Hi all,
Welcome to fellow newbies, I have been reading this thread for years but only recently started posting.
I have mostly been keeping up with my yoga, if I miss one night I always do the next night but trying my best not to miss any as it always makes me feel better.
My mother-in-law has been staying with us since Thursday afternoon  and went home today. Baby pretty much stolen for most of the weekend but she was pretty well behaved most of the time. She even did the giant ironing pile for us. :j We did get the usual “The baby doesn’t recognise me” (he’s just coming up for 8 months old) and “I’ll be dead before he’s grown up” (She’s a very healthy & active 71yo). My DH’s parents live 300 miles+ away from us hence the now oft repeated refrains from MIL.
She also thinks I’m daft as I made a very mild dahl for DS and she kept worrying that it would be too spicy for him - it wasn’t & he really enjoyed it. He then had an explosive nappy later & she kept saying it was the dahl that caused it because it was too spicy. :rotfl: It wasn’t the dahl, he’s teething and it always causes nappy issues.
She was subtle as a sledgehammer as usual about the clutter in the house as well. I have to laugh or I would cry. :rotfl:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. At least the MIL is gone home now sashy.:D I can empathise with how you feel. My MIL used to comment when DD had a cold as if I was personally responsible for holding her under a bath of freezing water or something.
I've had my hair done today. Just a trim and a blow dry which I'm pleased with. I've made an appointment for 6 weeks time for highlights as well.
You're right sugarbaby about the prices in charity shops. They have got ridiculous. What gets to me is the prices they expect for worn out bits from Primark or supermarkets. I am prepared to pay a bit more for a label I like.
Thanks for the update on your cruise LL. Enjoy the Caribbean!
We've booked a March mini break today as a birthday treat for me. It's another split centre holiday like the one we did to Poland in November. We fly to Venice for 3 days then 3 days in Milan. I've never been to Milan and only visited Venice for a day trip when we were in Verona. So that's something to look forward to and to plan for.:)0 -
Hi all, and a big welcome to the new people :j
I'm sorry I've been MIA but I've pulled a muscle in my neck and been feeling decidedly unfab
Today I've made the effort though and had a bath, defuzz, put on a dress, make up and perfume, and I'm about to do my nailsI also put on body moisturiser after the bath which I haven't done in years. It was a really eye opener as I can see in the mirror that my tummy and thighs are too big, but rubbing my shoulders and the back of my neck made me realise how "doughy" I am there
I've started doing stretching exercises at home everyday and also begun my physio exercises again. I'm sure tummy is a bit smaller but I'm only show a 0.5 lb loss on the scale.
Isn't this dreary weather depressing? I can't wait for a bit of sunshine! Have a good day all0 -
I went to see The Brothers Size at The Young Vic last night. It was an absolutely brilliant play and the actors were superb. I would give it 10/10 and I highly recommend it to everyone
I wore a lined, gored, pull on black skirt with a long sleeved M & S Heatgen pink top with my M & S black wool coat with velvet cuffs and collar, my faux fur stole, my black leather gloves, my Clarks black leather gloves and I was carrying my Osprey black leather handbag with all my belongings in and my patent Playboy tote shopping bag. I wore perfume and layered it with the matching body powder and the body lotion, black mascara and clear nail polish.
Sashy you are doing a great job as a mother, trust your own judgement and your own instincts when it comes to your son.Your MIL does not mean any offence, she is just trying to offer advice from her own experience, but forgets that childcare practices constantly evolve and develop.
You are doing great with your Yoga, keep it up
Dandy-Candy I hope your pulled muscle in your neck is healing well.
Maman I hope you continue to be pleased with your recent haircut.0 -
Hi all,
Lots of diaries being deleted over on the debt free diary board just now due to trolls abusing the spam buttons.Such a shame as the diaries are a great source of support for many MSE’rs.
Managed to get some yoga done last night, more standing half-splits  but it was slightly easier this time, slightly.
Thanks maman yes nice to have the house to ourselves again. MIL adores DS but seems to fret over silly things & thinks we’re too laid back with him. My own mum does the fretting over silly things as well though. Funny how from some people saying we’re laid back with DS is a compliment & from others it’s a criticism.
Thanks sugarbaby I think MIL thinks I have no idea about babies/children & was really worried when we told her we were having a baby. I have a lot of younger cousins and 2 nephews & 4 nieces as well as friends with children so have always been surrounded by kids. I’m not as clueless as she thinks, although I will admit there is a lot I don’t know & am learning as I go.I know deep down MIL doesn’t mean to offend me but she is very blunt and will fixate on an idea and go on & on about it, for example the dahl causing an explosive nappy. She repeated herself several times about it to both DH & I, both together & apart! She also thought he was sick the following day because I’d given him some garlic bread.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the play last night, the theatre is somewhere I rarely go but probably would enjoy.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. You're sounding happier already sashy. I admire you being laid back about the baby. I've never been one to feel that just because you have a child then the whole universe revolves around them. We're still people in our own right.
On the child food question: It was interesting to watch how my French niece approached things. I remember her son when he was tiny having all sorts of strong cheeses and garlicky food. My own daughter always preferred sucking on a spring onion to a rusk! That being said, the French are also a bit health obsessed. Anyone who's travelled there will notice a pharmacy on every corner!
I agree it's a shame about the trolls removing diaries. some people are really upset about it. I hope it doesn't happen to this one but we can always start again. I don't think we should give in to trolls. I do hope mse are doing all they can to help.
I'm dancing again tonight so it'll be a dress or skirt. It's probably cold enough for opaque tights (I hate wearing ordinary ones) so that gives me plenty of choices. I have a number of patterned White Stuff skirts including a couple of velvet ones that I could choose from.
Glad you enjoyed the play sugarbaby. We're planning to go to the cinema again this week to see The Post. Is that one that you've seen?0 -
thank you I did it and Venicci has lovely reviews. I am going to see the pram next week at my local Venicci distributor
Can't wait to see it in real

Pleased that it was a help, hope that you like it when you see it in real life:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Hello all
I've been picking out my outfits and wearing a tiny bit of makeup for the last few days and I definitely feel better about myself
Love my new jeans so planning to buy another pair with the vouchers I have left. Outfit for tomorrow is the jeans, black pumps and a sparkly jumper. Because of the sparkles in the jumper, I won't need much jewellery so I've picked out a simple silver bracelet and ring to wear with it.
I've had a bit of a pamper evening tonight - lit a scented candle and put on a face mask and hair mask (all Christmas presents). I've also painted my nails, just with some clear varnish. I don't tend to wear nail polish other than night outs so only really have bright or glittery ones, may need to invest in some nude shades for day to day wear.
I'm off work at the weekend so I'm planning to look through my clothes and identity the worst offenders - anything that is far too big/unflattering will go to a charity shop. I'm also going to look through my jewellery - I have lots but tend to wear the same few items so hopefully seeing exactly what is there will encourage me to wear more of it.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Morning Sugar I aspire to your fun sounding life, great to hear you're having fun and dancing away - love it!
Hmmm, strange thing, I am nearly 50, menopausal , libido long deserted me and have been single for 6 glorious months after a long and horrid relationship, but suddenly I'm feeling perky and the idea of a 'gentleman friend' doesn't seem so out of the question. It may never happen and my bar is very high (oh, not looks wise or shallow things but kindness and an even temper would be essential) it's quite nice to feel open to possibilities, I suppose leaving my house would be a start!
Been low carb since Saturday and feel a bit 'boingier' already, need a haircut badly.
My confidence will never really return unless I can do something about my teeth but oh, the cost. I need much more than a scale and polish.
Have a good day all.0
