Good morning lovely ladies.
Interesting about the flax seed. I'll give it a go.
Bright and sunny here but cold. It was white over first thing. I do like these bright crisp winter days, blue skies and bright sunshine, far better than dismal, damp "driech" days.
I was up early, did some painting, then had a shower and a nice bit of pampering and some serious slathering. Yesterday did some painting and then had a good paperwork sort out. I now have all the final figures to hand and I'm getting a clearer picture of my new monthly budget.....some winners and some losers.
As I mentioned the heating bills are going to be very high so I might up my monthly dd for that. I refuse to worry because I simply cannot stand the cold, it makes my fibro so much worse. I'll just cut back somewhere else. Actually I could be a bit more frugal in the kitchen, my food bill has been creeping up so I need to sort that out. And I really don't need any more clothes.....:rotfl: having said that I have just ordered some thermal slippers. But they are definitely a need rather than a want.
The floors here are freezing but I'm not putting the new rugs down in the kitchen and dining room till the plumber has put the new heating system in. It will be a messy job and I don't want them wrecked. He's very careful but there's bound to be a lot of brick and plaster dust.
In the meantime I can make do with some old carpet offcuts I found in a cupboard. I can put those down on Friday after the handyman has replastered the wall. They will tide me over for now.
More painting later. DS2 coming round for brunch so he'll help me tackle a couple of jobs I can't manage on my own.
Making good steady progress.
Right coffee break over, back to work.
Have a great day.0 -
So pleased you managed to get off to Birmingham at the weekend sugarbaby. It takes a lot to stop you!:)
We're still enjoying glorious autumn weather here too although much nippier. DH and I managed a nice walk on the waterfront yesterday. It was more of an amble looking at things than exercise but at least it was fresh air. Like you, LL I don't believe in being cold indoors but heating can get a bit stale and overpowering so it's good to get out.
I've had my shower and plenty of slathering too. I do try to keep it up through the winter although it's tempting not to bother when legs, feet and arms are hidden.:o
I've been thinking a bit more about the shalwar khameez humpty. From what you've said, it would be nice to buy myself some out in India as a practical souvenir.I like to do that. I avoid the 'Present from Blackpool' type things but try to buy myself something I'll use to remind me of a holiday. Recently, I've bought a number of herbs and spices from local supermarkets when I've been away. I've got a stock of paprika from Budapest and herbs from Italy. The latter are only from Lidl but the 'foreign' labels give me pleasure. We've often had self catering holidays across Europe and I've enjoyed browsing the supermarkets to see what locals buy that's different from here.
Strange you should mention being more frugal on food purchases LL. I've heard people complain that healthy eating can be expensive. I think that can be true if what you'd normally eat is the cheapest of ready meals but if you have the time and some skills to cook from scratch then it can be very mse.:money:Having some veggie meals and smaller meat portions is good too. I've always done meal planning as I think it saves time as well as money but I think it's essential for healthy eating.
Nothing exciting happening here today, just ironing.:(0 -
maman they do make a nice practical souvenir, DD still wears her when lounging about. She bought them really cheaply in a market and brought a couple back for friends.
When DD was little she used to have dancing lessons, when there was a show we would very often go to the Indian shops to get a saree which would make a costume for several little girls. They were really good value compared to going to the average dressmaking shop and they were such vibrant colours.0 -
Good Evening Lovely Ladies
SUgarbaby......Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better and that you managed your weekend away.
Well I've had a really good day, very productive. Did quite a bit of painting but started to run out of paint so nipped out to buy more. Popped into a couple of charity shops. They were selling off the last of their summerweight clothing. I picked up 6 tops - fab for my holiday - for £11, so definitely passing the cup of coffee challenge. :rotfl:
Massage this afternoon, now feeling relaxed and quite sleepy, so a nice early night I think. I have put my winterweight duvet and electric blanket on my bed so lovely and cosy. I've bought some logs to have a go with the open fireplace. It is years since I built a fire.:rotfl: might be interesting.
I am still undecided whether or not to go for multi fuel stoves in both Fireplaces or keep one as gas. So I thought I would practice with building open fires to see how I get on.
Maman. I have reduced the amount of meat I eat and now have lots more vegetables. I really need to do a bit more batch cooking I think so that I can have some home made "ready meals" for when I'm busy or tired or just cba. Save both time and money. I love browsing round food shops and markets when I travel. I always bring spices back, as well as local liqueurs and syrups.0 -

I would highly recommend looking at the solid fuel stoves. There is a lot of faff with instillation but omg the total saving with it. i had a shove in an old house and you could heat the place on a few lumps of coal or wood. so energy efficient and less mess than the open fires. i am looking to get one in but alas in September the waiting list was till summer with the good dude.
I went to the local charity shop and got a few nice pieces. i was glad as sometimes its good to get new in and well the money goes to good causes. it eases my guilt.
I have been trying to eat more vegan inspired meals. Far from vegan will i ever be but i love bean and veg based meals to increase the fiber and . antioxidants. For me there is something joyful and peaceful for having a stocked pantry to allow freedom from the daily trips to the store that cosr about 30 a go... for what i ask. But having times of leanness in the a stored pantry makes it easier to continuously better decisions0 -
Hello Ladies,
I am still suffering with cold symptoms which is a real nuisance.
I went to Karoke last night and I sang 5 songs:
1. You Were Always On MY Mind by Elvis
2. It's Now or Never by Elvis
3. Fever by Peggy Lee
4. Make You Feel My Love by Adele
5. Hurt So Good by Susan Cadogan
I had a really enjoyable evening despite having such a sore throat which has made my talking voice raspy, but thankfully it did not affect my singing voice.0 -
Hope you feel better soon sugarbaby, I had my flu jab on Saturday and have been feeling rotten since Sunday, very swollen arm that is red hot. I've never had a reaction before so this has taken me by surprise. I think we just need to be kind to ourselves.0

Great song choices there SUgarbaby.
Well I have finished painting the dresser and have just painted my nails ready to go to a Halloween party tonight.
Time for a cuppa and then decide what to wear...I am not wearing fancy dress as such but I did buy a red sequinned devils horn headband. Maybe jeans and my dark silver grey sequinned jacket.....suitably gothic rock chic. :rotfl:
hope You feel better soon, Humpty.0 -

I was wondering whether flu "injections" are still being given to some people that way - ie via a needle jabbed into the arm.
During the last week I was watching a tv programme and it featured young children at a primary school being given flu "injections" and theirs were given by pumping it up a gadget inserted into their nose. No needle at all and the method clearly didnt bother them a bit.
Therefore if they are getting it this way - then there is absolutely no need for anyone to get it via needles shoved into arms any longer.
EDIT; I just googled "flu vaccine children" and info. comes up about this - and Google shows a photo of what I mean.
An article that came up is:
https://www.webmd.com/children/vaccines/flu-shot-nasal-spray#1
and it includes the sentence "For adults, doctors found that the nasal spray works just as well as the flu shot". Useful for people to print it off if they intend to have the vaccine - to show any doctor that might try to say that that method is "only suitable for children" when probably what they really mean is "It costs all of 20p more to do it that way - and so I'll lie and tell adults it doesnt work for them".....0 -

Last year when I had my flu jab, the site was red and swollen for weeks! Been OK this year though.
Hope you feel better soon.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
