Debit card stolen. possible to cancel store transactions?

hi. a couple of Sunday's ago I realised my card had been stolen from asda. 250 cash taken out the sat night. 250 cash the Sunday. then 1500 in various shops. I rang the bank the same day. they stopped the store transactions on my pending balance. and refunded the 500 cash pending investigation, they didn't need to refund the store purchases as they never had physically left my bank. the bank rang the next day. said it doesn't look like fraud and they would take the money back 27th. it is pending appeal.
my query is. on the 27th they took back.the 500 as expected. but the store transactions have never been took off. not even off my pending balance. does anyone know why? would they or could they cancel a pending store transaction if I said it was unauthorised? which if they can why would they when they're telling me it's not suspected fraud? then the store would be at a loss money wise even though merchants where took.
I wonder if it's because it's pending appeal. but the 500 has been took back.
has anyone had any experience with this?
I don't want to ring the bank. If I could I would rather just lose 500, rather than alerting them, and the appeal be rejected and lose 2000. I have even said about providing them with footage of who took my card from the store or the police (if I was able to get it), but they said it doesn't matter and they wouldn't use the cctv in making their decision anyway.
Thanks

If the card was stolen how were they able to get hold of your PIN to be able to withdraw cash and use it in the shops?. Due to the fact that your pin was used i doubt they will refund any of the money.
If the card was used in shops to to purchase goods with a PIN then they won't be cancelling the pending transactions and you won't be getting the money back. If they did decide it was fraud then the bank would simply give you the money back, the shops would still get the money they wouldn't loose out.0 -
Seems fishy, how did they know your PIN?0

Depends on the exact circumstances. Banks might try the argument that the pin being used is proof it was authorised/you were negligent but thats not always the case.
For example there have been recent warnings around here from the police to be extra careful in shops as crooks are shoulder surfing to get the PIN and then pickpocketing the card. Someone in that instance would likely not have been careless with their pin or card.
However someone who has written down their pin number and stored it with their card likely has been grossly negligent. But if overdrafts are involved it gets even more complicated because there are different rules involved where credit is concerned and even if you are grossly negligent, your liability is limited to the first £50.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
my card was stolen at the self check out. you can see on cctv someone stood behind me. which I didn't notice at the time as I had a baby n toddler with me. I'm not going into the whole situation of the cctv as that wasn't my question. shoulder surfing happens all the time apparently since I've been looking it up.
that wasn't my question anyway. I was wondering why would they only take back the atm refund back so far. why wouldn't the shop purchases be took off yet as well.0 -
I'm happy to go down the right channels. appeal. and where ever after that. but if im.only going to lose 500 id rather leave it than pushing it forward and maybe losing 2000. I just don't understand why it all wouldn't come out. and when will it0

If you've seen the CCTV then the police must be involved, have you given the bank your crime number?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
-
yes but the bank aren't interested. they said to go down the police route and claim the money through court. as I said that isn't my question regarding if the bank think it's fraud or not as I will just go.down the proper channels of appeal0

if someone was that close to me am pretty sure i'd notice, asda self service tills are quite spacious hope you get it sorted but i must confess it does sound quite suspect.0
-
not really. it was packed with being near xmas. and as I said I had a baby and a toddler having a tantrum with me so I was too busy and stressed focusing on them to see who was around me0

forever one saying it's susicous. you haven't seen the cctv. or know the full details as that wasn't my question. as I said I will go through the proper channels with that as I have already researched what to do. my question was regarding why they wouldn't take out the store purchases as well. why only part of it (the atm withdrawals)0
