The bank will take the £1500 once they have finished their investigation. HTH.0

thanks. they have investigated and said they aren't refunding. so do you mean the appeal? why would they not take the 1500 when they've took the 500 though. that's what's puzzling me. when I first rang the bank before he put me through to fraud. he kept telling me to ring the stores and they might be able to cancel the transaction as it wasn't authorised. this didn't really make sense that the shop would do this, even with a crime number. that's when he put me through to lost and stolen and they said no you don't need to ring the stores we'll refund it for now and stop the pending charges0

The stores will not lose out regardless, as long as your PIN was used for those transactions then they ARE authorised as far as the Bank is concerned.
I very much doubt you'll have any luck with your appeal, but perhaps the Police will have better luck with the alleged thief using the CCTV evidence.
A very timely warning not to be distracted when entering a PIN and to also be aware of those surrounding you.
I actually think it's very difficult to see someone entering their PIN, unless they are very very close, but learning to enter the PIN with both hands would be my advice.
I'm sorry you appear to have been a victim of theft.0

thanks for everyone's reply. but im.guessing no one can answer my actual question. of why the bank have only taken part of the money and not yet the store purchases. my letter stated the charges would be applied a week ago. no mention of anything on hold pending the appeal. I don't understand why they would drag it out. if they're going to take it why not take it already, together. it's annoying checking every day to see if they have took it yet. sorting out what money is mine and what they are due to take ect.0

You would rather lose £500 than ring the bank and risk losing the rest.....sounds like there was no theft/loss of card.
If i had be the subject of fraud I would not be picking and choosing or worry about this that and the other, I would be making sure I paid nothing after the loss/theft was reported.
How did they get your PIN?0

If the amount being taken would result in you entering your overdraft then your liability is limited to the first £50. See post #4jrothwell2 wrote: »but im.guessing no one can answer my actual question. of why the bank have only taken part of the money and not yet the store purchases.
However, I'd want written confirmation if this is the case from the bank. It's also possible the amount is still on hold (though the retailers will have been paid) pending your appeal.jrothwell2 wrote: »I don't want to ring the bank. If I could I would rather just lose 500, rather than alerting them, and the appeal be rejected and lose 2000.
Do you really think the Bank won't (eventually) realise this if it is their error? I don't think you need to worry about "alerting" them of anything, they won't simply "lose" £1500!0

chancesare - how judgmental when you don't even know any facts beside what I have briefly mentioned. or seen the cctv!!!! so don't tell me that it doesn't sound like fraud when you don't have full facts. I would obviously rather get the 2k back since I never spent it. but 2 weeks later after the initial shock, losing 500 would be better than 1500. looking at the appeal process and after that seems quite along process. and I current have personal circumstances. being a witness amongst other things. so yes to lose 500 at the minute seems better than the whole process of trying to get the full amount back. again don't answer on a thread when you're not even answering the question that was asked. all I wanted to know is why they are dragging it out and not just take it all together !! god sake. didn't realise how hard it was just to ask a question without giving your life story and being judged. it was a simple question if any one had experience banks reversing a claim. if or why store purchases where treated different than an atm0

So not a consumer rights issue then?
This thread may be better placed on the banking board.0

I simply asked how they got your PIN? Your version doesn't ring true. How did the card come to be in their hands? Are you saying you were robbed (that's what it is if it was on your person)?
How did you view the CCTV?0

            It’s theft not robbery.0
