  • I wonder if I ought to be looking out for a nail buffer then??

At a fairly recent visit to a chiropodist I complained about how it's been much harder for a while to cut the nails on my big toes (as they seem to be harder and more brittle). He used some electric gadget and buffed them down - but didn't make a very good job of it. One of them now looks odd and it shows through nail varnish too (sorta like thick white ridges). I'm giving it a while - waiting for it to "grow out" and hoping it does so okay.

The plan is for them to "grow out" and then I try smearing on one of those creams with urea on those toenails in advance of cutting them - as I gather that makes them "normal" for cutting purposes.

Fingers crossed that they "grow out" okay - as my feet are one part of me that is still attractive and indeed the chiropodist complemented me on having good-looking feet. Well - they were till he mucked up the look of a couple of my toenails:cool:

    Good morning lovely ladies....

Here we are another weekend. Where does the time go.

And I have a to do list as long as my arm. :rotfl:

Now that I am a widow I find I like to ignore weekends (unless I have anything special planned). I do find that weekends seem to be geared up for couples and families and I can end up feeling a bit melancholy so I prefer to remain home and "get stuff done". :rotfl: at least for the time being. Widowhood is definitely getting easier. "They" are right......time really is the best healer. And keeping busy helps.

Had to have a bit of a spends day yesterday. Both my electric blanket and my oil filled radiator decided to die and, as my bedroom can be an ice box, I decided I really had to replace both. Hey ho. I also bought some fleece to line some curtains for the bedroom. I will be warm and cosy........ I refuse to freeze. Since putting the winter weight duvet on the bed I am sleeping much better.

On my to do list today is to do some batch cooking.

I also need to sort out my holiday clothes. 3 weeks today. I need to get a wiggle on.

Bad news....no weight loss this week. Good news.....blood sugar levels are improving and that's what really counts.

    Right time to get cracking.

    Have a great weekend. X
  • Hello Everyone

Managed to lock myself out of the site and couldn't read or post. Don't ask! The nice Administrator fixed it for me.

Himself and I are feeling a bit rubbish. Nothing serious. Just off colour. So I'm not really feeling or looking very fab at the moment. The weather is awful so I think it'll be another day indoors.

Anyway, just popped in to say hello.

    Have a good weekend.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

I sometimes think that the mechanics of the forum are a law unto themselves TF. Glad that the administrator could help you.:)

Sorry to hear you're a bit under the weather. 'There's a lot of it about' to coin a phrase. Get well soon.:)

Fingers crossed that they "grow out" okay - as my feet are one part of me that is still attractive and indeed the chiropodist complemented me on having good-looking feet. Well - they were till he mucked up the look of a couple of my toenails:cool:

It's a slow process as toenails take longer but well worth it money. Sorting out my feet was one of my fabbing projects. I'd had a fungal infection of nails and flakey skin for years and despite numerous attempts at creams both from GP and OTC, nothing helped. In the end I pushed my GP and got a referral to dermatology. They gave me an oral antibiotic and skin cleared up like magic! Nails took a bit longer but all sorted now. That's why I have regular (if expensive:() podiatry appointments. I'm not going back to feet I want to hide.:)
Bad news....no weight loss this week. Good news.....blood sugar levels are improving and that's what really counts.

Good news about the blood sugar. With weightloss, it's not always a linear thing. Sometimes, even when you've had a really good week in terms of eating/drinking it doesn't show on the scales. But it will, maybe next week you'll get a good loss to make up. Don't let it dishearten you.:) Conversely if you know you've had too many treats......:rotfl:

I know what you mean about weekends but I often stay at home. It's different if you only have weekends free but I'd much sooner go during the week when it's quieter.

I'd never be without my electric blanket LL.:) I like a cool room and a window open but I like a warm bed. :)

I've had my shower and done all my slathering (including feet;)). I've gone back today to adding a little fake tan to my body lotion for my arms. I know that next moth I have a couple of occasions coming up for sleeveless dresses so I don't want to look pasty.

Interesting comments from the WI this week along the 'make do and mend' theme.

