Hi everyone. Can I join in please? Promise I'm not stalking you 'LL :rotfl:
I used to be quite glam, always made up, hair dyed etc.Lately I have deffo let myself go a bit, as pain n depression has been dragging me down a lot, n just showering every day, n getting dressed are about all I can manage :(
Today I have put make up on, n am going to two charity shops on the way to see Mum .It's a posh little village, so the stuff is usually v good.
My roots really need doing, so I might slap a colour on later, whilst watching Strictly :D
Am hoping to renovate my bathroom n kitchen next year, so will be asking your advice 'LL.I'm not practical at all :rotfl:
    Have fab days everyone xx

Welcome candygirl.:) Perhaps we should start a new bathroom thread! :rotfl:

DH and I have been procrastinating over ours (and putting up with dripping shower) for months. We're almost decided on what we want to do but on the lookout for a decent plumber as ours has finally retired.

As a long time lurker on this thread I am disappointed that some newer members have started to bicker and take swipes at others. I'll just leave this here from Buddhist Boot Camp .......

In the same way we keep old birthday cards and souvenirs, bank statements and receipts, clothes, broken appliances, and old magazines, we also hang on to pride, anger, outdated opinions, and fears. And if we're so attached to tangible things, imagine how difficult letting go of opinions must be (let alone opening our minds to new ideas, perspectives, possibilities, and futures). It's dangerous for our beliefs to solidify enough to become the only truth and reality we know, it puts a greater distance between us and anyone whose beliefs are different. That's when we not only feel isolated, but struggle as if the whole world is against us. That's no way to live. I say loosen your white-knuckle grip on your truth being the only truth there is, just go ahead and live your truth instead of spending your life defending it or trying to crush someone else's. Does that make sense?

Not really. Either 'side' of the argument could expect the other to 'loosen their grip' on their beliefs. Mrs May is trying to effect a compromise but that's not helping either as both sides feel badly let down because of promises (many false) made in the past. Then we have self interest from career politicians muddying things even further. I really can't see that defending what I believe to be right (which incidentally is the way I live my day to day life) is something to be criticised.

In any event, although this thread may seem on the face of it to be about superficial things we've long talked about intellectual stimulation. I'd agree with you that we don't need 'bickering and taking swipes' but polite, informed discussion isn't a problem.

Although we are just as focused on the other B word...Bathrooms!:D

Hi Candy.....nice to see you over here. Yes you've had a rough time recently and it is hard sometimes to be upbeat when you are in constant pain. It's bound to drag you down.

Anyway .....don't ask me how but "fabbing" really does seem to work. It's a mystery. ;) I call it the "circle of virtue". We make an effort to look good and we feel better, because we feel better, we look good and so on, a self propelling circle of positivity and fabness. What's not to like. And, as none of us are blingstastically rich, we try and do it on a budget. :rotfl:

The wife of the fencing guy (she's helping him out) has just been in for a warm and a cup of coffee bless her. It's absolutely freezing out there. The wind has really got up. Apparently temperatures are really set to fall next week.

    Winter is definitely coming!!

I have got out my oils and I'm now going to make some potions.......

.Hubble, bubble..........Eye of newt etc. :rotfl:

I can't find my strapless bra.....I think I might have chucked it by mistake. So I'll need to have a hunt later. If i cant find it I will need to get a new one to wear with a couple of my evening dresses.

Got a nice homemade curry for tonight - on a tray in front of a nice fire, lit candles and half watching Strictly.

    Bring on that Hygge........

We had nine viewings booked for our flat, five turned up. We have offered the flat to a young woman who is moving from the top flat :) which she is sharing with a friend, she wants to live on her own. She is being referenced at the moment.

One applicant we didn't like at all, don't know why, just one of those 'gut' feelings, so we never were going to offer it to her. Another lot were too young (20/17 with a baby), we felt that there may be problems there in the future. Another were a pair of Doctors just about to start work at the local hospital, they also had a baby. Whilst these may seem like ideal tenants we decided against them in the end because we didn't think they would stay, as young hospital Drs often get moved round the country. The one we liked best other than the young woman we offered it to was a young guy moving with his wife and child from Derby to our area for work, we really took a shine to him, he was polite and courteous. We would have offered him the tenancy if the tailor-made one had not come along. She has lived in the upstairs flat for eighteen months so knows all about the area and the estate, and she works at a new Technology Park about a mile away.

So it was relatively painless in the end.

