Just noticed that Utility Point have brought our a new tariff with a lower per unit charge (for Gas at least).

I believe you will receive your £25.00 credit on your first bill.

Yeah I switched over from my existing Utility Point variable gas tariff to their new variable gas tariff yesterday via phone. Got through very quickly indeed.

They told me they'd switch me over with no charge (as you'd expect when moving from a variable tariff), but if I do it again in the future, they'll charge me a £36 "administration fee" (which happens to be exactly the same price as the exit fee per fuel, for people who leave their fixed contract early).

When I challenged him, he said it's not an "exit fee", it's an admin fee for changing tariff.

Definitely shady in that regard, otherwise everything else has been good.

I've forwarded an enquiry about what assistance they offer for mobility challenged OAPs given it seems they don't support Smart meters.
Caution advised. They are cheap and cheerful. Don't expect them to come and read your parents meters. If you know someobdy that can read the meters for them once a month (day before monthly account date) AND submt the readings online AND chase them (Customer Support is pretty thin) then go for it.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

I'm sure the OP's parents would be aware of this by now if they eventually opted for Utility Point when this thread was created over a year ago.

Meanwhile the OP opted for OutFoxTheMarket as their supplier, and appears to have been moaning about them ever since.

Good to see all that emailing like mad and checking other places, such as Companies House paid off

I've just arranged a switch via their website. I discovered two extras - they refund up to £36 per energy for exit fees charged by a previous supplier and they have a Reward Points scheme for reductions on your shopping. They also answered the phone immediately!!

    Hi
Have you a link for UPpaying the exit fee of the previous supplier? I can't find one and have just spoken to two people who don't know anything about it.
    TIA

Just joined them and so far no issues. However no sign of my £25.00 referral credit. However not sure how long it takes to show my account.

This is reply I received, I am in process of switching Gas only, reason for my email to them was saying if arent going to pay the 25.00 referral for Gas only I will cancel my switch. Within RAF portal it does say "every single switch", subsequent posts on this thread with a link to T+C indicates is not paid for Gas only switches.

"The referral credit will be applied when our Accounts Department have checked the account and when your supply is live.

Due to the popularity of the scheme, please do not worry if you do not see this straight away when you have joined as this will be applied when our Accounts Department have checked the account."

Just joined a few days ago on the variable rate dual fuel tariff February 2019.
Tried another check via the MSE energy switcher and I noticed the April variable tariff was cheaper, as have others here.
emailed them 2 days into starting my supply and they replied with this:

    Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your email, apologies for the delayed response.

I have been through our quote process and using your signup usage I can see that the direct debit amount is £66.78.

To make you aware we can change a tariff once free of charge, but if you wish to change tariff in the future if a better deal comes out there wold be a charge of £36.

Please advise whether you wish for us to proceed with the switch to UP Variable Direct Apr19.

If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact us.

[the 'would' typo is verbatim from the e-mail]

I can't seem to find this charge mentioned ANYWHERE in their terms and conditions.

Basically if they drop their prices again, I'll switch out to another supplier then switch back in.

    Could be covered by T&C
7.2 Additional charges : Please contact us for further information.

    But this contradicts the email
14.2 If you leave us after the cooling off period, we may charge a termination fee as detailed in the additional charges list, unless we told you that we would not do so in your welcome pack).

14.3 You do not have to pay us a termination fee if:
14.3.3 You are moving from a variable package to another package.

14.4 Other than the situations set out above, we reserve the right to charge a termination fee. This includes moving away from a fixed package– in this case we will determine at our discretion whether or not to allow the move or charge a termination fee.

I would argue that if the welcome letter says that you are on a variable package and there are no exits fees then there is nothing to stop you moving to another package.
So if the new package is variable and has no exit fees then you should be free to change again without fees.

You would need to argue this point BEFORE getting them to action the move in the email as it could be read that you agreed to the possible £36 fees in future as notified in said email.

So far very pleased with UP. Account all up and running. First DD shown and the agreed £25.00 paid into the account and that is before the first bill is produced. For me the tariff I chose is very competiively priced.
