Keep tuned for further updates on this matter ...:)

So here is the latest developments.

The good news is that Utility Point responsed to my complaint earlier this evening by email :)

Unfortunately it appears to be full of double talk and nonsense, generally.
I fear that the author has tried to cut & paste from some sort of 'Bible on how to respond to complaints' :(

I suggest this because some of the responses don't quite address the point I raise, others seem to be factually incorrect (imho), and indeed some parts of the response seems to contradict what the author states earlier with their response.

Utility Point agree with the consumption figures I claim were provided when I joined them, and hence the monthly figure in £ that was originally agreed.
However, they say that based on my monthly meter readings, they do now believe I over-estimated my annual consumption as indicated on my most recent energy statement. What I didn't tell them, and so they not commented on is that the same reduced consumption figure was provided on my very first monthly statement 5 months ago.

So, you may wonder, if they are claiming the lower anticipated annual consumption, howcome they want an extra 20% per month?

Well they have recalculated since my complaint (they have had no meter readings since their request for a higher payment and today), and now say rather than a 20% increase in monthly payment, the payment should actually be reduced from the original by over 10%

However, as I requested the original payment level be reinstated (not least, because I don't follow why they think I will use less - I joined them in the spring, and so since then and through the summer, my consumption would be slightly less per month than I expect will will be during the cold, dark winter days; it's called seasonal variation) that is what they have done. If I want it reduced, they would do so to the new amount they have now calculated on request.

I also have the reversion officially in a fully compliant new advance notice. :)

    Confused? I certainly am.
    Assured? No not really.

So, bottom line, is they have reverted the payment back to the agreed amount.
But I have worries as they add they will still continually review the amount, and so may change it again at any time in the future.

If they do, I think I'll take a leaf out of their book, and copy & paste my complaint filed back to them again

So if anyone else receives an unwarrated demand for a higher monthly payment, my advice would be to challenge it; it seems they will cave in quite easily. :)

I see they have already adjusted my online account to reflect the increased monthly payment.

Edit: I can't see how to manage it from there despite their term 9.3 which includes:
You will manage your monthly Direct Debit (if you have one) using your UP Utility Hub only.

Apparently, they have not yet developed this function. It's on their 'to do' list and we will be informed as and when it becomes available.

Another person who, despite large credit amounts and a known annual usage had the DD increase by exactly £4.
  • Sorry, I didn't notice this thread previously in my haste to post :o

But I too am another one who has had a demand for a £4.00 pm increase in my monthly payment

Another one who has been told their monthly DD payment is to increase by exactly £4.00.

Is it still worth arguing against this?

Worth a try if you feel the increase is unjustified.

Seems to be a 100% success rate with those affected by this Utility Point £4pm increase by MSEers who have tried :T

    Thanks wavelets.

I've challenged the increase. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. :money:

    Waiting for their response.