  • Hello Ladies,

I went to X Factor Karaoke in a local pub last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself for the budget sum of £2, which was the cost of a 500ml ice cold bottle of water. This was just the tonic that I needed. :D

My elder son and his 2 daughters paid me a surprise visit today which I really enjoyed even though they could not stay for longer than an hour and 30 minutes. My 2 granddaughters at 12 and 13 years of age are extremely tall for their ages and that fosters the idea that they are much older than their chronological years. They take after their Mum height wise but in most other aspects of their personalities they are their Father's daughters and they have really close bonds with their Father. :D:j

I am enjoying catching up with some Sky programmes and reading my latest Autobiographical book today now that I am alone. :D

I finally have a date for my Employment and Support Allowance Appeal. It is set to be heard in Court on the 7th December from 2pm. I have engaged the services of Fightback4Justice and hopefully they will advocate on my behalf at the Appeal, so that I have a much more realistic chance of winning my Appeal. I am articulate, even when I am nervous, but I do not have the expertise to do this Appeal on my own. They were instrumental in ensuring that my daughter won her ESA Appeal earlier this year, so I know how effective they can be at supporting Benefit claimants through the minefield of an DWP Appeal. :D

A Tesco customer service representative called me yesterday to say sorry about the exploding bottle of Shloer. As the 4 boxes of 40 washes of Ariel got saturated they agreed to refund the price of those 4 boxes of Ariel. I also have to go to a larger branch of Tesco locally and ask them to fill in the appropriate form to report the details of my complaint to the supplier. The supplier will then do an investigation and eventually get in touch with me. I am glad that Tesco replied to my complaint so promptly. :)

  • Good luck sugarbaby, I hope it goes well.

My youngest son is tall, he was off the chart as a newborn and was 6ft when he was 12. Such a pain as people do tend to assume they are older and it isn't always fair, I do remember at play group he would get told off for things that the "little ones" would get away with. I had to point out to the leader that several of the "little ones" were more than a year older than him. It worked out OK as he likes being tall even if it is a pain with clothes sometimes

SDW do you like doing the viewings? I've always got the agent to do ours as I think it would upset me to turn nice people away, particularly if they have children. When we let a house 4 years ago two couples were very keen and good prospects (regular jobs and good references) and both had young children, I was so glad I never met them, I worried about the ones who got turned down and it would have been worse if I'd met them. It might be different if there are lots of properties available but in our area there aren't many and both were pretty desperate because of the location.

LL will think we are all copying her maman and Candygirl, bathroom groupies! Seriously though I do think having a new bathroom will make me feel a bit more fab, my bathroom is shabby but not a wreck it is just very 80s and we've all moved on from the 80s haven't we.

Maman I agree we can't be expected to ignore the elephant in the room. My worries about medication is far to important to just dismiss, even the Health Secretary has admitted people might die if we have a no deal Brexit. If I can express my worries on that I'm afraid I won't be very fab, maybe I'll be dead this time next year and I'm not expecting that to be my best look.

We decided to do them ourselves this time and not employ an agent, other than OpenRent who do the advertising and referencing.

We did feel like you say, especially with the young couple, but they were living with his dad so it was not as though they had nowhere to go if they did not get our flat. I also felt sorry for our second choice tenant, a lovely young man, pleasant, polite, courteous, who was relocating from Derby with his wife and child, but he too had family in the area. The Doctors and their child I'm sure will have no problems finding a place.

We just knew we had to get our business heads on rather than the friendly grandparents one. This is our investment and is not social housing, we have to do what is best for us. From that point of view the young woman from the upstairs flat was the ideal choice.

  • Hello Ladies,

Candygirl, as I have more than one type of Arthritis, I am in varying levels of pain every day, but I do not let that prevent me from having a social life. Finances is the only thing that sometimes makes me pause and decide that I simply cannot afford to indulge myself. :)

The washing machine engineer turned up yesterday. He fitted the new lock interchange, but for some reason this then corrupted the computer board that all the programmes operate from, so now I have to wait for them to come back and fit that part before I will have a working washing machine. They could not even promise me the day they would be able to return. It is so frustrating. :(

I am going to Karaoke tonight where I can have fun with like minded friends. :D
  • Bring back the dolly tub.......like my grandma used to use for her washing.....a lot less faff. :rotfl:

Seriously though SUgarbaby. How frustrating for you.

Well the fencers need to come back today so that has stymied my plans for going out today. Never mind I've got enough to keep my occupied. I might try and sort out my holiday clothes later, although I've got a bit of a sore throat and a headache so don't feel like doing much.

Yesterday I made up some potions.....a body oil and a facial oil, using organic aromatherapy oils. Natures best, no nasty chemicals.

I recently set up an app to monitor my screen time.......it's still too much. So I won't be posting quite so often and I will try and keep my posts short but sweet.

I have managed to successfully reduce my time spent watching tv, so now i want to stop frittering too much time on the internet.

I need to be more productive. :rotfl:
