...I came home with leftovers, of course, as you do
...
Leftovers are great - no cooking efforts required for days! - unless you count a quick zap in the microwave as cooking! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
For us, leftovers today only consist of things with sugar in it! (Can tell we rarely partake of anything sweet!) so cooking is in the cards for the next 1.5 weeks! We will be doing our usual holiday storecupboard challenge and see if we can clear some shelf and freezer space!:D4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 10 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 15 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!0 -
I hope its all enjoyable, RT - or interesting, at least
:rotfl:
I walked to Saynsbo, just to have a proper walk, but didn't buy anything - I couldn't quite face it :rotfl:although even today their Xmas cards were pretty bargainous. Came back though, texted with partner/colleague, and then started clearing some more genealogy notes from my mother - I'm doing the easy stuff first, the stuff I gave her :rotfl: its all printed or in my handwriting, so I'm kind of racing through it. Currently on the census for New York in 1920 - my great great grandfather worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yardhe really did.

Good morning lovely people
A misty start here, it looks very beautiful, though I know its cold outside. And I've been up for a few hours now, so ready to get going. Today I have to/want to:
- go to my bank, I need to pay off a cc by tomorrow, and can't do it online, they didn't tell me about needing a card reader. I'm glad to have the extra level of security, but I really don't want to not pay a cc!
- speak with my colleague, set something up for next week.
- text my brother, check that he's still on the same planet as me. He's had a lot of driving to do to help rellies out.
- carry on with the genealogy notes, decluttering them, including setting up a stack for my sister, she'd rather have actual papers, rather than compuer files :rotfl:
- I bought some veg a few days ago. I'd really better start cooking it2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Like a lot of others, I'm getting the urge to do the planning for 2019, though actually a lot of it has been done.
- I'm doing the Ultra Frugal Month on Frugalwoods.
- I'm getting the kitchen revamped after that (including a rewire of the whole of downstairs and the plaster in the hall repaired/renewed).
- I'm carrying on building local links, and I have some repair work to do, apparently. My freakout at the number of spiders in the flat where I was rabbit-sitting has meant they thought I didn't want to do it at all, but I do. My freak-outs are not the responsibility of other people.
- setting up travel, sometimes genealogy in this country, sometimes tourist type travel overseas. I don't think I want to go to Uzbekistan this year, which was the expensive trip that was under discussion, I think there are places I want to go to more than that.
- last but not least, start using my craft stash, in as many ways as I can think of.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Happy plotting for 2019
That’s a good plan taking shape there. A frugal January on the cards here too.
I’ve enjoyed the kitchen planning too. Given me a few ideas for when we do ours in a few years time so thank you to all the contributors.0 -

Good to hear you are looking forward to 2019 with renewed vigour to get things done, KC:beer:. I'm doing the same. Your exploits in the garden (where the cherry laurel features a lot) have put me to shame this past few months:o but there are lots of other things I've planned and schemed over.
Thanks for mentioning the Frugalwoods Challenge:T. I've never heard of it before but I've just zoomed over there and taken a quick peek and may find it useful myself. I'll have a good read later although I tend to find these American sites a bit too folksy for me.
I've read several budgeting books this past few months, mainly gleaned from charity shops for pennies:j, and have sort of formulated a plan for 2019. I cut out all waste in my spending when I first started my DMP and can't see where I can cut any more. I'd hoped as debt-freedom approached that I could begin to cut myself a bit of slack after all these years.
I've opened a savings account with decent interest and deposited all my savings into it, enough to cover the whole of my remaining debt. I am waiting for good final settlement offers before I pay the final debt balances as with interest permanently frozen it doesn't matter now how long it takes;). It's sheer cussedness on my part as I could pay in full but so many people have had huge debts written off in final settlements and I feel my creditors have had more than their pound of flesh from me:mad:. I know they are my debts, no one held a gun to my head to use credit and I feel duty bound to repay them but the majority of it was because of extortionate interest and charges before they froze them:mad:. As of now I'm in effect debt-free. or 'debt-neutral' as someone on another thread put it, and every penny I have coming in is now my own:j:j:j. The savings account will allow 2 free withdrawals a year without loss of interest (and I just have 2 debts remaining). That means I won't be tempted to dip into it for anything else. I'm not sure I can trust myself with money yet, I feel like someone being let out of prison:eek:
My car is 17 years old and still looks and drives really well but it can't last forever and a car out here is an absolute lifeline. My aim this year is to save as much as humanly possible to build up a 'new to me' car fund so the frugal lifestyle will be continuing for a good while yet. My savings now are zero:eek:. There are a few things that I really, really need (as opposed to merely want) such as a new recliner armchair for my sitting room. It doesn't need to match anything else, it's my little refuge and only has room for one chair. The current one is donkey's years old and causes back pain to sit in it for any length of time. I do a lot of reading and need a comfy chair. It looks so shabby now, there is bare wood where the padding has 'disappeared' somehow on the arms. It's downright uncomfortable even with pillows and a throw on it. I've told OH when he eventually takes it to the tip he'd better do it under cover of darkness:rotfl:. I consider a good chair is definitely a need not a luxury and I shall enjoy going out shopping for one with money that is actually mine and not the credit card company's. Likewise a good reading lamp.
So, for 2019, Frugalists 'R' Us. I wish us both the very best of luck with it:beer:0 -
Hi Karmacat, great to see your plans for 2019
Let us know how you get on with the frugalwoods challenge! I've been eyeing that one up for a little while, but can't quite get myself to commit just yet.
All the best for 2019 :heart2:0 -
I've signed up to the FW month - but I don't expect to be fully following along - I'm just hoping there will be the odd useful bit for me to use

xxyes, same as me - after the first two emails, I've just scanned through and not found anything that was new to me, which is fine, of course - at least I can check things out.

because I have free, much faster disposal right now! Aim is to get it done by next Tuesday afternoon, as the bin is collected early Wednesday morning, and then I'm back to basics.

I get that, I really do. My day in day out seating is an Ikea armchair, the cushion is disgusting, and also uncomfortable, I have to adjust it at least six times a day. I want a new one, but I need to be able to rest my head - but I don't want an old fashioned "wing" armchair. It's tricky. So yes, your savings are really crucial. So, for 2019, Frugalists 'R' Us.
