We were going to have eight in total, including us, for Christmas dinner, but one person has cancelled so now seven. I'm very glad to say, no dogs and no kids (and not even our elderly cats this year as one has died and the other one has gone to live with our son

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
My mother had Dupuytrens, I don't think she had it very badly. She certainly didn't need surgery. I suppose she might have if she had lived longer, she died in her 70s.
Seven of us here today including 2 GC. Five more arriving on Boxing Day. I can't believe how much food has been eaten already, I had forgotten how much teenage eat.0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Hope you all had a lovely day and that you were spoilt rotten..
Most of my gifts were of the special posh cosmetics, toiletries and candles for " your swanky new bathroom" variety. Very happy with those. And then some further gifts to be chosen later.......trees for my new garden, sometime in the early spring.
Feeling tired today so just going to take it easy.
BTW. I have my new word for next year. :rotfl: all will be revealed in due course. In the meantime enjoy yourselves.
Eat, drink and be merry......:D0 -
Glad to read that you had a lovely Christmas with the family LL. Your gifts that you received sound ideal.A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Merry Xmas fabbers
I hope you all had a nice Xmas.
We had a nice enjoyable Xmas and the children really enjoyed their prezzies. I got some lovely gifts, too. I was given a bit of money for Xmas, which I have put away for now. Although I could probably find something to spend it on, I have a big birthday next Autumn and am saving up for a shopping spree.
I am back at work tomorrow. I dont mind as the commute/office will be quiet and I will be taking next week off, as the children will be off then.
What is everyones plans for new year?0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Can't sleep, got a serious case of brain whirl going on.......:rotfl:
I was going to host a party here on NYE but my son has decided they will do the honours.....easier with the baby. Fine by me. I shall then be hosting a new year lunch at some point for some of my girl friends but I was thinking towards the end of January when everything falls a bit flat. I have booked to see The Andr! Rieu new year concert cinema event for January 6th.
Yesterday I did my budget for January. A bit tight, especially as the MOT is due on the car but after that I should be able to start getting back into savings mode so I can replenish my war chest.
As you have gathered, I am already thinking and planning ahead for 2019. :rotfl: lots of plans and schemes bubbling away.
A few really frugal months to get me in good financial shape so no new clothes for 6 months, unless I spy some amazing charity shop bargains. I really don't need any clothes for now. I also have masses of toiletries, perfume, make up etc so no spending won't be a hardship. I will however be looking out for deals on paint, diy materials and trees and plants for the garden.
I have purchased a groupon voucher for salsa classes, £10, but as I had £9.30 in my PayPal account, I only paid £0.70. (SUgarbaby .....I'm learning from you :rotfl: saved over £35). Just hope my knee is ok with salsa.
Not sure about today. Next year will see me embark on a massive declutter - I might make a start and tackle a couple of cupboards today.0 -
Been pretty good about extra calories consumed over last few days.
So - one question re weight loss. I know the Slimming World group reckons it's an average 10 lb weight loss per clothing size one goes down. I gather people can go anywhere between 7lb and 2 stones to lose a dress size. Can I presume that "The smaller a person is then the lower the number of lbs they have to lose to go down a dress size"?
I'm thinking that it might be the case that, when someone is near to being their correct size again, that it only takes a small number of lbs lost to go down a dress size??
I'm hoping that might be the case - as I've got 4" to lose off each of my "vital statistics" now (ie that will be 2 dress sizes to go now) and wondering how many "lbs per dress size" it will be for me personally now I'm not far off my correct size again?
NB; If height makes any difference - I'm short (at 5'4").0 -
Money - I think it might be height that is a factor. A few pounds will make the difference between dress sizes for me (just under 6ft) but if you are shorter it may be necessary to lose something like 7 - 10lb. I've got more length to spread it over IYSWIMSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I lost over 20 lbs and only dropped a dress size, I'm 5'4". I suppose it can depend on where you lose it, I seemed to lose loads off my legs which look like pins, hardly anything off my bust.0
