They're ace, but I do have a weird crush on Jarvis :rotfl:

Do you like the lead singer from All American Rejects? He has the same type of look, but very handsome. IMO.:o:rotfl:

I remember the the song 2000 from when I was a teenager. 2000 seemed so far away at the time and now, 2000 still seems far away, but because it was so long ago.

I was saying that yesterday, 19 years ago! Almost now.
I have lost over three stone and have only gone down one dress size. Having said that, it has mostly all gone from my bum and tummy, so the baggy clothes I wore then that were tight are now loose and look much better. I was a size 20/22 on the bottom and 18 on the top (although I often had to get bigger sizes in tops to go over my tummy). I am now 18 on the bottom and 16 on top and I wore a nice fitted size 16 top the other day which I thought looked too small over the tummy but my husband said looked great :). So maybe I have lost two dress sizes from the bottom and one from the top .

I think sometimes when you have a lot of weight to lose it can be a matter of body image, you still tend to chose loose clothes because you think that's all you can wear.

Yes, it's weird when you lose weight as it comes off unevenly, well, for me anyway.

The scales say I still have only lost 17 pounds but when I put my bra on yesterday it felt looser.:D I will have to take my measurements again to see if I've lost any more inches.

Thanks Maman, time to make my return x
  • Just goes to show how variable clothes are (quite apart from the shops changing the sizing up a few years back) - as I'm feeling a bit positive about the fact I'm wearing a vanity size 12 jumper from Marks & Spencers (which I've not worn for some time). It's a size smaller in relation to me than it was when I bought it - but I've got to the "I don't think anyone else will notice it's too small" stage for it. But still waiting to get back into real size 14 jackets from Marks & Spencers.

Still - I'll take the jumper being wearable again (if not quite right yet) as a tiny smidgen more of Progress. Just as well - as I'm down to 7 jumpers in total at the moment (and 3 of them are due to be binned for being a bit "past it" and one of them due to be binned for being "too cheap really"). Having to hang onto the tatty's and the cheapo for a little bit longer yet...

Yes.....I'll be starting a new thread for 2019 if anyone is interested......

Got to keep going. Got to keep the fabulousity on track.:rotfl:

Didn't bother going shopping in the end. Still have enough in. Aiming to go tomorrow. Instead I went to see my friends husband who has been in hospital for over a week now. My friend had to attend a funeral so my elder son and I did the honours.

He is such a lovely man and when my husband got really sick he just sort of became a father figure and mentor to my boys. He has been very ill but thankfully he seems to be picking up again now.

Maman...thanks for the Cremant tip. I'll look out for that.

Nice quiet evening. Reading a good book called "Grown Up Glamour" by Caroline Cox. Lots of very good style tips.

Re volunteering. That's on my to do list too. I have an application form for Dr Barnardos - helping out in one of their shops. I could go back to Scope but parking is an absolute nightmare, Barnardos is easier for me.

I know there is always plenty of opportunities for helping at hospitals, but after spending so many years hanging round hospitals when my husband was sick, I just couldn't face it.

Many years ago I used to volunteer in our local Assembly Rooms, front of house. I loved it - got to see all the acts for free too :rotfl: unfortunately it is now closed but I would love to do that again somewhere. The other one I've considered is as a Natonal Trust tour guide.

I have one friend who helps out in a homeless shelter and another who fund raises for a battered womens refuge. I don't think I could manage either of those - I would want to take them all home with me. Same with animal rescue .....I would want to keep them all.

I noticed a volunteering thread had appeared over on the Over 50s board, maybe you might find some ideas there.

With your love of books, how about voluntary librarian or maybe helping out in school, unless of course you have to be connected to the school. I used to help out at schools all the while my children were growing up.

    Pawsecco......:rotfl::rotfl:

Intermittent Fasting works because the body doesn't go into starvation mode. As important, it gives a strategy for maintaining once the weight has been lost.

My appetite reduced quite quickly and I found it very easy to fast yesterday after two days of indulgence. I just had scrambled eggs on toast. About 400 cals.

I'm another fan of intermittent fasting, I find it the best way of helping me manage my blood sugar levels. As well as 5:2 I also find 16:8 works for me (you fast for 16 hours). Whenever I find my sugar levels creeping up, I go back onto 16:8 and it brings them back down pdq. It also helps my IBS by giving my digestive system time to rest.

Had to chuckle about your "weird crushes". I have to confess to finding nerds attractive too. I like men who are quirky and intelligent.
Jarvis Cocker was a Little young for me, even in 2000, but I can see the attraction. :D.

My sons are both nerdy......(although they are both lookers too). I once called the eldest a nerd and he corrected me saying "Geek if you please" - apparently geeks are cleverer and therefore more interesting and desirable than nerds.

    Who knew. :rotfl:

  • Glad I wasn't talking total nonsense about indulging a bit to boost the metabolism. I'm exhausted, had 18 month old GD last night and she didn't sleep, she has a virus, everyone has gone out so just DH GD and me and she doesn't seem keen on sleep tonight. I've been on the go all day so sitting here letting her eat biscuits, I'm sure a bit of granny indulgence won't do her any harm and I'm helping her so she won't eat them all. Granny's have to be selfless sometimes to help the little people.

I think come January 1st and everyone gone home I will collapse in a heap and sleep for a week.

I'm looking forward to a bit of shopping, I've got £250 in gift vouchers and I will enjoy a bit of indulgence for the new year.