I need to have a sort through my wardrobe. There are a very few things I need but I'm sure there's a lot I could recycle or donate. Maybe this afternoon?:)

Maman Thanks for the link. Interesting article. Yes we do need to reduce consumption.....well at least I do. :o. I am afraid I'm one of the ones who have probably bought more than 60 items of clothing this year.

Guilty as charged, M'Lud. In my defence a lot of my purchases were from charity shops, so maybe not quite as bad as it sounds. But I definitely intend to buy less next year and work through my stash.

I didn't realise you could sign up to the Times for some free articles, so thanks for that. I've done that.

One of My little luxuries always used to be The Sunday Times, but not only has the price gone up rather a lot but also there is less content these days. So instead of every week I just buy it now and again.

Just having a break. I've got killer backache today so having to pace myself. I have made a huge casserole which is bubbling away and a large pot of spicy red cabbage and apple. There's still half a red cabbage left so I'll do another batch tomorrow. The kitchen smells lovely. I also have a bag of apples to cook down. I have really enjoyed my cooking session this morning.

Right time to tackle some ironing......

TF. Hope you feel better soon. Enjoy your nice easy day.

Well done on the batch cooking. Braised red cabbage is one of the things I batch cook and freeze in portions too. DH cooks down apples to make a compote that he has on his muesli, again frozen in portions.

We have the Times delivered but I agree about the Sunday edition, it's really gone downhill. If you were to buy it at the weekend, I'd choose Saturday, plenty to read in that. It's hard to choose a newspaper, so many of them are like comics and incredibly biased. The Times is biased too but it is mostly well written and their journalists do have some integrity rather than just supporting the party line.

Instead of the promised wardrobe review I've ended up doing paperwork. There are a few committees I'm on (gradually extricating myself) and I had minutes to type up. DH and I also had a really good cull of other papers this week, mainly financial. So progress is being made.:)

    Good morning lovely ladies

Thanks for the Saturday Times tip Maman I will try it. I do like old fashioned newsprint. I do read newspapers online sometimes but somehow it's not the same.

Had a really good day yesterday, very productive, got a lot done but unfortunately not the ironing. Maybe today. I ended up giving myself a bit of a pamper whilst watching the last Killing Eve. Great series but left on a cliffhanger so clearly they plan to drag it out into another series. I won't bother. Life's too short. :rotfl:

I am actually deliberately reducing both TV time and computer time. You can have too much of a good thing. :D. I think reducing screen time is helping me sleep better. A full 8 hours last night. Bliss.

Anyway gave myself a nice pedicure. I have upped the slathering to two Or 3 times a day and my skin is feeling much better. When I have a bath again I will be able to add oatmeal to the water. I find that very soothing. I will buy some Aveeno (contains oatmeal) this week, expensive but it helps. I am also going to make up some of my own body oil today.

No more SLS's in bath and body products for me ever, even if I have to make my own. My skin just can't seem to tolerate them now. I think I also need to look for a more gentle soap powder and maybe hand wash more.

Right time to start the day.

    Have a great day.

I did manage to start my wardrobe review after all yesterday. Pleasingly very little went in the CS bag. Everything I tried on fitted although the size 10s are a little snug. I'm currently about 3lbs heavier than I like to be so I'm motivated to do something about it and feel comfortable in my smallest clothes.:)

I went through my two wardrobes. In the guest room one I keep my dresses, coats and evening wear. I definitely need to go into that wardrobe more often as I can wear the dresses for dancing instead of always wearing skirts. I've also got a number of evening skirts, long and floaty. I've worn the green, silky pleated one with a chunky sweater and it's a look I like. I could wear some of the others if I had a suitable jumper, preferably grey. So I'll be on the look out for one. I could also do with a decent black top.

I've still to go through my drawers of jumpers and tops but since I did MK on them, they're really easy to go through.:)

Quiet day today. Listen to my team on the radio. It's painful.:( Will make us a nice meal for dinner to cheer us up.:D

Thanks pollypenny . It's also got the benefit of getting more wear from 'evening' skirts. :)
