Thrones!
I have the DVDs up to series 4, and do intend to get the next series at some point.
At the moment our TV viewing is London's Burning. The Drama Channel is showing them right from the beginning, so we record them and then binge watch. We are up to series 8 at the moment, in 1995. I used to really enjoy that show, and it's withstood the test of time. I almost feel like I'm part of Blue Watch at the moment :rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014
