The Compers Inn (part 48)

  • How do seasoned compers cope with the feeling of being disheartened after entering thousands of comps without winning any? I call it Comper's Despair. If you are the type who gets demoralised after not winning anything for a long time, does that mean you shouldn't really be comping?

Must admit I do get disheartened sometimes as a few years ago I used to win something half decent at least once a week and nowadays it is more like once a month. I like to have a chat with other compers though and have made some lovely friends, even some I meet in the "real world"
I think you have to look at it as a hobby and a win is the icing on the cake :D

Evening Firefly. Just been trying to catch up with a few comps I seem to be slower every day.

Today I sent a very short email to Emerald Street thanking them for the screening on Saturday. I had an amazing reply the organiser said it had made the team smile to hear we had enjoyed it. She asked could she quote my two or three sentences to their promoters. From her reaction don!!!8217;t think many people respond or say thank you.

    Evening everyone xx
Well done on the wins and lovely to see some great wins! That product of the year looks amazing Sheils!

That's interesting reading Alfie about the polio and lookingat those pics, how times have changed!

I think I need a new iPad now, this one won't let me put numbers or imojis on for some reason. It must be on its way out. Still, it was a win from a few years ago too!
I had a lovely Mother's Day yesterday too, son made a gorgeous meal for me of jacket spud with hunters chicken and salad then millionaire cheesecake and ice cream for after!
It's done nothing but rain here today and it's cold so maybe more snow on way.
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

Been really lucky with the weather here and the sun is out again. Think we are due to get some rain tomorrow though. Was tempted to have a night away in the Lakes again but the weather looked so much better here we stayed put.
Hope everyone gets better weather soon.

Hope you managed to get up to date FF.

Sounds like you will have a busy Easter leanfun and Alfie. We nearly always have quiet holiday times as the family are usually working.
Sounds like middle of May will be busy for us though.

Saw your meal on FB wingo, looked lovely. I am trying to stop my kids buying me stuff and just cook nice meals when they come as I don't need anything and do love my food! (All 4 can cook)

Have a lovely day all and good luck.

    :hello: Good morning everyone

Hope you're all ok - it's looking to be another decent weather
    day here

    smileys-sunbathing-447880.gif

but apparently we could all be in for another brrrrr snap
    in a few days time!

I've only ever seen photos of iron lungs sheils, have not seen
them in rl - it doesn't bear thinking about - those poor
people. However having said that they did manage - just
referred back to the link because I remembered reading
    about an American lady:

One such person was Dr Martha Mason (1937-2009), of Lattimore,
North Carolina, who spent 61 years in an iron lung, from the time
she contradicted polio at age of 11, until her death. Unbelievable
as it may seem, Dr Mason lived a full and rewarding life despite
her iron encasement; indeed, precisely because of her limitations,
she developed a rich life of mind, earning a bachelor’s degree in
English and an honorary doctorate. She was intelligent and erudite
and insatiably curious about life. She loved and learned and grew
as person, and was excellent company for her friends and
academic peers who were devoted to her. She wrote a book about
her life called: Breath: Life in the Rhythm of an Iron Lung, which is
as fascinating as it is inspiring.

What an incredible and inspirational person. :A :T

I bet you're really looking forward to seeing your DS1 and
his girlfriend when they come over from Australia to visit
    in May. :T :D

 Hi bluehydrangeas - I'm actually from the era of tie-
breaker comps (back in the day :p) which I loved. I used to
regularly win wonderful prizes such as cash/holidays abroad
etc, the list goes on & on - I've kept all the winning letters to
    reminisce. :p :rotfl::rotfl:

I barely win anything now, not for the want of trying
though. :D But I'm a 'my glass is half full' type of person -
    always optimistic. :j

I wouldn't let the lack of winning make you feel
demoralised - your winning time will come. :D

Think the best bit of advice I can give you is to carry on
entering but don't ever dwell. There'll be thousands out
there thinking the same as you. Just move on to the next
comp. Or maybe take a small break away from comping
for a while to rejuvinate - & come back with renewed
enthusiasm & raring to go. IFSWIM. :p

I used to find the same as you leanfun re thanking the
promoters/organisers re winning comps. Like you I
always used to send a thank you letter or call to thank
them but sadly there may be a few who let us compers
    down.

Hi! Lovely to 'see' you wingo. Your Mother's Day
meal sounds scrumptious! Sorry to hear that your
iPad is on the blink - we were just talking about iPads in
here the other day - brilliant when they're working but
a right pain in the whatsit when they start playing up!

Well I've waffled on enough :p must get on, got things
    to do.

Have a lovely and lucky day all and please take care
    whatever your plans.

    Morning,
Gosh it has been quiet in here. Hope everyone is ok.
Our lovely sunshine has vanished :(
Had some bad news yesterday, my 52yr old cousin died. It was expected as she had lung cancer which spread . It still seemed a shock, the first of that family generation dying. Her father died of the same threee years ago.
Anyway on a lighter note DD came for dinner last night, straight from her placement. A few hours later when her bf finished work she asked him when he was coming up to collect her, completely forgetting the car was parked outside our gate! :rotfl:
So it isn't just us "oldies" who forget things.:D
Hope everyone has a lovely, lucky day.

    Sunny morning here so far

Shells sorry to hear your news. That is a very bad illness and she was still young. Feel of her mother and your family. Its hard when its your generation. (hugs).

Just been reading about Steven Hawkins dying. Someone whos life expectancy was two years but lived for over 50.
Alfie one of the articles said its pi day today 3.14.... and that is was Einstein s Birthday.

I am back on the lap top this morning and as its Portuguese and can not find the apostrophe have some missing here. Yesterday I was going around in circles as could not remember new password for the forum on here or iPad.

We have been having major problems with our landline. Yesterday we had an engineer call only for it to work perfectly. I phoned a friend in afternoon then it was gone again. It only rings once when someone calls and you have to call them back and the noise on the line is terrible and you can hear someone else talking in the background. We replaced phone now need to go through whole process again.

Shells lo to your daughter forgetting car was outside.

    Take care everyone.
