"Last resort I will be using my Irish passport and sorting it out there. "
At least it is an option, a fair amount of medicines, devices and generic medicine made locally in Ireland so it will reduce the impact somewhat. Please don't worry there will be national back up plans. Ask your doctor for an additional prescription if they are amicable.0 -
Good morning lovely ladies.
Well I slept like a babe.....a good 8 hours again. And I feel great. It's amazing the difference a good nights sleep can make,
I finally managed to get all the bulbs in the garden yesterday, hyacinths and tulips so hopefully it should look pretty in the spring. Give a bit of colour whilst the more permanent planting has chance to mature. I also found one of the hydrangeas I had in a pot which I thought was dead was sprouting new growth so that's gone in too. The shrubs and trees I planted look ok but I won't know for sure if they are going to thrive till the spring so I'll just have to be patient.
I read somewhere a quote about love. It said that planting trees that perhaps you might not see reach maturity and that only future generations would see in all their glory was a definition of love, hope and optimism. It was a stake in the future.
I think it probably referred to the great estates that were planted by the landed gentry - those great avenues of limes and oaks take decades to mature - but I think the same can be applied to we lesser mortals, we can still do our bit and plant for future generations to enjoy.
Anyway I shall carry on planting trees...and hope for the best.. The U.K. is now one of the most least wooded countries in Europe. We actually need all the trees we can get. As well as being lovely to look at they increase oxygen in the atmosphere and improve air quality. Same with houseplants.
Anyway it's part of my Ikigai. :rotfl:
I also removed about 10 lots of cat poo. I don't have a cat. :rotfl:
Well I'm off to acupuncture later and also getting my hair cut this afternoon.
Did anyone watch that programme, can't remember what it was called but where they conducted a three month experiment where they introduced a scheme to socialise 4 year olds with the residents of a nursing home.
They did it in a very scientific manner, measuring the health, mobility and cognitive skills of the elderly and the developmental and social skills of the children, both at the beginning and the end of the experiment.
Quelle surprise (not) - there was a marked improvement in all areas at both ends of the age spectrum.
The children grew in confidence and those who had speech, emotional and behavioural problems all showed marked improvements whilst the results with the elderly were nothing short of astonishing. They were fitter, stronger, more mobile, better balance, improved memories, less depression. The nursing home was in Nottingham.
I do hope the powers that be take note of this. Apart from the better quality of life for the residents and the better educational chances for the children just think of the savings for the NHS. Fewer drugs, fewer falls and broken bones.
Anyway enough of my prattle. Time to start the day.0 -
Hello Ladies,
Humpty stay strong. All bouts of depression eventually ease off and you will then start to feel like your more usual self. It is always best to stay as active as humanly possible as this really helps each individual not to focus only on how awful their depression is making them feel, but on their own everyday small achievements. Take each day as it comes and try to get through it as best as you are able.
I am having a really rough time with my Arthritis at the moment. My legs are really painful and the extreme pain is preventing me from walking straight and upright and I am shuffling more than lifting each leg and taking a step as normal. It is so frustrating as I am forced to cancel any social plans until the pain goes away. I am taking painkillers all day and night, having long soaks in the bath with generous amounts of Epsom Salts and keeping my legs up on my sofa but I need to continue until the pain is bearable or has finally gone.
So no Karaoke for me tonight and I have had to cancel my trip to the theatre tomorrow.0 -

I have asked about an extra prescription. Apparently they aren't supposed to do it or being advised not to or something. Not sure if that is a local thing. I suppose it would put next years med on this year's budget?0 -
sugarbaby so sorry to hear you are having to cancel fun stuff. Hope you feel better soon.0

Good morning Lovely Ladies.
SUgarbaby.......so,sorry to hear that you are struggling again. That's the nature of the beast that is arthritis....(and similar conditions). Some good days, some bad, flare ups can be a real problem. Hope you feel better soon, all you can really do is exactly what you are doing.
Well it's raining here - cue knee and fibro pain. If I had a bath I would have a nice long soak this morning but I don't so I can't. :rotfl: Looking on the positive side the garden needs some rain. It has been very dry here so the new plants will benefit from a nice long drink.
I am pleased with my new haircut. It's back to a Judy Dench style pixie cut. Well actually, not quite so short. More like Sharon Stones length. There's a woman who always dresses well.
Nice easy day today, more bathroom showrooms and then lunch with my youngest son. He will be the chauffeur...... I can just sit back and enjoy. Luxury.:rotfl:0 -
Hope you're feeling a bit more mobile today sugarbaby.:)
Glad you're pleased with your hair LL. My fringe is just getting a bit long so I need to make an appointment. Enjoy your lunch.:)
It's a typical autumn day here. The rain is coming and going interspersed with sunny periods. It's mild and just windy enough for the leaves to swirl around. Other years this would have depressed me but I think this year because we had a proper summer and a mild early autumn it feels justified.:)
I went into the city centre briefly yesterday. I returned the silver sneakers to TKMaxx, decided they were too heavy. That's heavy and clumsy to look at rather than in weight. I did buy a cheap pair of Skecher type shoes from Shuropody (Scholl as was). They had various sale items so I bought some navy Mary Janes. If I get a fraction of the wear from the that I've had from my black ones I'll be delighted. They're very similar to these.

It's a weird shop. I go there for my podiatrist appointments and they have been trying hard in recent years to cater for other than the elderly. So they have a few pairs of nice things and lots of hideous stuff.:(
On a similar subject I notice that M&S sales are down again although ironically profits are up. Presumably that means fewer staff and higher prices!;) I heard an 'expert' on the radio offering an explanation that their older customers that they catered for were dying off and they'd failed to attract new ones except for minor purchases. I'd say that many of their 'old' customers (me included) are still alive and kicking but choosing to shop elsewhere because we don't want to dress like our grandparents!:D They just don't get it.
I also got the grey jumper I wanted and a black lace body suit from New Look. I'll definitely keep the jumper even if it's to add to house clothes for colder weather. The body suit feels great but not sure how much I'd wear it.

I probably need a thermal one!:D
Dancing again tonight. I wore a dress and tights last night for the first time. Thinking of a long skirt tonight.
Have a good day everyone.:)0 -
Hello Ladies,
Thank you for your good wishes with regards to my health. I am still taking it easy.
My right leg is now bearable, but my left leg is still giving me extreme pain.
I am having my flu jab this afternoon as my bad cold symptoms have gone and I want to be protected from any more bad colds or a bout of flu. Today is the first day I am leaving my home since Saturday as I can now walk upright even though the pain in my left leg prevents me from walking in an elegant manner. :rotfl:0 -
Good idea to have the flu jab sugarbaby even if you have to limp to the surgery to get it. Poor you.:(
Another lovely autumn day here. I went for my weekly walk with friends this morning (we do a brisk hour around local parkland) and then sat and had coffee in the sun. There won't be too many more opportunities so making the most.:)
I dug another dress out last night to wear to dancing. That's 2 outfits I'd forgotten about until I reviewed my wardrobe. Rain is promised for this weekend so if I've got time indoors I'll go through drawers and see if there's anything there that needs dumping. I suspect very little other than perhaps some tops. If I didn't wear them this summer I probably never will!:D
Strangely, although it's over two weeks since I had the shellac removed, my nails don't seem to have grown much. When they're painted, regrowth is obvious but there doesn't seem to be much.I suppose its because I've been filing them more often.
I've got a meeting to attend later. I want to feel confident as it's a tricky situation so I will make an effort to look fab. I might wear one of my new found dresses again!:D0 -
My arm is better, I'm still feeling a bit rotten but keeping busy and GC have come to stay so that has brightened things up. We went out for lunch today, I was amazed how busy it was, we got the last table. This time of year is normally quiet but it seems as busy as the summer which seems odd. The sea was really rough at high tide and coming over the sea wall. I love sitting watching it when it is like that but I feel a bit guilty as if my gran was alive she would say, "Lord protect those at sea tonight." I do feel sorry for the sailors and fishermen but I can't help feeling it is an amazing spectacle to watch.
I've gone back to normal eating, after over 2 weeks of stuffing myself to try and put some weight on I weighed myself today and I've gained nothing except for a disturbed digestive system. My doctor is just going to have to accept that I am this weight now.0
